We teamed up with Modulo as the digital partner for our architectural consultancy firm. Their work spanned multiple fronts – they designed and developed a new marketing website that reflects our brand’s modern and creative identity, ensuring a seamless user experience across all devices.

Additionally, Modulo modernised our internal enterprise app – a critical tool that consolidates project management, design collaboration, and client communications – by enhancing its functionality and user interface. Beyond these development projects, Modulo provided invaluable digital strategy consulting, guiding us on the optimal approach for key building projects and ensuring our digital initiatives support the objectives of our client base.

Since launching these initiatives, the measurable outcomes have been very encouraging:

We’ve observed a noticeable increase in website traffic and user engagement, with more inquiries coming through as our online presence has been significantly enhanced.
The upgraded app has streamlined internal processes, reducing turnaround times on projects and better collaboration among teams.

Modulo’s project management was both proactive and transparent. They maintained clear communication through regular updates and status meetings, ensuring we were always informed of progress.

When project requirements evolved, Modulo was flexible and agile, quickly adapting to changes without compromising quality. Although some timeline adjustments were necessary due to new requirements, their responsiveness and collaborative approach ensured that every deliverable was on schedule and to our satisfaction.

While our overall experience was highly positive, there were moments when project timelines needed adjustments as new requirements emerged. In future collaborations, a bit more upfront alignment on the digital strategy might help streamline the process further.

Nonetheless, Modulo’s prompt communication and adaptability ensured that these minor delays were managed effectively, without detracting from the quality or success of the final outcomes.

Our company is a response to the growing need for a more efficient and transparent outsourcing model for UK accountants. Our online portal connects accountants directly with outsourced professionals, making the process easier, faster, more effective, and more economical. Our company empowers accountants with the tools and features that put them in control, ensuring that external resources are managed with the same efficacy and transparency as internal ones. 

We employed Modulo as digital product specialists to research and plan the product, build the portal web application, develop the marketing site, and to play their role in taking the product to market:

• Modulo held in-person meetings with us to kick off the project and discuss requirements. 
• They researched competitors in the same market and the needs of accountants in the industry. 
• This led to a product specification document being produced which detailed all of the necessary features for the product and how they would be delivered.
• Based on the specification a design was produced for the UI which both expressed our brand and took into account the UX of the application to ensure an optimal experience for users.
• For development of the portal web app, the database was set up using PostgreSQL, the back end, authentication, and API were built using Python Django, and the front end web application was built using SvelteKit. The marketing site was built using Astro and implemented the designs and copy provided.
• The product was launched at Accountex 2024 and Modulo was in attendance for the whole event and gave demonstrations to customers at the stall. 
• They were able to answer technical queries and also aid with business development given their understanding of the product.

• We now have a fully functioning product, marketing site, and are on the other side of a successful product launch. 
• We have seen traffic to the website grow steadily and are pursuing multiple leads from the Accountex launch event.
• The web application is stable and functional and delivers to the product specification, supporting the business objectives. 
• The marketing website scores 100 across all of Google’s Lighthouse tests.
• The website has excellent performance and SEO.
• Prospective customers have reacted positively to the portal.
• When some customers have asked for features or changes Modulo have been quick to implement these to encourage business growth.

Describe their project management. Did they deliver items on time? How did they respond to your needs?

• As the project evolved the initial schedule needed to change and we required Modulo to adapt.
• Modulo is also be flexible in their roles, such as engaging with third parties to research the needs of the business and validate the product proposal.
• Modulo kept a Kanban board and practiced project management to keep things running smoothly at their end. 
• They regularly presented us with updates and demonstrations as the product developed. 
• They took our feedback on board and built this into the product lifecycle by implementing feature requests that deviated from the initial proposal, such as a time tracking system.
• In the run up to and during the product launch there was a flurry of activity and Modulo were right in the heart of this. 
• They stepped up to each challenge they were presented with.
• They delivered quality work in a timely manner in spite of external factors and a few late nights!

While Modulo demonstrated flexibility and adaptability, the project’s schedule did require adjustments. This required ongoing coordination between our teams, which occasionally led to some stress during critical phases, such as the product launch. 

However, Modulo’s ability to respond swiftly to these changes and their dedication to delivering quality work, even under pressure, was impressive. Their commitment to adapting to our evolving needs ultimately contributed to the successful launch and positive reception of our platform. Modulo Studio's flexibility ensured that we received a product that not only met but exceeded our expectations. This reflected their deep understanding of our business goals.

At Friday Fun we have been sharing jokes, funnies and memes since 1996 and since 2018 have had an online presence at friday-fun.com where our regular posts keep the fun flowing! Besides our regular visitors, the website acts as a landing spot for users coming from across the web and social media platforms where they might have found a Friday Fun joke.

The friday-fun.com site was built using WordPress and recently started falling apart as themes and plugins became outdated and broken beyond repair. We wanted a new, modern website that would be a pleasant experience for people to use. 

We approached Modulo and they presented us with the option of a purpose built web application to create, manage, and display our content. This web app could then be extended in the future to provide a feature rich experience and tap into the potential of traffic coming to the site. The web app they built uses Supabase for the back end and database and SvelteKit for the front end and UI. They also use Cloudflare for all traffic coming to and from the site. 

There were a number of key deliverables for this project:

• Design and build an updated website providing a fun experience
• Improve site performance, accessibility, search engine optimisation, and ensure best practices are followed (aiming for all high scores in Google Lighthouse)
• Provide users a simple way to search for funnies by theme/keyword
• Include more avenues for monetization such as the Buy Me A Coffee link
• An Admin area to manage posts
• Migrate all existing data
• Move to fridayfun.lol
• Route traffic appropriately to the new website

Happy to say these have all been delivered to our complete satisfaction.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What were the measurable outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

• We now have a new, modern, functional website with a purpose built admin area for managing all of our posts. 
• Over 4,000 of our historic posts were successfully migrated and we are working on bringing across any remaining data that was in a different format. 
• We have plenty of plans for further development!
• We’ve found that performance is markedly improved and the whole site feels cleaner and well built. 
• The scores on Google Lighthouse are all 90 to 100 and we’re really pleased with this.
• Traffic from the old site and from other sources is gradually improving and we’re analyzing this using Google Analytics and Search Console.

Describe their project management. Did they deliver items on time? How did they respond to your needs?

• Modulo put a Kanban board in place early on in the project and we were encouraged to work together reviewing and commenting on items there. We found that this worked really well and kept everything transparent and moving along nicely. 
• There were some delays due to new requirements cropping up and some of the technical challenges faced but the developer we worked with took the time to explain the situation and always worked toward a resolution that we were happy with. 
• Everything was done to our specifications and we were always consulted on every major decision taken.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

Everything was explained clearly and carefully. The team was open about the work and pros and cons of all approaches. We felt confident that the developer knew what they were doing and that it was all being done in our best interest. Tom - the developer we worked with - was always really pleasant to speak to and managed the work himself, so we developed a great relationship and it was a breath of fresh air to speak to the person actually doing the work. 

We particularly appreciated being added to the tracking tool so we could see all sub projects, their status and allowed us to communicate directly on each one, if needed to ensure we were 100% in sync. This provided total visibility of progress and ensured full confidence in the work and the project, which launched on time and exactly as planned.  

Are there any areas for improvement or something Modulo Studio could have done differently?

It took a little longer than expected and some back and forth to get the design right, largely down to the unique character of the site and wanting something a bit more creative and whimsical. There were also some delays in works being completed, although nothing major. We found a few bugs early on in our testing but these were fixed promptly and are a natural part of the process!
