BACKGROUND

Introduce your business and what you do there.

We are a cultural arts organization that was set up to deliver a cultural program throughout 2017 for the city of Hull. The program aims to place Hull as a cultural destination and improve the lives of the people that live here. My role involves producing content for our website and social media channels in collaboration with photographers, filmmakers, and writers.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with Northern Visuals?

We wanted to capture the events that we were hosting throughout the year and showcase them in the best possible light. We also needed help promoting those events with trailers and interactive graphics, as well as interviews with local businesses and cultural leaders to tell the city’s story. Leading into the project, we needed a skilled team with flexibility and creative ideas to supplement our staff.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

We came up with an initial script and sent it off to them. They’d contribute their ideas, help shape it a bit further, and provide ideas on how to improve it. The videos created were mainly for our site and social media platforms, primarily Facebook and Instagram. They also produced films that were played at a live conference event. There were animated graphics, some sound mixing, and scripting writing, but the primary services they provided were filming and editing. Altogether, we collaboratively produced 35-45 videos. This included 27 interviews, which were wrapped into five short films and one long film.

How did you come to work with Northern Visuals?

We listed a request for quotation (RFQ) out into the public domain and they contacted us with a quotation. They made it on our short list with several other companies that were providing other services for us, and we eventually reached out.

How much have you invested with them?

We’ve spent about £35,000 ($39,537 USD).

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working together in ’ve just wrapped up our last project together.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

When we put videos on our channel, we got tens of thousands of views. At our conference, 370 people saw the films. The views on our social media channels are between 10,000-60,000.

How did Northern Visuals perform from a project management standpoint?

They were organized, quick to ask questions, and always delivered projects on time. If things were running behind schedule, they put in extra time to make sure things were complete for us. We appreciated their patience when we experienced delays on our end. They worked flexibly and always delivered more than what we asked.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Their ability to take criticism and adapt to our needs was crucial to the partnership. Throughout the year, they developed and improved tremendously. We could really see the difference in the work they produced from start to finish.

Are there any areas they could improve?

They should keep diversifying and trying out new projects.
