I hired Prodigium to handle all aspects of production for this project, which included scheduling talent, hiring of all crew, props/art department, location video production services, and catering for crew meals.

Due to Prodigium's diligent, hard work we actually finished shooting an hour earlier than we had budgeted, the entire day went as smoothly on set as one could possibly have hoped for. The client was extremely pleased with the quality of the work.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

They come from a feature film background in LA, so their knowledge of how to run a production day is very high and was the best I've seen in my 25-year career. Every single detail was effectively addressed, and what was a hectic production day, with 6 different talents/set-ups ended an hour earlier than I had budgeted, when we finished, I couldn't believe it came together as well as it did.

Are there any areas for improvement or something Prodigium Pictures could have done differently?

I honestly couldn't think of one thing they could've done better.

We needed someone to provide us with video production services.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Prodigium Pictures produced marketing, quickstart, and animation videos for our company. They managed all aspects that go into the video production process, such as writing the scripts, identifying the shoot locations, finding actors and voice actors, and handling post-production.

Our creative process started off with a brainstorming session, followed by resource management where we discuss the needs of the production. We then finalized the shoot schedules and once that was settled, we proceed with the actual video shoot. After that, they go into the studio and proceed to edit, cut, and animate the clips for the final product.

We came across Prodigium Pictures through a referral.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

One of the best metrics I can share is one of the videos they produced led to a successful Kickstarter campaign. Feedback from viewers has also been generally positive, citing the professional quality and concise messaging.

Thanks to them, we were able to influence others and reach our objectives easily.

They had a professional approach to project management and I was able to learn a lot from their production process.

We mainly interacted through Facebook Messenger and managed everything through Google Sheets.

We were very impressed with their attention to detail, budgeting abilities, accountability, and focus.

They were really helpful throughout the partnership so I can’t really think of any suggestions to further improve their process.

I would advise you not to shy away from expressing your goals and what the project would look like. Prodigium Pictures is made up of talented individuals who can take any type of media project to produce great output.

I’m the CEO and co-founder of Ava, a live-captioning company that provides deaf or hard of hearing people AI and human-based captioning services to follow conversations and meetings at school or work.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with Prodigium Pictures?

We were launching an app that transcribes group conversations and captions them, and we wanted to do press. We had one-and-a-half months before the launch, and we hired Prodigium Pictures to create a video that would tell the story of our company and our product.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

First, we had two introduction sessions with Prodigium Pictures to explain what we wanted to do and clarify the brief. Then, the team jumped into writing the script, ensuring there was enough representation. They submitted 4–5 script examples they generated, and we merged two scripts, creating one that worked best for us and hit the different points we wanted. 

From there, we reviewed the script and added some humor and other creative touches. Prodigium Pictures did the casting, finding one deaf and one hard-of-hearing actor for the video. Then, the team filmed the video, and I was there to make sure the app was used correctly. After a week and a half, the team presented the first cut. We worked with them on the sound mixing and music. 

The final deliverables were a short version and an extended cut of the video, which we used for our marketing assets and published on Facebook. We also worked with them to look at the marketing metrics and results of the video. 

What is the team composition?

We worked with Tobias and Hiroki (Partners & Producers), an assistant, two scriptwriters, an editor, and the filming crew. Near the end, we also worked with another teammate to look at the marketing metrics. 

How did you come to work with Prodigium Pictures?

We looked at recommended providers and how they were financed. Tobias and I went to college together, and I felt that Prodigium Pictures would be a good bang for the buck and more involved in the creative process than other providers, so I chose them. 

What is the status of this engagement?

We worked together from September–October 2016.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

The video was in place for us to launch on time, and we got 2 million views on the video within three weeks, putting our product on the map. Since then, we’ve completed 3 million views, and we've also won an award. Additionally, users have gained awareness of the challenge we’re addressing and shared it with other people, so the video effectively converted our proposition. In terms of conversions, we had so many app downloads within the first 24 hours that our servers crashed, and we had to send verification codes to 20,000 people manually. 

The Prodigium Pictures team was very collaborative and took our input. For example, one of our designers brought video effects, and the team let me into the filming set. Overall, we had a really good partnership that led to absolutely outstanding results for our product launch.

How did Prodigium Pictures perform from a project management standpoint?

Their project management was great. We used Google Workspace to collaborate, and we communicated through slack. For feedback, we used Frame.io, where we left commentary for the video.

What did you find most impressive about them?

I was most impressed by how Prodigium Pictures focused on having a partnership with us from the very beginning to the very end. They were also very effective, fast, and direct. They did really deep research and understood what we do pretty well. 

Are there any areas they could improve?

We worked together over four years ago, and I believe they’ve improved on any feedback we gave them.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

My advice is to be clear about what you want and ready to invest time. For projects like these to get a high ROI, you need your leadership’s involvement.

I know the founder Tobi, a great guy, since 2013 when I worked at the Bay Area. He is a brilliant and always highly motivated guy.

We discussed together the shoots and send them our brand book - then Prodigium Pictures took over showing us their shooting plan, with all important spots to shoot, models they have chosen, etc.

I’m the creative director at ExtremeReach, a B2B advertising technology company. We specialize in broadcast TV, linear TV, digital video, and talent rights management.

What challenge were you trying to address with Prodigium Pictures?

We needed help in producing a brand marketing video to promote our services.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

We hired Prodigium Pictures to help us produce a marketing video, a sizzle reel, to promote our single, end-to-end supply chain for video advertising. They wrote the script and handled all production, direction, staging, casting, and compliance work. They were in charge of casting models, tackling rights agreements, and making sure that we were complying with all of the COVID regulations and Italian rights compliance issues.

The original video was about one minute and a half long, but they also made a cut-down version that was 30-seconds long. The shorter version required an entirely different production — Prodigium Pictures had to hire another person to compose and arrange a new soundtrack for the shorter version of the video. They also did a phenomenal amount of great work on the CGI for this video, which was the most important part of it.

The videos were primarily posted on our website, but we’ve also posted them on our social media channels, including Vimeo and YouTube. We’ve bought a lot of media to place the videos around, and we’ve also used it for several different events.

Before this project, they also made three other animated videos for us, for which they did some really advanced animation work like voiceovers, rigging, and art storyboards.

We’ve worked with a producer, a director, a photographer, a musician, some voice-over actors, and a staging crew from Prodigium Pictures.

How did you come to work with Prodigium Pictures?

We had initially reached out to Prodigium Pictures to pitch them on using us for payroll for their productions, but after hearing great feedback about their video production work, we ended up hiring them instead.

How much have you invested with them?

We spent $130,000 for the marketing video, $8,000 for the cut-down version, and $28,000 for the animated videos. I’d say we’ve spent around $166,000 so far.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working together in March 2020, and the engagement is ongoing.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

All of the videos that Prodigium Pictures have created for us have been doing great, and they give us insights to do more similar projects with them. We’ve seen a lot of engagement on social media as well as a significant brand lift and completion rates that were really over the top.

How did Prodigium Pictures perform from a project management standpoint?

Prodigium Pictures has performed well in terms of project management. Their workflow is really organized and they always make sure that they get all of the content, feedback, and review process that they need. 

They also consistently deliver on time and within budget. If we have budget creep or even scope creep, they make sure to document it in advance. So if we're asking for something that might exceed our budget or timeline, they will assess our situation and we will work together to figure out the best way to do it.

They’ve only been doing this for a handful of years, so they’re extremely eager to please and do things right. They have this collective mindset where all of their principals work together on everything, so there’s never anything out of step or out of focus. Not only that, but they also make us feel like we’re on the same team. Overall, they’re just an incredibly smart, careful, creative group of people, and I’ve really enjoyed working with them.

We typically communicate through phone calls, Google Meet, and email, and we use Markup.io for real-time feedback.

What did you find most impressive about them?

I’m most impressed with Prodigium Pictures’ creativity and logistical strategy. They’re both the brand and muscles of production — it’s not just one or the other. They have the ability to intimately understand what we’re asking for and what the inherent limitations and parameters are. 

I also appreciate the fact that they’re already familiar with our brand and our particular workflow, which makes the whole process a lot easier. As an Italian rights compliance business, we really appreciate that Prodigium Pictures not only understands our mindset but they also work within it. They understand the importance of compliance, so we never have to worry about that when working with them. They’re incredibly on point in terms of business continuity.

Are there any areas they could improve?

I don’t think there’s anything Prodigium Pictures could improve on. Right now, there’s nothing that would stop me from joyfully working with them again.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Make sure to present all of your ideas and to take the time to explore all of them with Prodigium Pictures, because there’s not an idea that’s too big or too small for them. They can dive in and really explore all of the possibilities and even find ways to make things cheaper and faster for you.

We are a mobility company with headquarters in Tokyo, Japan, that has created an autonomous device for people, especially disabled and elderly, to use in places such as airports and hospitals. We have just recently started expansion into North America and have had several trials throughout the US and Canada.
