OneLab Ventures was hired to develop a full-stack personalised wellness platform based on existing UI/UX designs. The platform was designed around three pillars — Movement, Nourishment and Self-Care — and included a public website, user onboarding and questionnaires, personalised weekly plans, content libraries, an activity player, progress tracking and calendar functionality, an admin dashboard, subscription payments, an online shop, blog and in-app coach chat. The agreed scope also included backend and database development, authentication, payment integration, QA and testing, deployment, and delivery of the application for web and mobile. The final deliverables included web deployment and mobile applications packaged and published on both the Google Play Store and Apple App Store.

What were the measurable outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

The project did not achieve the agreed outcome. The contracted scope was for a completed personalised wellness platform, including web and mobile delivery. While a web version was developed, it was not delivered to me as a fully functioning, launch-ready product and required substantial further development after I engaged another development team. The mobile applications included in the agreed scope were not delivered or published on either the Google Play Store or Apple App Store.

Project management was one of the most challenging aspects of the engagement. The project was originally scoped for eight weeks, but the agreed deliverables were not completed within that timeframe. Communication was often difficult, and I frequently had to identify issues myself and repeatedly explain requirements or point out where the implementation did not match the agreed designs or functionality. As a non-technical client, I expected the project manager and development team to help translate my requirements into technical solutions and guide the development process. Instead, I often felt that I was expected to provide a level of technical direction that I did not have the expertise to provide. The original project manager was eventually replaced after I raised concerns about the difficulties we were having. Although attempts were made to address some of the issues, the fundamental problems were not resolved. By the end of the engagement, communication had deteriorated significantly and outstanding issues remained unresolved.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

The initial consultation and sales process were impressive. The company presented a convincing vision of how they could bring my project to life, and my initial conversations with Rahul gave me confidence that they understood what I wanted to achieve. Unfortunately, my experience after the project began did not match those initial expectations.

Are there any areas for improvement or something Onelab Ventures could have done differently?

The biggest area for improvement would be taking greater responsibility for understanding the client’s requirements and translating them into appropriate technical solutions, particularly when working with non-technical founders. I was transparent about not having a technical background. I expected the development team and project manager to bring the technical expertise, ask the right questions, identify gaps and work collaboratively with me to find solutions. Instead, I often felt that responsibility was pushed back onto me and that I was expected to provide technical answers I was not qualified to provide. Project management, communication, QA and attention to the agreed designs also needed significant improvement. There were repeated occasions where work was presented as completed even though functionality was still missing or not working correctly, or the implementation did not reflect the provided Figma designs. Most importantly, I believe a project should not be considered complete until the agreed deliverables have actually been delivered. In my case, the web platform was not left in a fully functioning, launch-ready state and required substantial further development by another team. The mobile applications included in the agreed scope were not delivered or published. I also believe communication and problem-solving should remain consistent after payment. When problems arise, the focus should be on taking responsibility, communicating clearly and finding workable solutions with the client rather than shifting responsibility between parties.

The platform aggregated real-time loan offers from multiple lenders, presenting them in a simple, comparative format based on the user’s credit score, loan amount, and term preferences. Key features will included:

• Loan Calculator: Incorporate tools allowing users to calculate monthly payments based on different loan amounts, interest rates, and terms.

We searched for eligible developers in our network and found them via a recommendation by a friend for whom they had worked previously. After discussing our problem statement with them, they provided us the solutions steps. So, we hired them.
