Migration of a Neptune application to SAP BTP MDK for cost-related reasons.
An analysis of the Neptune application—covering both backend and frontend—was conducted. On the backend, an OData service was developed, incorporating logic derived from existing Neptune services, with the necessary adaptations. For the frontend, an equivalent application was built using MDK, featuring the same functionality.
Barcode scanning was implemented, and RFID scanning was added. The app’s online and offline functionality was maintained.

What were the measurable outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

Success was reflected in uninterrupted online/offline inventory operations, faster barcode/RFID capture, reduced manual stock transfers, improved accuracy in inventory differences and stock types, and lower dependence on third-party licenses.

The project was delivered on time and within scope according to the agreed schedule. Although there were delays, these were attributable to the BTP Configuration setup, which fell outside the scope of the PS team. Regarding PS, functional enhancements and app corrections were requested, all of which were addressed within the agreed SLAs.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

What was most impressive was that only 1 or 2 preliminary alignment meetings were held before initiating the analysis, development, and MDK app configuration on BTP. These initial sessions were sufficient to scope, estimate, and successfully deliver the initial baseline version of the solution.

Are there any areas for improvement or something Practical Solutions Technologies could have done differently?

As an area for improvement, though not critical or high-risk, certain app features exhibited functional issues or UI rendering inconsistencies that could have been delivered with higher quality.

We’ve noticed clear progress in the quality and stability of the ABAP developments delivered. We’ve also noticed improved response times for incidents and requests, along with cleaner and better-documented code. Smooth communication and Practical Solutions Technologies’ commitment to agreed timelines are also key factors reflecting the success of the collaboration.

Overall, we’ve noticed qualitative improvements in our workflow, such as greater confidence from our internal team when delegating ABAP technical tasks, less friction when coordinating requirements thanks to the provider’s good communication, and an overall sense of reassurance knowing that requests are handled seriously and within agreed timelines. We also have granular visibility into operator hours and machine usage, which has allowed us to significantly reduce idle times, eliminate bottlenecks, and better measure labor productivity.Regarding banking and financial metrics, we now have full, step-by-step traceability from initial payment requests to final execution and bank settlement. Eliminating blind spots in banking operations has drastically reduced processing lead times and virtually eliminated manual errors in bank transfers.In terms of numbers, we've decreased machine and operator idle time by 20%–30% through real-time shop floor visibility. We've also improved cycle time tracking accuracy for machinery and labor by 100%, moving from retroactive manual logs to instantaneous digital tracking. Moreover, we've achieved near-zero error rates (>95% reduction) in bank transfers and payment routing by replacing manual data entry with end-to-end automation. Finally, we've cut payment processing and bank reconciliation times by over 60%, providing complete end-to-end auditability across all transactions.Beyond operational efficiency, the project has successfully achieved full audit compliance across all automated banking procedures and significantly enhanced internal risk controls for our company.
