Describe the scope of work in detail. Please include a summary of key deliverables.
The scope of work included the design, development, testing, and deployment of the CloPinz mobile application for both iOS and Android. The project involved taking the initial product concept and developing it into a functional, market-ready application designed to manage and enhance on-course golf contests. Key deliverables included development of the iOS and Android applications; user registration and account functionality; golf course and contest setup; Closest-to-the-Pin and Long Drive contest functionality; camera-based ball and hole identification and measurement capabilities; GPS-based location and distance verification; real-time contest leaderboards and results; practice-mode functionality; course-specific access and activation features; and the supporting backend infrastructure required to manage users, courses, contests, and results. The scope also included user interface and user experience development, integration and testing of the application's core technologies, troubleshooting and refinement throughout development, preparation for production release, and deployment through the Apple App Store and Google Play Store. Overall, the primary deliverable was a complete, scalable mobile platform that allows golf courses and golfers to create, participate in, verify, and track Closest-to-the-Pin and Long Drive competitions digitally, replacing traditional manual measurement and contest-management processes.
RESULTS & FEEDBACK
What were the measurable outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?
Considerable upside in user engagement coming from the real-time leaderboards feature.
Considerable time reduction while taking measurements during tournaments.
Describe their project management. Did they deliver items on time? How did they respond to your needs?
Alex and his team have been phenomenal throughout the entire project. From the beginning, their project management has been organized, responsive, and highly collaborative. They have consistently communicated where things stand, what they are working on, and what is needed from us to keep the project moving forward. They have done an excellent job delivering on timelines, but what has impressed me even more is how responsive and adaptable they have been as the project has evolved. Building CloPinz involved developing some unique technology and solving problems that didn't always have an obvious or existing solution. Whenever we encountered a challenge or wanted to adjust or improve something, Alex and his team were quick to understand what we were trying to accomplish and find a way to make it happen. Alex in particular has been exceptional to work with. He is extremely intelligent and technically capable, but he is also someone who genuinely cares about the project and the people he is working with. He has taken the time to understand our vision rather than simply completing a list of assigned tasks, and there have been numerous occasions where his ideas and recommendations have made the product better. Communication has always been excellent, and I have never felt like our needs or concerns were being ignored. Even when unexpected development challenges arose, they were transparent about them, worked through the issues, and kept us informed. Overall, I could not be happier with their project management or responsiveness. The Noughty Fox 🦊 has felt much more like partners in building CloPinz than an outside development company we hired to complete a project.
What was your primary form of communication with The Noughty Fox 🦊?
Virtual Meeting
What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?
What impressed me most about Alex and his company actually happened before I ever hired them. I spent 45 straight nights interviewing developers and development companies trying to find someone who could build CloPinz. The biggest challenge was achieving the level of measurement accuracy I needed on an actual golf course. Unlike a controlled environment, a golf green has no fixed reference points, the ground is constantly changing and undulating, and every green and every location on that green is different. Most of the developers I spoke with told me that achieving the accuracy I needed under those conditions simply couldn't be done. A few thought it might be possible, but wanted $5,000–$10,000 just to conduct the testing necessary to determine whether they could actually build it. Then I spoke with Alex. He told me he thought he could do it, but he didn't feel right charging me money until he knew for sure. He asked me to give him 24 hours to do some testing on his own. The next day, Alex came back to me with a working model of the technology that would eventually become CloPinz. That told me almost everything I needed to know about him. He had the technical intelligence and creativity to solve a problem that many other developers had told me was impossible, but just as importantly, he had the integrity not to take my money until he knew he could deliver. That combination has continued throughout our entire relationship. Alex is an incredibly talented developer, but he is also simply a very good person. He and his team genuinely care about what they build and about the people they build it for. After 45 nights of searching, I wasn't just looking for someone who could write code. I needed someone who could figure out how to make an idea that didn't really exist yet actually work in the real-world conditions of a golf course. Alex demonstrated that he could do that in 24 hours, and that initial experience has proven to be representative of the intelligence, creativity, integrity, and commitment his team has brought to CloPinz ever since.
Are there any areas for improvement or something The Noughty Fox 🦊 could have done differently?
The only area where I experienced some difficulty was early in the project with the initial project management structure. At times, I felt there was a disconnect between what I was communicating and what was being delivered. Some details were being missed or misunderstood, which could be frustrating when development time and resources were being spent on something that wasn't quite what I had intended. What impressed me, though, was how quickly the company recognized and addressed the issue. A change was made to the project management team, and from that point forward the experience improved significantly. Communication became much clearer, there was a stronger understanding of the product and my vision for it, and the development process became considerably more efficient. For me, that experience actually says something positive about The Noughty Fox. No project or company is going to be perfect every step of the way, especially when developing something technically challenging from the ground up. What matters is how a company responds when something isn't working. Alex listened to my concerns, took them seriously, and made the necessary change rather than allowing the problem to continue. If I were identifying an area for improvement, it would simply be making sure the person managing a complex project has a deep understanding of both the client's vision and the technical requirements from the outset. That said, once the adjustment was made, I was extremely happy with the way the project was managed and with the experience overall.
