I'm co-founder and head of experiences at RooFinders. We create hustle-free experiences for international, off-site students & young professionals coming to Milan, Italy, through a unique combination of amazing places to live, wonderful people with whom to share and memorable moments to be treasured for a lifetime

For what projects/services did your company hire NewCombin, and what were your goals?

We hired NewCombin when we were positioned in an extremely difficult situation as we had a provider before which was a complete disaster and also threatened us to keep our source code after so much hard work. So initially they were the ones that accompanied us throught the entire migration process from the previous provider to a new server.

They were extremely collaborative, they re-assured us even though we didn't understand all the specific techincalities. After that, we continued working together as they proved to be an excellent and professional company, delivering on time and working as a team on each step. Now we are currently developing our sprint 3 with them, adding funcionalities to our website. We are also working on a UX/UI project to improve our website and also on new sections.

We had invested a lot of time and money and had obtained really bad results with our former provider. So we were basically searching for someone we could trust. In particular because as we are not techinicians and don't know anything specifically on programming, it tends to be easy to "mislead" any client when it comes to proper cost and expected output. We got excellent references from NewCombin

Initial phase: Migration of the website from former's provider platform to new one hosted with AWS. Monitored the transition and the completeness of the source code transferred. Technology: Framework Javascript Vue.js. Second phase: Implemented several upgrades to the current website, corrected bugs, guaranteed the correct use of the platform. Third phase: UX/UI redesign, new upgrade phase and implementation of new pages within the website.

We have 2 people working constantly with us, that follow us each week through weekly meetings. They are the project managers, and translate our requests to the developers and are in charge of the following up of the work.

We have successfully completed 100% of our booking requests through our website.

We use Trello to communicate with NC's team. They style is super professional, clear and effective.

That we really work as a team and they adapt fastly and effeciently to our changing requirements. The most important thing is that we trust them as partners.

They were constantly requesting feedback, therefore in case there were things not working, they were always eager to correct them right away.

We wanted to create a series of landing pages. Our main goal was to provide our clients with a better experience, allow them to access our website easily, and contact us to book meetings.

What was the scope of their involvement?

NewCombin created a series of landing pages for us using WordPress. Initially, we provided them with a basic design, and they did all the rest. Currently, the team is providing maintenance and hosting support.

We work with three people from their company, including one of the founders.

We started working with NewCombin in October 2022, and it’s an ongoing collaboration.

We’ve just launched the site, so we don’t have any metrics to share yet. However, we’re pretty satisfied with NewCombin’s work.

They’ve done an excellent job from a project management standpoint —  they deliver everything on time. We communicate mainly via email and Google Meet.

Provide a very clear idea of what you want for your landing page, and let them handle the rest.

I'm the founder and CEO of U Triper, a technology company focused on solving problems in the travel industry. We operate under a SaaS model, providing software for tour operators that allows them to manage all their bookings and sell their tours online.

We needed help finishing our MVP, so we hired NewCombin to help us with the frontend development part.

What was the scope of their involvement?

NewCombin has developed the frontend of our platform almost from scratch using React. Our CTO had already done a lot of the backend development work beforehand, as well as a small part of the frontend development work, so they joined to support our in-house technology team.

NewCombin usually assigns a project manager to every project. In addition to this person, we have three more people from their team working with us.

I already knew Nicolas (Co-Founder)from our university days.

The engagement started around September 2020, and it’s still ongoing.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

The clearest indicator of our engagement’s success is the fact that we’re still working with NewCombin. We’re very happy with their work, so we continue choosing them as our development partners. During a 3–4-months period, we stopped working with them to work with an in-house developer, but we noticed that NewCombin was more efficient. Although they were more expensive, they were also more efficient, so we brought them again.

How did NewCombin perform from a project management standpoint?

NewCombin meets their deadlines and stays on budget. We have weekly sprints, and after two years of working with them, we know how much we can get done each sprint cycle. We use Discord, Trello, Miro, Figma, and Google Drive as our communication, project management, and collaboration tools.

What did you find most impressive about them?

NewCombin is very open to feedback. Additionally, they have a broad team with many different skills.

Are there any areas they could improve?

We change projects every one or two months, so it would be good if NewCombin changed the dedicated team members for our different projects. Initially, the project manager was not that involved in the project, but we let them know, and the issue was corrected. 

Any advice for potential customers?

In order to be efficient, you need to clearly define what you want so that they can assign the most appropriate resources to your project.

For what projects/services did your company hire NewCombin, and what were your goals?

We hired NewCombin to develop the whole platform that runs a diagnosis software of cardiac disease, from back-end data management to front-end 3D visualization of medical images.

SOLUTION

How did you select this vendor and what were the deciding factors?

We built a relationship over several months with projects of various sizes. We also compared with results we achieved working with smaller companies or directly with individual contractors.

The front-end was based on the Quasar Framework with Vue JS and vtk.js to handle the image visualization and interaction. The server ran on Ubuntu/Linux. The engine that did the specific analysis what outside the scope but they heavily interacted with it's inputs and outputs. They developed very sophisticated visualization techniques used in radiography. We had 2-week sprints with the option to communicate daily to resolve together any technical challenge, because we their team had to collaborate with our own researchers.

Then we had larger monthly reviews with the stakeholders. The project was very agile because the stakeholders were requesting new features monthly. The NewCombin team also provided suggestions for areas of improvement, like computational performance, which became fundamental.

The people involved changed quickly depending on the needs of the project and NewCombin was able to adapt quickly. They provided a project manager and four developers that ranged from front-end development of 3D visualizations to server configuration and database management.

The stakeholders were very happy with the outcome due to its quality, agility, and cost. If they need to continue with it, they will go back to the same team.

We communicated effectively on Google Chat, Meet and even whatsapp. We worked very well with Amazon Code Commmit and other AWS tools. Whenever someone had a question on either side, we could quickly communicate one way or another, and let the party continue working.

Very independent and well organized. Everyone had a very good attitude and respect for everyone else.

Any potential issue we addressed was welcomed and resolved immediately.

The project's main phases were: Discovery stage: Understand in detail what is needed to achieve with the implementation of the new system and how that differs from the initial stage. As an example, some of the points that needed be understood in depth were: Academic part: Information Upload: Is there an upload of documents that is done outside of the system (Words, Excel, or PDF), or a series of forms where teachers upload assessments, notes, communications, etc?

Do parents have the option to reply, sign or just view those documents? Administrative part: What needs to be included in the list of students, their data, and their background? What needs to be included in billing management? What needs to be included in collection management? What do you want to include in expense management? Evaluation stage of existing systems: Prior to any implementation of a new system, it is necessary to ensure that it is fully understood, together with the functional scope and the technical challenges of its implementation. That is why, with the needs defined, throughout this stage, it is necessary to study the different offers that exist in the market, analyzing to what extent they cover what is sought, and what are the implications and costs of their implementation.

Based on a preliminary search, there is a very wide range of school management systems, that present offers that could fit the search. Definition stage: Once it is clear what is needed and the most relevant offers on the market, all the information is available to make a decision on how to move forward. Broadly speaking, there are 3 options to be evaluated: Adopt a specialized system for the management of schools that covers what is desired. Develop a system from scratch, 100% customized based on what was sought. Work on a parameterizable management system and adapt it to your needs. Implementation or development stage: In this stage, a digital tool, Colegium was implemented module by module until covering all the areas defined on the Definition stage.
