They established campaigns aimed at specific buyer demographics and geographical locations. They monitored the campaigns to ensure we achieved the best return on investment (ROI).

Over the last 3 years Juice has allowed us, as a CBD brand, to advertise on Meta, which in itself was the biggest milestone. Meta still has very strict rules when it comes to being able to advertise CBD, and Juice was innovative and tireless in getting us live, and keeping our ads live. We have never had any other agency be able to do that, and keep the status of our account healthy. They also have increased brand awareness, are a huge contributor to sales, and allow us to reach new audiences.

I'm a co-founder of an e-commerce company

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with JUICE?

After launching our website last year, we were doing well, but our return on ad spend (ROAS) was starting to decline from 5X to around 3X. As a result, we wanted to look for an agency that can help us maintain our ROAS and scale us up through paid social advertising, so we hired them.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

JUICE worked on our paid social campaigns, including Facebook ads and Google ads. 

What is the team composition?

We worked with a strategist that takes care of the day-to-day ads management. We also worked with a more senior strategist that was a new hire and who supposedly should have more experience in the e-commerce industry.

How did you come to work with JUICE?

We saw them via Facebook ads and vetted them. We didn’t sign with them at first because they were a little bit expensive, and we needed to launch our business first.

Then, when our business started to scale in a way that it made sense for us to afford higher fee with the hope for better performance, we hired them. We had a meeting with their salesperson and then their CEO, who set high targets for our ROAS. They claimed they had experience in running ads for e-commerce, and we were convinced that they could help us grow. 

How much have you invested with them?

Over the course of the engagement, we spent around $30,000 for their services. We also paid a little over $5,000 a month, which was around 15% of our total ad spend. 

What is the status of this engagement?

We worked with JUICE from August–December 2020

How did your relationship with the vendor evolve?

Working with JUICE was pleasant, but at the end of the day, we needed to see performance, and it was just not there. They claimed to have the expertise to deliver, but their performance wasn’t good. It wasn't good from the start, and we made a mistake by trusting them when they promised holiday sales in November were going to skyrocket. They also weren’t careful with the budget — they kept scaling up the expenses even though they didn’t hit our targets. We drove into consecutive months of losses, and we didn’t even get close to break even. 

During the holiday period when we had to do well, we did worse than before. We were about to cancel the engagement in October 2020. However, they kept telling us that October was supposed to be a slow month since people were waiting for November. We trusted them then, even though the ROAS was already low.  

We thought we’d bounce back a lot in November, but JUICE spent more while the ROAS continued to go down. In the end, our ROAS was at around 1.3X in November 2020 and declined to 0.9X in December 2020. 

How was project management handled?

Their project management was essentially okay. When the strategist assigned to us seemed to be incompetent, they onboarded a new one. 

On the other hand, we still didn’t see any improvement in performance even though the new strategist was more experienced. We should’ve already seen that as a red flag. 

Is there anything that the vendor did well or that you would consider a strength?

Their communication and reporting skills were good.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Ask for a reference from their previous clients from the same industry. Additionally, while they claim they’re experienced in e-commerce, perhaps, they’re probably more suited for more local types of businesses, such as law firms or medical practices.
