I’m the director of product growth at Geomagical Labs, a division of IKEA. We create the IKEA Kreativ product, which allows users to visualize furniture in their home before they buy it. Users can scan their space or use other spaces to explore IKEA products they might want to purchase.

What challenge were you trying to address with Neuron?

We needed help telling the story of IKEA Kreativ to consumers in an easy-to-understand way while reflecting all the capabilities and power of our platform.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Neuron provided UX/UI strategy and design services for us. Initially, they conducted an end-to-end audit of how we communicated IKEA Kreativ and how it fit into the world of IKEA. They conducted a comprehensive review and audit of the current situation and developed strategic recommendations based on the findings.

After that, we chose several of our channels and platforms to focus on. Neuron delivered end-to-end customer journey maps and UX/UI designs for our web and mobile app products. They also delivered end-to-end user flows in a way that allowed us to test and learn in smaller steps. They synthesized the broad view of things and created designs and outputs that we could test in more discrete fashions to understand their impact.

How did you come to work with Neuron?

They came as a recommendation, which was a very powerful way to be comfortable with the provider. We saw that they quickly understood our challenges and many of the nuances. We were comfortable transitioning into more delivery projects based on that.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

The quality of Neuron's work was excellent. They considered everything that needed to be problem-solved and quickly reached a level of nuance that we had achieved over a year or more. Overall, they contributed value very quickly, which was great.

How did Neuron perform from a project management standpoint?

They delivered on time and on budget. We had a pretty aggressive timeline overall, and they met it. We used Slack for communication.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Our team was very impressed with the quality of their output, considering the speed at which they delivered it.

Are there any areas they could improve?

There were certain aspects of the product design process that were more nuanced or challenging in terms of how to approach them strategically. Onboarding was a good example. It wasn't that they weren't able to deliver the information well; it was just helpful to provide a little guidance on how they might think about the factors that would influence design strategy, customer behavior, and customer lifecycle management. However, it wasn't the kind of thing we would expect an outside design firm to have a deep basis in.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Spend a lot of time collecting context for them and providing that context to help them get up to speed as much as possible. Treat them like a new team member. Make a point of over-communicating, not just where you are today but how you got there and the things you've looked into.

We needed to do a UX/UI refresh of our client-facing platform.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Neuron has conducted a design audit and provided recommendations and ideas around design. We've reviewed and agreed upon their approach, and the team is now executing the design and delivery. Neuron is creating a design system and reskinning different pages based on that system. We're also developing a new roadmap, so Neuron is designing new pages. They primarily use Figma.

We've worked with 4–5 teammates from Neuron, mainly during the audit, because they've conducted interviews and assessed design consistency. We currently have two UX designers working on the design system and updates.

We found them on the internet. We were looking for companies that provided design services and reached out to several of them. We chose Neuron because they're highly focused on UI/UX design. We thought having a specialist in the space with that focus was interesting. Neuron excelled at providing us with a well-rounded proposal.

We started working with them in October 2024, and our engagement is ongoing.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Although we don't have metrics yet, Neuron's audit has been excellent and thorough, and they've given us a lot of information and recommendations. We like the look and feel of what Neuron is doing. Once implemented, their design system will save us time, but we're still creating it.

How did Neuron perform from a project management standpoint?

We have a dedicated team from Neuron, but other team members support them throughout the company, which has been beneficial. They communicate remarkably, giving us weekly updates and reprioritizing if something happens. Neuron has delivered on time and within budget. We use Google Meet, Slack, email, and Figma.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Neuron has experience in several industries. We're a B2B research platform, and Neuron has examples of other research platforms that need a lot of data visualizations. The team has a lot of experience in that area.

Are there any areas they could improve?

Neuron does a lot of Figma designs, but sometimes we need more prototypes for some of the designs. We'd like to see more of that because it helps in the development process, and they serve as a backup.

Be open about your needs, design style, focus areas, budget, and timelines so Neuron can work within those.

Neuron redesigned our mobile app. The team started with a discovery phase, interviewing us to understand our goals, challenges, and the app's current state. Then, Neuron created user personas during the strategy and monetization plan phase, where we defined the solution and opportunities. After that, we went into a scoping phase to determine the MVP and the features we wanted to implement within the budget. Finally, Neuron designed the app and created wireframes using Figma.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We just started implementing the app's design, but Neuron's work saved us time because we didn't have the capacity to do it in-house. The team helped us envision the design and monetization opportunities. Neuron took the project seriously and explored different options to reach final recommendations. The team went above and beyond with their work.

How did Neuron perform from a project management standpoint?

Neuron delivered the work on time. Although we had to extend the budget and timeline by eight weeks, this wasn't out of the norm for us. The team communicated well with us via Slack and weekly check-ins via Zoom.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Neuron was good at thinking through complex challenges and translating their findings into high-quality designs that resonated with users. Neuron had amazing designers.

Are there any areas they could improve?

The monetization effort was lighter than we expected, and the team could've communicated better what was necessary to keep the project on scope.

Have a more involved project demo before starting the relationship with Neuron. The more information they have, the more accurately they can scope.

I’m a travel consultant at a travel management company.

What challenge were you trying to address with Neuron?

We were developing a SaaS platform and needed a third party to audit our overall strategy and UX. We wanted to know how we could present our product to drive its adoption.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Neuron conducted what they call a Spark Review. They looked at all sides of the problem we were trying to solve, including who our user personas were, what our competition looked like, and the product's UX. They came back with a score and with recommendations to help us improve it.

Neuron gave us an onboarding document that told us what they wanted to know about the product. We filled it out and had several discovery calls. They asked questions to understand the problem we were trying to solve and why we made our decisions. We also gave them access to the product to start their assessment.

After the Spark Review, we hired Neuron for a second engagement. They designed the UI/UX and created the style guides for our product. They worked on Figma and Microsoft Power BI.

What is the team composition?

We worked with Mark, who was our project lead and contact, and a UI designer. They had a support team in the background.

How did you come to work with Neuron?

The product we were working with is very data-oriented, with data visualizations, tables, and data sets. I was looking for a UI/UX design firm with experience in data visualization. We had backend experience, but we needed frontend expertise. We also needed a team with experience in Microsoft Power BI that could keep us within its boundaries. I found Neuron and set up a call with Ryan. Based on their expertise, it seemed like a good fit.

What is the status of this engagement?

The first phase of the project lasted from October–November 2024. Then, we brought them back in November for phase two, and they finished in December 2024.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Although we don't have quantitative results yet, our platform looked much more polished and professional when we went to market, which increased its value.

How did Neuron perform from a project management standpoint?

Their project management was excellent; they managed us a bit. They were always on time and had a cadence that made the project go quickly. They pulled in the right stakeholders and asked the right questions. Because of how tight and quick their project management was, I'm about to use them again on an even bigger project. We used Microsoft Teams and Slack for our day-to-day work. They weren't rigid about needing to use their own systems for communication.

We liked that we only worked with two teammates because we didn't want to engage with a company that brings 12 people to the table, which comes with added cost and complexity. They had a really small team and could turn work around very quickly because of it.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Their knowledge was impressive. They knew UI/UX design and business strategy. While they can't be experts in every industry, and travel management is very specific, they were adept at learning about our business. I was impressed by how much they knew about our company at the end of the first four weeks. Even now, as we're starting a new project, they bring that knowledge.

Are there any areas they could improve?

We're a bigger company than Neuron, so we had things to figure out regarding payment. They needed some payment upfront, and we had to go through a tad of red tape. However, this is understandable, and now that we've used them, we have no problem paying in advance.

The more you know about your goals and the more information you provide, the better the output will be.

What challenge were you trying to address with Neuron?

We needed help with UI/UX design.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

We initially provided Neuron with a kickoff document where we defined the team and the significant views we wanted to be converted into the new design. We also provided some background on the features and functionality of our products.

From there, Neuron reviewed our product and some of our competitors. The team also conducted one-on-one interviews with our users to learn what they liked and disliked about our product's UX and to define the user personas. 

We're currently implementing the design system they created. We may continue to work with them to do one-off designs for things we didn't get to.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We don't have any concrete results yet since we're currently in the implementation phase, but Neuron's designs looked great, and our clients were impressed with them when we shared the design results. Neuron helped us create a UI that was easier to use independently without much training.

How did Neuron perform from a project management standpoint?

Overall, the team was very communicative, timely, and organized. We gave Neuron a lot of feedback in sessions, and they worked through everything without needing reminders. We used Figma to review the design work, communicated using Slack, and leveraged Google Docs.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Neuron's design skills were impressive. The team was experienced with Figma and created a user-friendly design system; they were user-oriented developers implementing the designs.

We also appreciated their flexibility and willingness to work with us. We came up with a high-level project plan, but things came up that made things more urgent. Neuron quickly adapted and got things done.

Are there any areas they could improve?

It was hard to keep up with what reviews we still needed to do at a certain point versus what Neuron was editing. We had a lot of loose threads and decisions to come back to.

It would've been helpful if the team had a tracking system to let us know how at risk we were of completing everything we wanted to complete by the end of the project schedule. An ongoing visibility system of the sprint schedules and the project's progress to stay on track would've been excellent.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Spend time before the project begins to document your system definitions for different user types and experiences. Expect to spend a lot of time to get the most out of the design project. Neuron can only help so much, but you must also be engaged.

We were trying to recreate our UX and modernize our platform. We wanted to bring it to the latest look and feel.

We talked Neuron through what we were looking for and explained the different personas our product had. We gave Neuron access to the product and walked them through how it would be used. The team played with the product and developed a complete redesign and design system, delivering the final output in Figma.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We were really impressed with the design system delivered by Neuron. The speed to market was very critical for us because we’re a product company, and customers were complaining about our UX design. We wanted a quick turnaround, and Neuron did a fabulous job. Additionally, Neuron took minimal of our time, which was significant because we didn't need to spend much time with the team to make the project happen, showcasing Neuron's amount of experience in creating this kind of design system. 

Neuron's work quality also showcased their experience because they knew what they were doing and demonstrated their professionalism from beginning to end. The team has good people, and I had no issues working with them. Starting from their leader, Ryan, and going through the chain of teammates, all came together very well to deliver the product in a short period of time and create value. 

How did Neuron perform from a project management standpoint?

Neuron didn't take too much of our time and met the aggressive deadline we gave them of six weeks. The team was able to get the input they needed. Neuron was proactive in our Zoom meetings and then returned with the output. We didn't spend too much time with the team, and they understood our system, our target market, and our user personas, which was the reason they could complete the project in such a short period of time.

Are there any employees from the service provider's team that you would like to give a shout-out to in this review?

Mark was exceptional. He was outstanding in the way he coordinated the entire project. He presented the project's output and drove us through the process. Mark was always there to support us while we implemented the design and answered our questions.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Our chemistry with Neuron was impressive and mattered to us; that was everything to the project's success. Neuron was very meticulous in fulfilling the scope of work. The team had the perfect combination of experience, work and output quality, and speed.

I can't think of anything Neuron could improve—they did everything they said they would.

Making a product work is a two-way street. If you give them the correct input and walk them through the details, you can get something done with them.

I'm the head of product at a nonprofit association whose mandate is to promote the development of the polymer ecosystem and other Web3 technologies. I work in the capacity of assisting with product development.

We needed help with the overall UX of our onboarding flow. We didn't have the in-house capability to create UX for blockchain and Web3 technologies and wanted to rely on the expertise of an external service provider.

Initially, we had a brief contract negotiation with Neuron and the scoping process. Once the contract was signed, we had a kick-off session, and Neuron helped validate the user personas we already had, which were 1–2. This was a very small scoped project by design, and the team used Figma.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We're currently implementing Neuron's changes and expect to go live in a month. I was very pleased with Neuron's thoroughness in approaching the work. The team conducted a detailed analysis of our current onboarding flow across all devices and channels of web and mobile browsers on different systems. 

Neuron ensured that the entire end-to-end onboarding flow was considered when making the design recommendations without leaving empty journeys. The team considered every angle of our user journey, and there was a logical next step for all users entering the onboarding flow. We were happy with the result.

How did Neuron perform from a project management standpoint?

Neuron delivered work on time and on budget. The team provided regular updates via Slack, and we also had Zoom calls every 2–3 weeks to review progress and ensure work was completed on time and on budget.
Are there any employees from the service provider's team that you would like to give a shout-out to in this review?

I want to shout out Mark and Ika's work. They did a fantastic job and were easy to work with. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

Neuron had a very good grasp of UX patterns in general. Our project had a tight scope and didn't require large studies or discovery. Onboarding is a very well-known process, and Neuron applied the principles they had experienced to our unique situation. Neuron's understanding of common UX patterns and how to implement those learnings in a new setting for our ecosystem was their biggest strength. The team implemented good UX practices within our constraints for this Web3 project.

Are there any areas they could improve?

I can't think of anything Neuron could improve. 

Do you have any advice for future clients of theirs?

First and foremost, I recommend having a teammate within your company who can work with Figma because it's the tool of choice for many UX professionals. You'll get the most value if you use or can navigate the tool Neuron is most comfortable with. My second recommendation is to have a clear understanding of your goal. Be very specific about the outcome that you'd like to achieve instead of describing general problems.

I’m the VP of Global Digital for Enstall. Our company produces and sells mounting systems for solar installations, which are the systems that put solar panels on roofs. We’re active in the US and Europe with various business units and a mother company that must be aligned.

I’m responsible for all digital services provided to solar installers to help them do their work.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with Neuron?

We wanted to make installers’ lives easier through our digital services. We aimed to launch a new digital platform that would help installers manage all the phases of a solar project, including design, sales, and installation.

Although we were a scalable, international organization, we weren’t very digital-savvy. We had to quickly learn how to go through a digital transition because we were also rebranding the mother company and digital propositions. Additionally, many stakeholders were integrating partner services into our own service, so we had a highly fragmented and complex landscape.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Neuron has designed our new digital platform for solar installers from scratch using Figma. They’ve researched and analyzed the competitive landscape to understand the tools installers use today and how we could combine or improve those. 

Initially, we provided Neuron with a bigger vision of providing integrated services for solar installers and a high-level digital strategy. However, Neuron still had to prove the concept and define the user journeys and rollout strategy.

We work with two key people, but we’ve been up to five teammates during busy periods.

How did you come to work with Neuron?

I searched on Google for a UI/UX design boutique agency in the Bay area because one of our primary business units is located there. After I found them, I read their reviews on Clutch.

We’ve spent between $500,000–$1 million.

What is the status of this engagement?

We began working with them in January 2023, and our relationship is ongoing. However, the engagement is almost finished because we launched the big project in April 2024.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We don’t know the business results yet because we just launched, but the first signals are great. The installer community has received the project well, so Neuron’s results have been excellent.

Moreover, Neuron did a brilliant job of understanding all the participants and keeping track of every detail of the services. The team always saw the whole picture and was on top of things. Sometimes we lost the overview, but they always kept it in sight. Overall, the project was not just about launching the service for installers but designing the whole platform, the new brand, and its design system while working with parties in Europe and the US, so their work was impressive.

How did Neuron perform from a project management standpoint?

They’re the type of supplier that sometimes makes you feel guilty because you don’t perform as well as they do. Neuron always keeps their word and delivers on time, so they lead by example.

Are there any employees from the service provider's team that you would like to give a shout-out to in this review?

Matt (UX Lead & Creative Director) and Michelle (UX Lead) have been instrumental. They’ve really understood our company, market, and most of all, our customers. They needed to know the customers’ pain points and needs to address them, which meant understanding their lives, which is quite complex. Overall, they’ve done an excellent job understanding the customers and stakeholders in our company.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Their dedication is impressive. Neuron is truly part of our team; they don’t feel like an outside agency delivering an assignment. They’re always on top of things, working with the developers, and ensuring it’s easy to implement their work.

Are there any areas they could improve?

I really have to look for something because we’ve been very happy, but sometimes they could be less polite. Sometimes we make mistakes or don’t do things the way we should. Since they’re the experts, they know how it should be done. They speak their minds when we’re about to make mistakes, but they could be more forthcoming sometimes. However, it could be cultural because we’re based in Amsterdam, and they’re in the US.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

You can move faster if you’re well prepared. In our case, we weren’t ready, so we hired Neuron; they helped us develop our own strategy. 

If you don’t know what you need to do, they’re also available to help. Initially, we were skeptical about their discovery phase because we felt we already knew what we wanted. However, having Neuron spend time to do a thorough analysis really paid off. Giving them the time to get an in-depth understanding of your customers, processes, and industry will pay off later on because they’ll be able to have that as a reference.

We hired Neuron to redesign our applications and create a design system. They completely redesigned our customer-facing application and made many suggestions. They came up with a new design system and modified the user flow in certain places to ensure the customers had the best experience while they worked through our apps.

I searched on Google and looked them up on Clutch; I saw they had excellent reviews. I read the reviews and contacted the top five design agencies on Clutch. After reviewing all of them and seeing their portfolios, I decided to go with Neuron.

We signed the contract in May 2023, and the project ended in July 2023.

We’re still working on the implementation, so we haven’t implemented the design. However, their designers were great at engaging with us and understanding the design systems and user flows to create the best UX. Neuron’s designs were high quality, and every design decision had a logical sense.

How did Neuron perform from a project management standpoint?

We were really satisfied with the project’s timeliness. Neuron worked through all the items and accomplished them on time. They were also able to stay within the budget.

We mainly communicated via Slack, emails, and Zoom. We had weekly reviews of the designs through scheduled meetings. If they needed to discuss something before the design review, the team would reach back, and we’d give them feedback or insight into the process.

I recommend providing as much documentation upfront for your project as you can. When we started working with Neuron, they had already reviewed the documentation, which helped us start from a different position.
