I’m the business program lead at Kyivstar, a telecommunications company. We’re Ukraine’s leading electronic communications operator, serving approximately 22 million mobile subscribers and over 1.2 million fixed-line subscribers.

What specific goals or objectives did you hire MEF.DEV to accomplish for Kyivstar?

We needed help managing the billing process for our business clients with convenient and flexible options for creating custom settings. We also needed help with system reliability and easy additional configuration options for client profiles, algorithms, and the principles governing the generation of billing programs.

What was the scope of their involvement?

MEF.DEV has helped us with a robust project starting from phase 0. The team has created a customer form, integrated it with other data sources, and developed a complex billing logic. The system has a reliable operation and the ability to proceed in stages, from simple to complex functionality.

What challenge were you trying to address with NATEC R&D?

We needed help creating a new billing ecosystem.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

NATEC R&D helped us create a new billing ecosystem. It facilitates charging for different services and billing to our subscribers. They also added online charging capabilities and integrated their system with our third-party solutions.

What is the team composition?

We work with 15 people from their team. The customer-facing team was three people.

How much have you invested with them?

We’ve spent $500,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working together in March 2019, and we wrapped up in May 2021.  

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

We’ve successfully launched the migration for our subscribers. They were very quick with the development, usability testing, and acceptance testing phases. We didn’t lose any revenue or subscribers during this migration.

They’re reactive, flexible, and ready to accept a lot of changes in the project. The team was also forward-thinking in their willingness to solve future issues. Overall, it was a great experience. Our turnaround time went from months to weeks.

How did NATEC R&D perform from a project management standpoint?

Everything was quite well organized. In the beginning, we had some issues building efficient communication. We used Jira for tickets and a solution architecture tool.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Their ability to adapt to new requirements stands out. They have a flexible system that allows them to make changes in an efficient way. This project felt like trying to shoot a moving target in a lot of ways. NATEC R&D was able to accommodate all of the changes well.

Are there any areas they could improve?

The biggest issue for them is scalability. On the one hand, they have a scalable product. On the other, they have limited experience with heavily loaded systems.

They were able to change the technologies that weren’t meeting our capacity requirements. The team was able to resolve all of these capacity issues without any impact on the timeline or budget.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

The best advice is to openly discuss challenges. They’re really invested in developing the best solution for you. The more they know about your goals, the more efficient the solution they’ll be able to provide.

I managed the whole Telecom division operating the bank convergent voice network for 28 branches in Ukraine.

For what projects/services did your company hire NATEC, and what were your goals?

The primary purpose for the NATEC team was to implement a solution for handling source data from geographically distributed voice network of bank, including bills information from a variety of communication service providers in different cities, as mobile as fixed services

SOLUTION

How did you select this vendor and what were the deciding factors?

We handled vendor selection according to the bank procurement procedure based on the minimal total cost ownership (TCO) criteria.

The project was divided into three main steps - the initial setup covering the CISCO VoIP network, the second step was expanding the project to support three mobile provider sources (Kyivstar, Vodafone, and Life), and the final step including fixed providers, namely Ukrtelecom regional entities.

The NATEC was dedicated to us four engineers with different experiences, namely the mediation, database storage, and web application

Can you share any measurable outcomes of the project or general feedback about the deliverables?

The primary goal was fully covered from the project's first step, and we got the central convergent bank storage for analysis of the usage of all types of telecom services. The additional outcome was the possibility of Telecom expanse management within the bank org-structure to cutting expenses on some non-business oriented services

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

Essential to emphasize the Agile approach in the solution rollout – we didn't provide the vendor with all the requirements, but they managed to do the project well.

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

One improvement point is the project technical documentation coverage, oriented to bank standards, but it can be chalked up to the shortest project delivery time.
