I’m the founder and CEO of an IT company that specializes in IT systems for the shipping industry. We provide ERP systems, financial calculations, and accounting for those companies.

What challenge were you trying to address with LeverageUX Design Agency?

We wanted to improve the UI design elements of our B2B systems, specifically a heavy desktop application. We mainly provided desktop systems but started to move into the digital space. We wanted fresh eyes and ideas for the UI/UX design elements involved in this transition.

What was the scope of their involvement?

LeverageUX helped to design our system’s UI. They created a responsive design, which allows the system to work on all devices. Their team provided the desktop and mobile UI designs for different devices upon my request. They didn’t create in-between screens because that involved the outer ends of the spectrum.

I first spoke with their management team. After we made the agreement, we primarily worked with one designer.

I searched for a design company with a modern approach and experience in the financial space because our application had a financial component. LeverageUX had fintech experience and fit.

We started the project in February 2020 and finished it in March.

It was a smooth and efficient engagement. There wasn’t a delay.

We appreciated their can-do attitude. If they disagreed with a specific requirement, they explained their thought process. There wasn’t a time when their team didn’t want to work.

Are there any areas they could improve?

The project went as expected. We worked with them on additional projects and our collaboration improved as we began to know each other better.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

When starting a project with an external supplier, it’s important to know exactly what you want. At the start, we weren’t clear on how we wanted to approach this project. LeverageUX helped to clarify the process but it would’ve been better if we studied ourselves beforehand.

We were developing a B2B solution and we needed designers who had experience in dashboarding and understood the complex situation we were trying to solve.

What was the scope of their involvement?

We developed some wireframes ourselves, but LeverageUX Design Agency supported us by ensuring that the wireframes featured UX components that would make sense to our users. They also made sure that we followed the color choice that we developed with our marketing team.

What is the team composition?

We worked with one designer and one project manager, who was also a UX expert. At one point, the project manager was off, so they brought somebody else on board to provide support. We were a bit scared it would change the dynamic of the project but, thankfully, everything went smoothly and it didn’t affect the quality.

I had worked with them when they worked for a different company. We found their prices to be super competitive. The experience they had in their portfolio aligned with what we needed.

The quality of their work is very good. They were really flexible to the changes we had and were really eager to support us.

We’re really satisfied with the project management. They really took our needs into consideration. We had a slight diversion from the timeline but it didn’t affect our project.

We asked them to have regular meetings so we could follow their progress and understand how they considered our challenges. We managed to have a meeting every two days to review the wireframes and mockups.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They really upped their game by considering UX and trying to understand what we were trying to do. Still, they made sure that the product wasn't overloaded with information. They clearly have experience in B2B solutions.

No, I was satisfied with them.

I described the UX/UI requirements for the platform, and they designed them. They did the mockups and used Figma. They came up with the main look and feel of the product. 

We stopped working with them so that we could do the development in-house.

It was a good collaboration. The UX/UI designer was reactive and proposed different solutions. He may have been a little more skilled in design than UI, but overall, it was good. We’re happy with their work.

Project management was good. They were available and easy to communicate with. We did several calls together. I put our feedback in Figma.

The price was good compared to other agencies that were too expensive for a startup. They were able to react quickly, and the communication was good.

The person was more skilled in design than UI.

Provide clear requirements and give them room to provide suggestions that are more out of the box.

We needed someone to design a dashboard for our software.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

LeverageUX did the UI/UX for the dashboard that the brands use on our software. We had some basic wireframes already but they really helped us do a UX audit, and they talked through user journeys to understand how our users would interact with the software. 

The team took the initial wireframes, beautified them, and gave them the look and feel based on everything that we gave them from a branding perspective. They used Figma.

They had a couple of designers and a project manager, who was our main point of contact.

We spoke to at least 20 companies on Upwork and LeverageUX really stood out.

We worked together from March–April 2020. We worked with them for 3–4 weeks.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

LeverageUX took our needs, threw our branding on the product, and made a beautiful and useful piece of UI/UX. They did an amazing job, and they were incredibly patient with us. They walked us through everything and made sure that we weren’t making any mistakes. 

The team made sure everything was top quality. It was a great experience. We had a bad experience with a previous UX designer, but LeverageUX fixed the mess we created before and turned it into something we’re really proud of and really happy with. 

I’ve received positive feedback. It’s a feature-rich piece of software, but the team helped us simplify it. It’s a lot more user-friendly and nicer to use.

How did LeverageUX perform from a project management standpoint?

Their project management was really good, and their project manager was very talented. We appreciated that we had one point of contact. The process and value adds were very clear. Everything we communicated with them was reflected in the designer’s work. 

We didn’t have to repeat anything and nothing ever got missed. Now we use Figma for all our design needs. We had used a few different design tools in the past but Figma really blew us away. Everything was so much easier for us to comment on, react to, and feel like we were part of the process.

What did you find most impressive about them?

The process was very collaborative. We were involved in the scaffolding at every step of the way which isn’t the case with most design firms we’ve worked with.

No, there’s nothing I’d have them improve.

Trust them because they know what they’re doing. Enjoy it and take advantage of being a part of the process.

Zenni is an industry-leading DTC prescription eyeglasses e-commerce company based in Novato, California. My role at Zenni is to oversee the creative and digital product teams while acting as the bridge between customer experience, marketing strategy, and website development.

For what projects/services did your company hire LeverageUX Design Agency?

We brought Leverage UX in on an ongoing retainer basis to keep our backlog of UX requests moving forward. We have continued to work with them because they are a great way to explore new areas of site improvements and they are great to work with.

It's also nice to have a team that works in a completely different time zone because one team can pass things to another and have the work updated when they return the following day.

What were your goals for this project?

They started as additional support, but we leverage their expertise and insights on a weekly basis.

One goal of our continued work is to let their team explore areas that aren't on our immediate roadmap but need more UX research and exploration before becoming company priorities. They serve as design R&D and that has been a nice addition to our team.

How did you select this vendor?

I had worked with Roman (Founder) for a couple of years on some e-commerce, and fintech consulting projects that I needed support on. He was a joy to work with, and since he has scaled a team our relationship has grown to include more help from them as a whole.

I originally found Roman through a post I placed on Guru.com for UX design help, and we ended up working on many projects and clients over the years.

Many successful project have been completed with Leverage UX and our team.

Very effective. Sometimes we struggle to keep the pipeline of projects full, but they are also great at being proactive with suggested areas to explore more.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

The level of design quality is always top-notch.

Are there any areas for improvement?

Communication in video calls could use a little improvement. And the Time overlap only allows us early meeting slots.

We needed to overhaul the UX/UI design of our software solution.

What was the scope of their involvement?

We gave them access to our application so they could give us advice on how to improve the user interface. Through an iterative process, they made proposals and we provided feedback. After coming to a consensus, they did the design layouts for the specific areas we identified. 

They worked on both our mobile and desktop applications. They used Stigma to layout new user interfaces that we brought to our development team. They provided some website development using HTML and CSS as well to create a brochure site for us.

I think the team was between 3–4.

We found eight candidates through UpWork that we put through our selection process. They came out as the best fit for us.

We started working together in February 2020l, and the engagement lasted about a month and a half. We wrapped up in mid-March.

We’re still implementing the design that they provided to us. However, user feedback has been tremendous so far. Everyone loves it.

They performed well. I told them what I thought I needed, and they routinely came back with a solution that was exactly what I was looking for. We used Jira to track the project. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

They were very efficient at getting exactly what we were looking for. The product they provided was better than what I'd pictured.

No. There were a few times they were busy with other projects, but I’m happy with their work overall.

The best advice would be to let them do what they do best. They’ll deliver a high-quality result, but don’t force them into a less than ideal solution.
