I’m the VP of communications and financial development at the YMCA of Newfoundland and Labrador, a charity organization offering programs in health, employment, childcare, enterprise services, and a wide range of other services.

What challenge were you trying to address with Newfound Marketing?

We wanted to increase our sales and revenue and get more people involved in the YMCA, so we needed help with our digital marketing.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Newfound Marketing provides us with digital marketing services to draw and encourage people to attend our health and fitness programs at our three locations across the province. Moreover, they help us with other marketing efforts focused on different aspects of our business, including raising awareness of our financial assistance program, encouraging donors to help us, and marketing any special events.

Newfound Marketing has also developed a new website for us and given us recommendations, and they now manage it. We already had the website’s framework done, so they took it from there to completion. For this part of the project, they also set up our careers page with a system that allows people to sign up for announcements when we post new job openings. Additionally, they’ve integrated a form where these people can fill out their initial applications online.

In addition to that, Newfound Marketing helps us with our communications, using Constant Contact to launch a monthly e-newsletter that goes out to all of our staff and volunteers.  Social media plays a huge part in these marketing efforts, so they also manage our Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, and Twitter accounts and develop creative assets and digital content as needed.

What is the team composition?

I’ve worked with 6–10 people from Newfound Marketing, including Sheldon (Digital Marketing Consultant), two people who were involved in the website development, and two account managers.

How did you come to work with Newfound Marketing?

A colleague who used to volunteer for the YMCA highly recommended them. They then submitted a proposal for our project, and we ended up working together.

How much have you invested with them?

We spend about $50,000 per year.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working together in September 2020, and our engagement is ongoing.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

After launching the new website, our traffic increased by 200%. Additionally, we’ve seen other success metrics related to our social media engagement and sign-ups.

How did Newfound Marketing perform from a project management standpoint?

Newfound Marketing’s project management is excellent. We have biweekly meetings with them to review our goals, talk about adjustments, and discuss upcoming efforts, and those meetings are very effective. Additionally, we use Heyorca for social media calendar planning.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Newfound Marketing’s responsiveness is impressive. Occasionally, we need to get things done last minute, but their team is always very responsive to our requests and works with us to meet deadlines.

Are there any areas they could improve?

It would be great if we could use Newfound Marketing for print material design, but I believe they don’t focus on that at the moment.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Leverage the biweekly meetings and ensure to maintain constant communication with their team.

This is difficult to answer right now as our website is still very new and just starting to generate any orders. We have a very professional and reliable website that Newfound Marketing created that we are very proud of.
