What was the scope of their involvement?

We had a lot of unorganized data in Excel workflows, and a lot of our reports revolve around sales and performance composition. NeenOpal helped us structure and classify our data by product or brand and by region to see which had a healthy performance and which ones were risky. 

NeenOpal also analyzed the data and introduced an automated classification process. Later on, we asked them to develop an analytics dashboard that could enable us to gather insight from the data. After implementing the design, they conducted quality checks and continued to propose ways to enhance the system.

NeenOpal has accomplished in a few days what we expected would take 1–2 weeks. They’ve helped us organize, manage, and analyze a large amount of data. Now, we have a dashboard and a better overview of the performance of our products. 

How did NeenOpal Inc. perform from a project management standpoint?

I give them scattered tasks, but they make sure to send a monthly report on what they’ve done. We connect three times a week and communicate via Teams meetings.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They deliver things speedily. It isn’t difficult for us to explain our requirements because they already have great commercial understanding and technical skills.

For what projects/services did your company hire NeenOpal Inc.?

We originally hired NeenOpal to provide a detailed tech development roadmap for our product, which he did with speed, accuracy and dedication to spending time with us to really understand the scope of the work we required. They completed it on-time.

The designs they came up with were beautiful and included all of the detail we required. We had spent over 6 months with a different tech developer who was unable to complete our prototype. We hired NeenOpal to fix all of the bugs and inaccuracies, so that we could launch our product. What our other developer could not fix in 6 months, NeenOpal fixed in 2 weeks, as they projected.

What were your goals for this project?

1. Complete initial automation so that we can launch our prototype.
2. Develop a detailed roadmap of our tech development and an accurate projection of costs so that we can plan for this.

How did you select this vendor?

We interviewed several tech developers, both word of mouth, referral, and through upwork.com. We have worked with 3 others in the past since developing our startup. We found that NeenOpal not only listened, but gave us feedback and had a clear direction for our project and realistic and fair cost estimates.

Other developers we spoke with seemed vague about the possibilities.and with unrealistic cost estimates, both too low or too high. It was also important to us that NeenOpal has a whole team that works together. The two founders: Principal Researcher and COO made the decision to hire NeenOpal.

Describe the project and the services they provided in detail.

NeenOpal strategized with us to architect our future scalable web-based application. They also fixed numerous mistakes on our prototype that our prototype developer could not do.

This included consolidating the 3-4 coded languages the previous developer used into one language, automating from assessment to results through our dashboard, setting up emails to generate as required, and making sure that our report, which was based on 20,000 algorithms, lined up properly with the automation results, so that it was accurate and delivered to our users in a timely manner. We will begin phase one of our new web-based application shortly.

This is important because our current prototype is only as reliable as the original developer, and does not allow for any updates or changes, which are required in our assessment tool on a continual basis. This project will involve: replicating as-Is functionality of the existing product with improved design of the admin interface, creating wireframe design of the final product, and in phase two: building a custom survey functionality, enhancing the existing functionality of the super admin and admin portal, and enhancing reporting capabilities.

We worked with one leader on these projects, however, it was clear that he used a whole team to get our job done. His team includes not only the tech developers and designers, but also the graphic designers.

Can you share any information that demonstrates the impact that this project has had on your business?

We will now be able to launch our prototype, so we have the opportunity to grow our startup. HIs prices are affordable so we feel we can go ahead and complete our full project.

How was project management arranged and how effective was it?

We worked with one leader, Himanshu, on these projects, however, it was clear that he organized his team effectively to get our job done by the date promised us.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

We are excited to work with NeenOpal in our large scalable tech development for the following reasons:

We have a set of email "races" that we send out to our healthcare professional email list where participants compete for rewards related to our live/on-site events. We brought in NeenOpal to develop a dashboard/leader-board to track who is winning between our different audience segments. They built a database that they linked to mailchimp, calculated the point totals, and displayed in Tableau.

For NeenOpal to make it easy for us to pull leader information so we could report to our audiences on a weekly basis to increase audience engagement.

We searched within the WeWork network and connected.

NeenOpal built a SQL database that they linked to mailchimp, and calculated the point totals/ranking that would be stored in that databse. This information was connected to a Tableau dashboard so we can pull the top-10 leaderboard for each race and by different audience sgements.

Can you share any information that demonstrates the impact that this project has had on your business?

The project successfully saved us a lot of time each week in reporting results. Getting results used to be a highly manual, multi-hr process and now I can grab leader-board results in seconds.

How was project management arranged and how effective was it?

This was a simple project, so we worked with one point of contact and it was very effective.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

They are incredibly responsive and can move quick. Very high-touch.

Are there any areas for improvement?

They have great excellent service, though sometimes not respecting that we are also working on other things at the same time. We really liked having the high-touch contact, but when we say we can't focus on the project for a day, that was not always respected. But this is incredibly minor and we look forward to continuing working with NeenOpal

I am the CEO of a research-based pharmaceutical company in India. We have a team size of about 1000 people. We're in the business of pharmaceutical drug research, manufacturing and distribution in India and across 80+ countries around the world.

We wanted to implement a business intelligence platform to streamline internal reporting and assist with faster decision making.

The key challenge around the implementation of a off the shelf BI product was that the ERP in the company was custom built to serve the specific needs of the company and so a platform-ready API access wasn't available.

Besides, the internal MIS reporting wasn't adequately tracking all important KPIs and decision making was stagnating due to lack of access to real time data.

What were your goals for this project?

Our key goals were to create an ecosystem that thrives on real time data. In order to do so, we split the project in parts each with a tangible outcome.

1. The first step was data gathering and creating a data warehouse or "a single source of truth".
2. The next step was to understand the requirements of each department and key individuals and creating custom dashboards.
3. The third and ongoing step is to diligently transfer the knowledge associated with the first 2 steps to chosen individuals in the company to enable deeper data insights.

SOLUTION

How did you select this vendor?

The NeenOpal team reached out to me on LinkedIn. In their pitch deck, I saw a well qualified team of young engineers who had a working knowledge of nearly all BI platforms available.

In addition to my bias towards startups, what caught my attention in particular was that their team had done projects on Tableau. Being an avid Tableau user myself, we did a couple rounds of discussion and then decided to go forward with them as a test.

Describe the project in detail.

The project began with the team setting up various meetings with relevant stakeholders in the organisation, understanding the current data consumption patterns, reporting requirements and KPIs.

Once all (most) requirements were gathered, a priority list of department -specific dashboards were laid down, with more emphasis on sales-based teams since their data requirement was the highest.

A team of two people, led by one of the co-founders - Nished Singhal, worked on the project. Although they were based offsite, they ensured that they get ample one-on-one time with the concerned stakeholders to ensure a high quality of output.

We set a modest target of rolling out 4 dashboards a month at the start but soon after the initial dashboards were rolled out, the project picked up pace and in no time the team had covered nearly all dashboards planned for the first phase of the rollout (around 25). These encompass various areas of the business, including purchase, sales, logistics, marketing, human resources, among others.

The team was comprised of 2 people who worked full-time on the project and a backend team for ad hoc support. The NeenOpal team were very flexible with adding resources as they felt they were lagging behind with the timelines.

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

The learning curve with BI projects can be steep and the onboarding of the relevant stakeholders is crucial. In our case, this was done skilfully by the team by ensuring they maintain a very close dialogue with the intended users and get constant feedback.

The team displayed a lot of patience and great temperament in dealing with the staff, understanding their queries and accommodating last minute requests to otherwise finalised dashboards. This was perhaps the single largest factor that contributed to the success of our BI implementation project.

As for project related outcomes, BI implementation using Tableau brought about a significant reduction in man-hours spent on MIS reporting. It further created a healthy environment for data-driven discussions and insights that spur curiosity.

The feedback from the team has been really positive, and we are already looking forward to the second and third phase of the project.

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

Their team was organised from the first day. A reporting mechanism was established to ensure everyone was on the same page and dedicated project managers were allocated from the company to assist the team in setting up meetings with the concerned departments and helping out with other data gathering exercises. A weekly report with the status of all open, proposed, WIP and completed dashboards was submitted to the management.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

I like that the team is incredibly hard-working, talented, and good with people. In addition to that, I like that they brought new ideas to the table in almost all meetings I have had with them. Some of these ideas have changed our MIS reporting and together we've built further on those ideas to find more meaningful insights.

Although this was their first project in the pharmaceutical space, their prior experience in the FMCG sector led to some new interesting cross-domain expertise to flow into our outlook of business which added a new perspective to view things.

Business challenges are largely sector-agnostic and ultimately focus on improving productivity of resources. We've benefitted by viewing some complex business problems from a different perspective and remaining open to new ideas from the team to help tackle it.

Things can always be done better and faster the second time but for the first time there really aren't any complaints.

I’m the CTO of The Healthy Mummy Pvt. Ltd, a fitness program for moms. Our offerings also include physical products like smoothies and supplements.

Our goal is more than just losing weight. We want to help our users be fit and active so they can support their family. Instead of having a physical store, we sell all of our products and digital fitness programs online via our app and website.

We were looking for a partner who could help us build a data lake and manage reporting. As a startup, we needed a vendor who could be flexible about the requirements.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

NeenOpal Intelligent Solutions Pvt. Ltd. developed a data lake from scratch. It connects to all of our operational LAN inventory systems and has built-in BI reporting on top. We used WooCommerce as our e-commerce system. 

The team built distinct APIs to gather data from specific systems. Some of them are batch APIs, which run from every few minutes to hourly. Azure has ready-made connectors for a lot of systems, but we needed to modify them in some cases due to insufficient data. 

I didn’t want reporting to be on an operation system, so they had to take all the data out of the operational system and bring it into the data lake to start building.

From time to time, they helped us with other requirements in campaign management and business analysis. They also provide actual analysis when we need it.

What is the team composition?

Depending on our needs, NeenOpal Intelligent Solutions Pvt. Ltd. has allocated between 2-3 and up to 5-6 different people to our project. The CEO and chief strategy officer (CSO) helped us look over our financial reporting because they specialize in that area. Otherwise, I work with the business analysis team. 

We’ve had the most interaction with the full-time data analyst they assigned us for our current ongoing work. This person works as a part of our internal team, so we interface directly. Additional resources support us from time to time. We go through a single point of contact to get in touch with the rest of the team.

How did you come to work with NeenOpal Intelligent Solutions Pvt. Ltd.?

We did an online search for possible partners. We chose them because they were pretty flexible since we didn’t necessarily have very clear requirements to start with. They were the ones who understood our requirements the best.

We’ve spent about $200,000 so far. We pay them on a cost per exercise basis, so the price can go up or down every month.

What is the status of this engagement?

We’ve been working together since June 2018. Our engagement is ongoing.

The team’s analysis typically shows high numerical accuracy. Data analysis is a strong skill set of theirs. We’ve had a very nice experience with them. 

Our management is really happy that they attain the key KPIs needed on a regular basis to run our business. They help keep orders coming into their inboxes.

NeenOpal Intelligent Solutions Pvt. Ltd.’s team members work as an extension of our own team. The time zone difference between us works really well because our evening or afternoon aligns with when they start working. We pass any data or analysis queries we have onto their team, and they complete the work before we come to the office the next day.

When we were running the data lake, we had a single point of contact from their side who provided regular updates. They kept us aware of any risks they saw that could potentially extend the timeline. 

Since we were integrating third-party systems, there were sometimes dependent on the other party to perform their work. Whenever issues arose in that regard, they kept us up to date.

We have frequent communication to look over the account and talk about how we can make progress. We use email, Slack, Jira, and Confluence. If a data pipeline is broken or isn’t working, they have an alert system set up. They are quick to solve any problems.

What did you find most impressive about them?

NeenOpal Intelligent Solutions Pvt. Ltd. performed an excellent analysis of the requirements. They always make sure to look beyond the requirements that we give them. Offering their own ideas, they consider what would be best for our business based on their prior experience.
