Founder and boardmember of Web3 Creatives Foundation. Web3 Creatives Foundation connects and enables creatives to bring curiosity and insight to leaders in the Web3 industry. Our flagship initiative, 'Offscript', is a experiential offsite connecting creatives in Web3.

For what projects/services did your company hire Onda Studio, and what were your goals?

Offscript was the foundation's first undertaking. As an event for creatives in the Web3 industry, we needed a web presence that foreshadowed the laid-back, inspirational, eclectic event we envisioned. We were acutely aware that our target audience has a particularly keen eye for design and that the web design would be essential to promote ticket sale and ultimately engage the crowd we were looking to attract.

How did you select this vendor and what were the deciding factors?

Onda joined our organizing team as a partner. Being the target audience of the event themselves, their enthusiasm, commitment and understanding of what we were aiming to achieve was obvious.

After an initial briefing call, a content designer of Onda Studio clarified our goals. For example the actions we wanted people to take when visiting the site and the impression we wanted to leave on them. Based on this back and forth, they prepared a site structure. This gave us an idea of what information would appear where and what items would get more emphasis. It helped identify all content that would be needed.

Once the site structure was complete, another designer joined in to create the visual design of the site. Applying brand elements like colors and symbols, and introducing new elements like a bold typeface. These elements combined instantly made the initial designs feel 'on brand' and very much fitting the event and audience. With content and design in a close to final state the team started implementation in Webflow. Adding cherries like a captivating animation.

After the main pages were done, the team took care of launching the site. They continued support in making content changes as well as extensions such as integration of a ticketsale flow, including Web3 integration for a NFT and ticketsale in partnership.

The contribution of Onda Studio was key to our mission. I'm positive that we would not have succeeded without their expertise.

We coordinated on Discord and Notion. Communication was informal and fluent. The team shared work regularly to keep us abreast of the state of things.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

They were able to find a sweet spot between uniqueness and productivity. The site stands out and grabs attention without ever overcomplicating things in site design or process. Nimble and effective.

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

Copy (in English) needed an extra back and forth on grammar and spelling. This was the case also for copy provided by us. It's something to be mindful of when no native English speakers are involved from either party.

We select Onda Studio because of their previous experience with web3 projects. It made us feel more comfortable and confident they would get our culture, goals, and vibe.

The process is smooth and well structured. For the website, it starts with market research, followed by a mood board presentation that leads to the strategy and copy development, proof-of-concept, iteration, and delivery. The communication plan has created a guideline to help us communicate the best way in each social media channel strategically and consistently.

Regarding tools, they used Figma for design-related deliverables, Webflow for the no-code development, and notion for a communication plan.

Onda Studio has put about 5-6 people between designers, developers, copywriters, marketers, and project managers.

We now have a branded site that communicates clearly our mission, values, skills, and work. Plus, we can re-use design components on social media based on the communication plan Onda built for us.

Successful. The communication between our team and Onda was clear, easy, and consistent. Onda was very welcoming of feedback and open to discussing new solutions. Besides, they did offer new inputs we could have never thought of, which delivered a lot of value to our brand.

Their capacity to quickly solve our problems was impressive.

Nothing that comes to mind.

Introduce your business and what you do there.

I am the co-founder and head of strategy and product at Disco. We are a decentralized identity company, and we bring profiles and other identity primitives to the Web3 space.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with Onda Studio?

We needed a more robust marketing website that effectively detailed what we do. Our product is highly technical and can be challenging to understand. 

Our goal for the site was to drive inbound engagement. We wanted Onda to help us put a fresh face on these highly technical concepts. We wanted the site to have more end user appeal and be more customer-oriented so that users didn’t feel they were interacting with a site that looked like it was for developers.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

I had a meeting with Francisco (CEO). We also worked with another branding agency to take our brand to the next level. Three simultaneous entities were involved in the project: my company, our branding agency, and Onda. Our branding agency passed their work to Onda to use for the final site design.

I had done some internal branding for the logo and color scheme and shared it with them. We laid out a rough scope regarding how many pages and sections the site would have. We laid out wireframes for a header, the product features, a press section, and a footer. Then, Onda produced static mockups in Figma that showed the design direction. They did a rough build of the desktop version on Webflow. Then we went through a few polishing stages to move certain animations around. They integrated third-party APIs, such as our Greenhouse job board, into our site. 

We went back and forth with the copy, and the delays in building the site came from my team because we didn’t have everything ready in the timeframe we had committed to. Once they mocked up the site and I saw where certain graphics would be, I created those and submitted them to Onda to place on the site. They formed the bulk of the site’s look and feel.

The core functionalities include a series of read-only information and animations. They also included an intake form for users to sign up through the site. They added a few more recent logos from our investors, and then Onda worked with our designer to transfer the project over to us in Webflow. My team has experience with Webflow, so we can make small changes without involving developers. 

What is the team composition?

We worked with three people: Francisco, a designer, and a team member who handled scheduling and feedback. 

How did you come to work with Onda Studio? 

I was working on a conference, and the conference organizers brought in Francisco to build the website. Then, I started my company and immediately considered partnering with Onda because I was already familiar with their work, and I liked their designs. 

We primarily chose Onda because they use Webflow. Webflow is advantageous because it makes the handoff easier regarding access and ownership.

How much have you invested with them?

We invested roughly $25,000 in the partnership. 

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working together in February 2022 and we did the handoff in June 2022.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

We aimed for users to visit the site and sign up, so we measured impact through engagement. We’ve been really happy with the numbers and have seen 3,000–4,000 sign-ups. We’ve also had great feedback on the site from Twitter and other social media platforms. People have told us that they love the site, and we’re delighted with it. 

How did Onda Studio perform from a project management standpoint?

They did an excellent job, given the vagueness of our initial requirements. They delivered everything on time and managed our chaos effectively. There was one minor misalignment issue with branding, but they ironed it out quickly. 

I really appreciated Onda’s flexibility with the scope of work and the timeline because my team didn’t adhere to it as closely as we intended. They were really flexible in accommodating our slower pace, which I appreciated. Most of our communication took place via Zoom, phone calls, and emails. They used Notion to share project plans at the beginning. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

Their strength lies in their designs, which are very modern and up-to-date with current trends. I was also impressed with their Webflow expertise; they could use the tool to its maximum capacity. They used Webflow to the extent that we accomplished all of the animations and effects we wanted. We benefitted significantly from both the team’s creativity and their grasp of Webflow.

Are there any areas they could improve?

I have nothing they could improve on. 

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

My advice would be to give Onda’s designers room to explore. Avoid being overly prescriptive and controlling, and give them space to utilize their creativity rather than trying to micromanage the design.

Can you share any measurable outcomes of the project or general feedback about the deliverables?

We now have a branded site that communicates our values and the new member application is a lot smoother now too., plus we can re-use design components to other community comms channels eg. our "Hey CTO" podcast.

The project management was done through Notion where we could check, regularly, the timeline and deliverables. The communication of the various tasks was done through email and video calls on a weekly basis.

They guided us through the process and communicated well via slack, which helped trim any rough edge.

Comms have been smooth so even the occasional bug that naturally appears was solved super fast.

The project encompassed the stages of market research, mood board development, strategy and copy development, proof-of-concept, iteration and delivery. These are steps viewed from our perspective as clients, however, the actual process was more detailed and beautifully handled by Onda Studio guiding us along all the steps.

During this process we were able to discover more about our own brand and goals as well as also get valuable insights into our own roadmap. The end result was a beautiful website that has been praised by every person that interacts with us.

The process outcome was not only the delivery of what we asked for but also went beyond and was fruitful within our organisation at many different levels. This was, for us, a concrete measure of success.

Very effective and frictionless. We went through different iterations and in each one previous discussions were clearly taken into consideration helping to move the project always forward.

Empathy and ease of relationship between their team and ours together with dedication to their work that shows in the end.

In our project we had different people interacting with us and there was a period were this was a bit confusing. They eventually fixed this without us even asking but maybe that would be the thing to improve in subsequent projects.

Onda's process is very polished. The discovery process is well structured and so is the delivery. The delivery part is quite iterative and they will work with you until you have something that truly represents your brand and product.

The project is still under wraps but we have received a lot of very positive feedback from members of the industry and VCs.

Their workflow was good. Onda Studio wouldn't disturb you and was quite patient.

Their approach to discovery seemed very optimal. They asked the right questions to learn about the protocol.

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

My only suggestion is that if you're going to primarily target this field you could do some deep dives in other protocols until everything makes sense from first principles.
