BACKGROUND

Introduce your business and what you do there.

I’m the head of the marketing department at Boston-based real estate and private equity firm. While most of our properties are in Boston, we have a national portfolio.

My focus is specifically on our internal communication and our external branding of our client’s properties.

What challenge were you trying to address with Proportion? 

We’ve used them on several projects.

What was the scope of their involvement?

In general, they’ve provided creative expertise on our residential and office projects, creating a brand identity for the market.

What is the team composition?

I typically work with 3–4 people from Proportion, including Blake (Founder & President), Paul (Creative Director), and Meghan (Account Representative), as well as some other junior graphical resources.

How did you come to work with Proportion?

I inherited them from the person who was in my role previously. After interviewing Proportion for myself — because I had my own agencies I worked with — I continued to work with them because they had an impressive portfolio.

How much have you invested with them?

We’ve spent around $200,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

I’ve been working with them since February 2019.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

There aren’t really any metrics, as the work is branding-based, but anecdotally I can say that everyone has responded very positively about the creativity of the work. They’re also very organized and collaborative.

How did Proportion perform from a project management standpoint?

They’re always on time and clear with next steps and deliverables. We communication over email and phone calls.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They’re a small team but also are much more collaborative than the other regional players in Boston. Blake and Paul lead our team, whereas you would deal with more junior people at another agency. This wouldn’t be bad here either, as Proportion’s junior resources are very good. It’s also nice to riff off with the founders directly, however. Because they’re directly involved, the level of work quality is very high.

Are there any areas they could improve?

They could grow their team a bit more, as sometimes items can take a bit longer than I would like. Their smaller size is also a plus, however. They could certainly expand their capabilities into other areas of digital marketing and advertising to become a full-service shop.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Don’t come to the table with lots of preconceived notions about what you want. Give Proportion a problem and let them solve it with their creativity. Their best work is done when they’re given the room and space to present their ideas.
