I’m the CEO and founder of Searchbloom. We’re an SEM company specializing in SEO and PPC management.

What challenge were you trying to address with LEAF Specialty Tax Consultants?

We brought them on for R&D tax consulting, R&D tax preparation, and R&D tax study. We learned that the R&D tax credit was applicable to our business and could substantially drive us into the six-figure range of tax savings.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Our engagement is pretty fluid. Their team requested our financial information and then worked with our accounting and executive team on allocation and other matters like that. They helped us learn a lot of things that we didn’t know qualified for R&D.

What is the team composition?

We primarily interacted with one point of contact, Adam (Founder). He oversaw everything on his side and worked with several points of contact on our team.

How did you come to work with LEAF Specialty Tax Consultants?

We found them through a recommendation from an internal team member. We chose them because their focus is on R&D tax credits, that’s what they specialize in. Our team was looking for the most experienced specialist in this area, not a generalist.

We looked at three different companies. LEAF, by far, had more experience because they were able to speak to it. It wasn’t even really close.

What is the status of this engagement?

Our ongoing engagement started in January 2020.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
The result was over six figures in tax savings, so we received a very strong return on our investment. The engagement has been seamless. Adam is experienced in educating us on different aspects of R&D tax credits, as well as finding areas in which we can leverage the R&D tax credits. He is one of the best tax consultants we’ve ever dealt with.

How did LEAF Specialty Tax Consultants perform from a project management standpoint?

Initially, communication was on a weekly or biweekly basis. Their team did their work, and we reviewed their studies, documentation, and recommendations for our tax CPA. Now, communication is once a month, maybe less.

What did you find most impressive about them?

LEAF is a phenomenal company. Their people are easy to work with, and they provide an incredible service that saves us tons of money in R&D tax credits.

Are there any areas they could improve?

No, they did incredibly. They’re a fantastic partner to work with. They provided a lot of insight not just into their expertise and specialty, but on other things that our internal accountant and tax CPA could do to better our tax liability.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Reach out to them so you can start the wheel to get moving. Without having a decade of experience in tax, specifically R&D credits, you’re not going to know what it is and how to do it. Let the pros tell you what to do and what to provide because it’s a lot of information you don’t need to learn as a business owner.
