Our client was a new company in the e-commerce fulfillment arena. They had a clear idea about their business. However, since they didn’t have much experience in operations, it was difficult for them to fully specify their IT infrastructure needs.

We worked closely with ODB's teams to assess and predict the client's workflows and gain insights into the nuances and complexities of an e-commerce fulfillment IT environment. The main deliverables of our collaboration were:

Detailed documentation of fulfillment processes like order management, inventory tracking, pick/pack/ship operations, returns handling, and more
Analysis of future scalability needs to handle demand spikes during peak sales periods
Identifying high availability requirements for mission-critical order processing and warehouse management systems
Evaluating needs for seamless integration with major e-commerce platforms like Shopify, Magento, etc., for accurate real-time inventory sync and order capture across sales channels
Determining reporting and analytics needs to track key fulfillment metrics like order cycle times, shipping costs, inventory turnover, returns rate, etc., for data-driven decisions

What were the measurable outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

Based on the detailed discussions we had with ODB's teams, we much better understood how e-commerce fulfillment works. We immersed ourselves in their day-to-day workflows to comprehend the actual problems our clients would face as a startup. The inside view helped us assess their scalability, availability, security, and compliance requirements. At this point, we're halfway done moving our clients over to the cloud.

ODB took a very collaborative approach when we worked together. They were deeply involved in our client’s case right from the start. We scheduled sync-ups several times per week, but our team could also reach out any time we had an urgent question. Fast replies and total engagement overall!
