I'm the founder and CTO of Retirable, a financial services company. We provide holistic retirement planning solutions, combining personalized financial guidance with products and services for investing, planning, and spending, to help clients plan for a worry-free retirement.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with MeteorOps?

As a lean team in a regulated industry, we needed a trusted partner to migrate our production infrastructure to Google Cloud Platform (GCP), strengthen our security posture, and move from manual, console-based operations to agent-ready infrastructure as code (IaC). We wanted to level up our infosec practice without pulling our engineers away from our core mission.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

MeteorOps migrated all of our production infrastructure to GCP and established infrastructure as code with Terragrunt. They improved our business continuity and disaster recovery (BCDR) with improved automated failover and backups, wrote the Terraform modules, configured networking, and managed the backup automation. They operate as an extension of our platform team.

The engagement is ongoing. We've chosen to continue because MeteorOps is a high-leverage addition to our team, much like a platform team add-on. It lets us level up our infosec practice and keep the internal team focused on our core mission.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

All of our cloud infrastructure is now documented and managed as infrastructure as code, with approval gates that match our compliance policies. We've moved our hosting to GCP with failover and security hardening, and we passed our most recent SOC 2 and penetration testing audits in September 2026. We haven't experienced any downtime since the migration. Operational efficiency has improved because every infrastructure change now has a clear approval, audit trail, and automated testing

How did MeteorOps perform from a project management standpoint?

MeteorOps's project management has been strong. We stay aligned through regular virtual meetings on a weekly cadence, and the working relationship has been collaborative and professional.

What did you find most impressive about them?

What impressed us most is MeteorOps's focus on building systems our team can own and operate over time: clear documentation, operational simplicity, and a foundation of best practices. They've been a true force multiplier, letting us raise our infosec practice while our engineers focus on our core mission.

Are there any areas they could improve?

Early in the engagement, issue tracking was less structured, so it was harder to see what the team was working on between weekly meetings. Adopting a shared tracker sooner, either ours or a GitHub Issues workflow, would have improved visibility. This is a minor process point rather than a concern about the quality of the work.

• Goal: Separate the dev, staging and prod accounts, while implementing high-availability, disaster recovery, and security measurements.
• Considerations:
  • There’s an ongoing independent migration from Elastic Beanstalk to EKS
  • Some resources were created with Terragrunt (accounts), some with Terraform, and some with Serverless / Cloudformation
• Strategy:
  • The existing joint account will become strictly production
  • Other environments will be created in separate accounts
  • Fill in the Terraform code to create a separate fully-functional DEV environment
    • With each resource, run `plan` against production and import existing resources until it shows no changes (while maintaining production’s resources naming conventions and structure)

MeteorOps helped deploy our various application environments in GCP using Terraform. They implemented a CI/CD pipeline using GitHub actions. They set up VPCs and other auth and security mechanisms as part of these deployments to prepare us for compliance.

MeteorOps has audited our SRE/DevOps culture. The team has also migrated our team to use Terraform in IAM and resource management. Currently, MeteorOps is helping us plan our ECS migration.

We’ve seen process efficiency improvements. We’ve also unblocked many engineers from having to use SSH to access EC2 and can now self-serve on the AWS platform. We’ve gone from 0 to 20 engineers who can self-serve on AWS.
