I co-own a small studio with my wife. We make clay portraits of various kinds.

What challenge were you trying to address with Pithy Studios?

We were at an early stage in our business, so it was important to set up a brand image that was accurate to what we wanted to portray.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Pithy Studios designed our company’s logo. First, we introduced them to our business, what we’re trying to achieve, and what our brand stands for philosophically. Pithy Studios’ client service personnel was on this initial call and introduced us to their company and background. 

We had 4–5 meetings with Pithy Studios’ design team. Initially, they gave us a questionnaire to determine what kind of logo design we liked and the reasons why. The questionnaire also helped us assess our color scheme, font size, and font style preferences. We also told them what we wanted our font to represent. 

From there, Pithy Studios came back with numerous ideas to set the project’s direction. They used illustrations of what our logo could look like on the website or a magazine with accompanying professional photography. Once we set the theme, Pithy Studios provided various iterations; they offered three different choices. The first option was their understanding of what we wanted the logo to look like, the second option combined contrasting ideas, and the third was a wild card option with outside-the-box thinking. 

We discussed the three options and provided comments on each design, which led to the final design. Pithy Studios provided brand guidelines and a color scheme along with the logo. They also delivered different versions of the logo, including the logo mark, a handwritten-style spelled-out version, and separate types of logos with our name in different fonts. We’ll put the logo on our artifacts and packaging. Once we have a website, the logo will also appear on it. 

What is the team composition?

We worked with three teammates from Pithy Studios. A client-facing team member fed information to a 2D logo design specialist and the founder, who did much of the design work. 

How did you come to work with Pithy Studios?

We found Pithy Studios through an online search for design companies. Many of the companies we found primarily focused on web or social media design and would provide logo design as a secondary service. We approached several companies, and most had a cold sales discussion about their prices and what they could deliver. 

Pithy Studios showed a passion for their job and interest in our company and philosophy. After our first conversation, we felt immediately engaged with their team, so we chose them. We didn’t know what the logo would look like and needed direction from our provider. However, it would be difficult for a design company to create a design we liked without knowing us as a company. Our initial conversations with Pithy Studios stood out because they understood us. 

How much have you invested with them?

We spent £3,000 (approximately $3,700 USD). 

What is the status of this engagement?

We worked together in January 2023.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

We’re very happy with the logo Pithy Studios designed. The team was very engaged throughout the process, and we were part of the journey to the final logo design. Pithy Studios was very hands-on, and we were very happy with the quality of their work and their professionalism. We enjoyed working with them so much that we’re considering engaging Pithy Studios further to design our website. 

How did Pithy Studios perform from a project management standpoint?

Their project management was good. They responded to our questions or requests very quickly. Each time they presented iterations through Google Drive, they gave us a couple of days to review them before scheduling a meeting to discuss them. 

Our main communication tool was email. We used Google Meet for our meetings.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Although we don’t have experience working with other design agencies, we were impressed with Pithy Studios’ team’s engagement from the first meeting. They were passionate about their work and interested in us. 

Moreover, we were happy with the service they provided; their responses were very swift. Even though they’re a small company, they had at least two designers working on our project, and we didn’t have delayed responses. 

Are there any areas they could improve?

There was nothing they needed to change.

We needed a new modern logo for our new brand and a speedy, high quality delivery was critical. Alex/ Pithy conducted a series of quick interviews to thoroughly understand our needs, and then provided three main ideas for the logo. We decided to continue with one of them and ultimately got exactly what we wanted in less than a week.

The project was to originally design the menus for the cafe in 2020 and have them updated each year.

We chose the vendor because he was recommended to us by a friend who used him for various projects and they were really happy with the service provided.

I initially emailed the vendor asking if he would be able to assist in designing the menus for the cafe and he immediately drafted some menus for me to review and after a few emails we came to a decision and the vendor drew up the menus and emailed them to me for printing.

The documents were very easy to print out my end and looked professional when printed.

The project manager was really easy to deal with and always obliging his responses were immediate and the menus were updated very quickly and efficiently.

The project manager was really helpful and nothing seemed too much trouble.

Our website was an immediate hit. Our email enquiries really took off. We have had great feedback about our website.

We answered a questionnaire to provide some initial guidance. This information was used to develop options for consideration and we provided feedback. Three further concepts were prepared and adjusted as needed to allow the final design to be selected.

There is always room for improvement in any business, but I cannot think of anything problems we encountered with our process.
