Journi augmented Complaion’s team with a full-stack developer to enhance user authentication capabilities and strengthen system security within their AWS environment. The engagement focused on enabling seamless user login through existing Microsoft work accounts, using SSO technologies and upgrading the authentication infrastructure to improve compatibility, maintainability, and overall security, leveraging new Amazon Cognito v2 features.

Journi partnered with EA Technology for stage 2 of their Laboratory Information Management System which is used by members of EA Technology's oil diagnostics team to manage the lifecycle of oil samples and to generate PDF reports with recommendations from the oil lab. Journi started with Discovery phase, before moving into development with a team of 3 full stack developers.

Kittle Group had already developed an MVP web app that would help with bid planning. The initial version demonstrated the core functionality, but we needed to refine the the central algorithm, build out and enhance the platform with new features and refine the UX/UI. Journi worked really well to pick up and understand how the existing MVP worked, suggesting algorithmic enhancements, off the shelf components that could be integrated to accelerate the development and worked with us to deliver the enhancements.

We were particularly impressed with the way they used us to understand the context of the industry to first identify and then come up with solutions for a myriad of edge cases and interactions we didn't initally consider. They could distill 'the principles' from us really quickly so that they could pre-empt likely solutions for most of these, running them by us for sign off. 

They brought on a UX professional to run through the MVP which flagged some important adjustments we needed to make. They totally altered the UI which made it a lot better visually, but they were happy to suggest and implement changes that went deeper than the cosmetic, helping us think through the user's journey working with the app, seeing where potential pain points were and suggesting a much better more streamlined flow of actions for the user.

Everything was delivered on time from Journi, though we sometimes introduced delays on our end. Journi were very responsive to any enquires. They initiated contact often and kept us up to date with progress continually. They let us knwo when they would need our input in advance so we could input into the project around our existing workload easily.

We were impressed with the quality of the people we interacted with. On the sales side, Jake was really honest and transparent, and you could tell he cared about what was good for our project and not just Journi's billing. On the delivery side, Carlos got his head around the project really quickly, and Journi were able to really pick up, improve and run with an MVP that others had built.

Not that I can think of.

I’m the director of data analytics and software engineering for an oil and gas data analytics company. We provide oil and gas operators with assessments of their assets, production, and well integrity.

What challenge were you trying to address with Journi?

We developed a software product, and some issues needed addressing. We didn’t have in-house personnel with the correct skill set to investigate, so we hired Journi to help us start the work.

What was the scope of their involvement?

We started by making a few phone calls to discuss what the product needed. Then, we provided Journi access to the software so they could familiarize themselves with the source code and the issues we described. We had a few demo sessions where we ran the software ourselves and shared our screen with them. From there, they devised a plan to achieve our objectives within a timeline and at a cost that was suitable for us.

Journi used .NET to develop the software. They offered to do the entire development for us and help us hire internal staff to continue the development. We’re exploring further, but it’ll be a while before we can progress.

We worked with Jake, their sales manager, and Carlos, their CTO. Jake discussed the engagement at the commercial level while Carlos did the technical work.

How did you come to work with Journi?

They found us. Their marketing team reached out to companies that needed software development. We liked our conversations with them. They had a solid understanding of what we needed them to do. They made us comfortable with their established process, which we wanted.

It was worth having a small, confined, and easily measurable project with them to see how the work would go. It wasn’t a huge amount of money to spend to ensure the way they worked, and the quality of the deliverables were adequate for what we wanted.

How much have you invested with them?

We spent £9,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

We worked together from November to December 2023. The actual development time was around two weeks; we had the results by January 2024.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We had very specific goals. We wanted the software's performance to improve by a measurable amount. We needed a 30% improvement in the speed of certain elements and a 50% decrease in the memory used. We had a few KPIs we wanted to achieve, and they were completed.

How did Journi perform from a project management standpoint?

They met our deadlines. We used Jira but didn’t need to put everything in there. We used Slack for daily stand-ups.

The team was very good; they were professional. Carlos was the person with whom the work really happened, and Jake was there in the background, more on the business end of things, to just get the agreements and paperwork in place. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

They were speedy in familiarizing themselves with the product, which was tricky because we were working with something built by someone else. They did a very good job of that. It didn’t take them long to get that familiarity before we started the project in earnest. They were able to suggest some very good technical solutions to get the performance update we needed.

We're looking into doing some more with them.

Are there any areas they could improve?

There’s nothing they could do better. Everything worked well.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Be very clear on what you want to achieve before you start. There are always hundreds of things that can change your direction. Start with a clear picture of what you’re trying to do, and don’t get distracted by other things. Clarity of purpose is more on the buyer than the journey's side.

We worked with Journi from April–October 2024. Journi has launched the app and is working on some updates.

Journi successfully launched a functioning app and was very helpful. I was happy with the project.  

How did Journi perform from a project management standpoint?

Journi stuck to the budget and completed work promptly. The team was helpful on the phone, and we also had weekly Zoom calls and were in constant communication. Journi stayed in touch during the entire project.

Both Jake and Carlos exceeded my expectations.

What did you find most impressive about them?

I've had issues working with previous development companies because they over-promised and didn't deliver. Journi delivered what they promised from the start. The team communicated well and had good developers. I liked that Journi was a smaller firm, and we didn't work with multiple teammates throughout the project.

Are there any areas they could improve?

I can't think of anything Journi could improve.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

I recommend asking Journi to look at your software requirements and make your own decision on how to move forward. I suggest working with smaller businesses and not getting caught up by big companies.

Journi did research and development, evaluating different AI tools and capabilities to build a smart assistant able to understand the internal data structures of Suppeco's main product and leverage those data sources to inform answers and insights. The solution was built in .Net 8 and C# for the backend and VueJS and Typescript for the frontend.

AI capabilities were provided by Microsoft Azure Open AI services and SemanticKernel framework. With these tools we were able to go from zero to having a working MVP that can be released to clients in just a few months, providing Suppeco with valuable new features for their clients.

Journi built a Bespoke CRM for an energy comparison supplier.

Before engaging with Journi, we were using a COTS product, which was limiting in functionality and not meeting the specific business requirements.

Journi developed a bespoke CRM designed to match the exact business requirements of today and, in turn, optimise our business processes. In addition, the application has been architected to perform as a SaaS product.

The application is built with NestJS and NextJS and deployed on the Azure platform.

Journi conducted an audit of the current technical status and progress of my company's novel product development, which was an application. The team performed a gap analysis assessment versus the project suit to a digital roadmap. The application is built on several modules that all interact with each other to deliver different services to the business and customers. Within the core platform there were five key deliverables that were required for a successful launch. 
At the point that Journi took over the project a few of these were completed but still required further work to ensure they were operationally fit for purpose. Each of these deliverables interlinked and were required for the platform to function. This required Journi to really understand our business, which they did.
