I'm the program manager at a software startup. We are building a team chat platform similar to Slack or Discord.

What challenge were you trying to address with okwrite?

okwrite helps us with marketing and SEO services related to the blog content on our website. They were assisting us with writing the technical blogs that will be launching with our initial site.

What was the scope of their involvement?

We had a kickoff meeting where we explained what our product was in great detail. okwrite’s team spent some time researching and learning about our target market. We brainstormed about the topics that we wanted to address, and we came up with 60 blog topics that they were going to write. 

From there, they wrote around four blogs per week. Our team would review the blogs, provide feedback, and then okwrite would come back with changes the following week. Currently, we are almost done and have two blogs left to complete.

The SEO work is done for each blog post. They come up with the best way to title the topics and the metadata for the blogs, and the keywords used in the writing. 

What is the team composition?

We have two project managers, one client success manager, and a team of writers. The project managers are my main point of contact, and I communicate with them about any of our needs. The client success manager serves in the role of delivering blog content to me and checks in via email at least once a week. I work directly with Jesse (President).

How did you come to work with okwrite?

We came to work with okwrite through a client referral. A friend of ours was initially a client of okwrite's and then assisted them in setting up their website.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working together in November 2020. We're almost finished with the initial engagement, and then we have plans to roll that into an ongoing engagement as we make requests for blogs in batches.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We have an internal marketing push that we are working on, and a big part of that is just content in general, not necessarily blogs. We are considering expanding our engagement with okwrite in that realm specifically because the best thing about them is that they have done their due diligence.

They’ve learned and now understand not just our product, but our statement as well. I have full faith that they are educated in our brand and in the target market that we are focusing on. For me, that's a big selling point because we don’t have to go through another educational process with somebody else. They've done a really good job of understanding us. 

How did okwrite perform from a project management standpoint?

I work with their project managers and Jesse, and they're always available. They're a pleasure to talk to, and whenever we have calls, it never feels overly professional.

They understand what I want when I ask for something, and they provide it in a timely manner. Working with them has been a pleasure from a personal as well as a professional standpoint. 

The project management tools are actually on my end because I have tools that I use to keep track of the blog progress. I know that okwrite has an internal process for tracking things, but I don't see that. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

There are two things that I’ve found impressive from okwrite. Number one, the personal feel that they provide is impressive. They are available whenever I need them. Jesse has been on a number of our calls and chats personally with us. That's a big differentiator because it's hard to get this kind of service in a marketing-saturated world. 

On top of that, they’ve done an extremely good job of learning our product and becoming experts in the material. I think both of those things together make them extremely valuable blog writers. 

Are there any areas they could improve?

They should have a stronger vetting process on blogs. There have been the occasional slip-ups where some of our terminology on product-specific features were misunderstood. It's clear that the project managers know this, but it slipped through the cracks and sometimes the articles seem like they aren’t fully read before being sent over. 

Any advice for potential customers?

Be clear in your feedback and provide examples of what specifically you want to change. You have to read the whole blog and address specific sentences or specific paragraphs. By pointing out parts that you don’t like or that should have a different message, you're going to get blogs that you're very satisfied with.

What challenge were you trying to address with okwrite?

We needed more content for our content marketing efforts. We wanted to get more traffic from search engines and also establish a better blog for our website and marketing efforts.

What was the scope of their involvement?

okwrite created our content marketing strategy, and they provide us with written content for our blog and website. They research and come up with topics that will be interesting for our target audience. They create a content calendar to schedule these topics, work with writers to produce articles on those topics, and then deliver the articles to us for publishing.

I work with about four people. There’s a project manager assigned to me, and I mostly communicate with them. Sometimes, I work directly with the writers and leave comments for them in different articles.

I found them on Google, and then I contacted them. I chose them because they are also located in Canada. It seemed like they offered the good writing services that we were looking for, and it worked for us.

We’ve invested around $9,000. 

What is the status of this engagement?

Our partnership began in January 2020, and it is been ongoing.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

We measure the results by looking at our search engine positioning for specific topics. The pages written by okwrite have ranked very well in search engine results for competitive terms. Those pages have also gotten more web traffic.

How did okwrite perform from a project management standpoint?

We just communicate over email, and they use Google Docs for writing content and Google Sheets for scheduling. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

okwrite is able to understand the topics that our customers are interested in. They’re also able to come up with interesting content ideas to cover those topics.

Are there any areas they could improve?

Sometimes, they could provide more technical content for some topics. That would be beneficial.

The main strategy they employed to increase lead generation was content marketing using keywords. They used some AI tools and marketing tools to help identify what keywords to focus on. Their team produces five articles for us per month.

I found them while exploring my options for lead generation. Most other vendors were outside of our budget. Along the way, I met the developer of a software solution that assists with lead generation, but I couldn’t afford to purchase the software and licensing myself. I asked them to recommend a vendor that uses the software, and that is how I found okwrite.

We spend about €1,000-€1,500 per month (approximately $1,115-$1,670 USD). 

What is the status of this engagement?

We began our ongoing relationship in July 2019.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

We don’t have any specifics metrics yet since it can take a while to see results in SEO. Some of their articles are coming up on the second page of Google, and we expect to see further growth in the coming months.

The quality of the content they produce is excellent. They also translate the articles into Spanish, which is a big plus considering the area where we operate. We couldn’t have done any of this on our own. 

How did okwrite perform from a project management standpoint?

We have a monthly call to discuss what we’re working on. They schedule three months out, so it’s easy to see what they’ll be working on at any given time. Their team also provides summaries that explain their strategy and traffic objectives for each article that they write. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

They deliver good quality work that is worth our investment. At this point, terminating our relationship is not even a consideration. We see our engagement with okwrite continuing for the foreseeable future.

No, I am very happy with them. They’re quick to accommodate us and work around our needs.

I would recommend working with them. It’s important to consider what your focus for content marketing will be.

We occasionally on external partners to create written content for our clients. We needed someone intelligent enough to take our insights and put them into action.

What was the scope of their involvement?

We bring in okwrite for specific clients that need external content-writing abilities to better use our company’s insights. One tourism company we work with lacked the ability to write content based on our advice. We brought in okwrite to deliver that content for our client. okwrite had the know-how and understanding of our company and processes to deliver a value-add on this project without needing our oversight.

Predominantly, they specialize in copywriting, but some clients also need images or other services on a case-by-case basis. okwrite can do it all.

What is the team composition?

For every project, okwrite provides a head editor and a team of about five people. The team size scales depending on the scope of the client’s needs. Jesse (President, okwrite) is my main point of contact, but we’ll also work with project managers like Erin (Content Strategist, okwrite) depending on the client’s needs.

They actually reached out to us a long time ago to build out their tech stack and learn how our company can provide value for theirs.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

I’ve been very satisfied with the work that they’ve done. The creative process can be tricky — everyone has different expectations about how something looks. But about 80%–90% of the time, okwrite delivers what the client needs on the first try. In the cases where we need creative feedback, they provide edits, take criticism, and lead a constructive process. It’s nice to have a partner where we never have to worry about their work or the project outcome.

How did okwrite perform from a project management standpoint?

The team is very consultative and client-focused. With other partners, I’ve seen egos get in the way of the project. okwrite always puts the client first and checks their ego at the door. Their ability to take feedback is a positive.

We typically communicate with the team over the phone and Zoom, but we’ve occasionally met with Jesse in person.

What did you find most impressive about them?

We look for partners that can eliminate stress and risk, and okwrite is one of them. Once okwrite gets involved, we know that they can follow through and execute what the client needs on their own. That certainty is something we appreciate.

Are there any areas they could improve?

There’s always room to improve on setting timelines. okwrite is not inherently bad at that, but they can pick more aggressive timelines in order to please the client. Every company has a tough time striking a balance between quality and deadlines. However, on occasion, we’ll be a day behind, but it doesn’t matter if the client likes what they see. It’s never been a big deal.

Any advice for potential customers?

Be open about what you’re looking to accomplish, and they’ll work with you. okwrite is really flexible and intent on solving the problem that you put in front of them.
