What challenge were you trying to address with JMaverick Studios?

We needed to film an educational video that involved a doctor and a speech pathologist. Specifically, we needed to know the best way to produce the video to showcase it in the field.

What was the scope of their involvement?

We had an initial storyboard and reached out to JMaverick to discuss the project on a high level. After answering some questions for them, they provided an estimate and ironed out all the details.

After initially wanting to film at our building, JMaverick advised us that it wouldn’t be possible, so they came up with a last-minute solution in the form of a studio. They provided a way around a lot of roadblocks thanks to their expertise.

They provided all their own equipment, including a director of photography, camera people, a swing person, and an audio person. Their deliverables were the video, b-roll, the on-screen text, closed-captioning, and all post-production.

JMaverick also did a call sheet for the day of the shoot so our people had all the required information. Everything was very organized.

What is the team composition?

Jeremy (Producer) was our main contact, but during the actual shoot, we worked with Shane (Director of Photography). There was also a first assistant camera person, a swing person, and an audio expert.

How did you come to work with JMaverick Studios?

We searched around quite a bit and interviewed a number of production teams, but JMaverick seemed the most responsive and organized. So far, they’ve proven to be the right company to work with.

We spent around $16,000 on this specific project, though the overall amount we’ve invested in their services throughout our relationship is around $150,000.

For this particular project, we worked together from June 2021–August 2021

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

We’ve gotten great feedback on this video from putting it out on social media and viewing it at conventions. Currently, the video is on our microsite, our LinkedIn page, and, soon, will be on our YouTube.

How did JMaverick Studios perform from a project management standpoint?

We were supposed to shoot both at our office and at an office clinic, but the day before we found out that we couldn’t use either space. JMaverick managed to secure us a studio to shoot in the day before without any hiccups. It was a seamless experience.

We typically communicate over email, Zoom, and Teams.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Jeremy helped us deal with all the last-minute issues and provided the call sheet. All our meetings were with him. He’s kind, respectful, and understands our visions.

We’ve dealt with other video production companies that don’t relate to us because they can’t explain their process to someone without their specific knowledge. JMaverick, on the other hand, always includes us and makes us feel comfortable. We continue going back to him because of this.

Have a storyboard that makes sense and is detailed. Using this upfront will help you get the correct guidance from JMaverick, cutting down on the necessary back and forth.

We started with a meeting to share the project and client details and the overall goals of the video series. Jeremy then jumped into the editing process, aligning on our visual look and feel for the series. Jeremy did two rounds of edits based on ours and the Clients feedback and delivered four videos to us.

JMaverick Studios helped us make explainer videos for our products. They created a pair of product videos for us, as well as six social clips that served as shorter versions or derivatives of the two, longer product videos.

We had one main point of contact who handled the day-to-day communication and logistical tasks. On the shooting day, they provided a larger team in capturing all the needed footage.

We searched for a number of different vendors across the US and narrowed it down to a couple of organizations. We eventually decided to go with JMaverick Studios based on the quality of their work and price point. They shared really good examples of their previous work, which were exactly the kind of stuff we were looking for.

We worked together on this project from December 2021–January 2022.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

The videos they delivered really conveyed the value of what we do in a concise, professional manner. Our sales team started using them for their pitches, during which they’ve received great feedback and results. We also uploaded the videos on our website and are planning to use them on upcoming trade shows.

How did JMaverick Studios perform from a project management standpoint?

Their project management style was great. We had a really tight deadline for this production — three and a half weeks — but their team did a very solid job of addressing our specific needs and keeping us in the right direction throughout. Overall, we were really happy with how they executed everything.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They were very nimble and flexible in accommodating our needs regarding timeframes, location, and content. Also, they had the necessary skill set that allowed us to do what we wanted to do.

No — this was a great experience overall, and we definitely recommend working with them.

If you’re going to do a live product shoot as well, make sure to find a good location where there is minimal foot traffic. This will provide you and their team with more flexibility in getting the needed shots.

For what projects/services did your company hire JMaverick Studios?

We hired JMaverick Studios to create a video that showcases how our autonomous vehicle technology works. We needed a video that positioned the viewer in the rider's POV and showcased the autonomous vehicle's driving performance, interior and exterior technology, and exterior branding of the vehicle,

What were your goals for this project?

The goals of the video were to demonstrate the company's progress in autonomous vehicle technology, which isn't open to the public to experience. We showcased the video across several channels: blog, speaking engagements, conference booth, social media, and on our website.

The definition of success was how well our very targeted audience understood the message of the video and how it shaped perception of our program.

JMaverick Studios has a broad range of capabilities and were strong collaborators in identifying the best path forward for our goals. They were willing to be flexible and meet our specific needs.

Describe the video(s) and the process in detail.

For this video, we shared a brief that included the objective, goals, mandatories, and restrictions. From there, Jeremy and I collaborated on a strategy, and Jeremy developed a detailed shoot plan.

We collaborated with different teams across the autonomous division to finalize the details and conduct the shoot day-of. On the day of the shoot, Jeremy's team worked quickly and thoughtfully to gather as much high quality content as possible and left time for unique shots and experiments. In particular, the drone footage was a major highlight.

What was your vendors' project management or feedback process?

Jeremy was patient and supportive as we held internal reviews within our autonomous division, and made adjustments as needed and quickly. He was also willing to turnaround a very quick additional shorter for a fair price.

It was great to work with one person closely at JMaverick Studios, as there was helpful continuity from beginning to end.

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

We've heard great reactions to the video, specifically how much it informed our viewers about our team's progress in self-driving. We continue to use this video and will leverage JMaverick Studios in the future for our next shoot.

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

The communication between our teams was very smooth and productive each time. Jeremy was flexible and adaptable, offering multiple solutions to meeting our needs and ensuring a smooth production day and editing process.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

The team members are wonderful and very easy to work with. The willingness to be flexible is hugely valuable. JMaverick Studios is a group of kind and creative brains who always find a way to create magic.

I’m the co-founder of Quality Produce. We’re a creative agency based in San Francisco, but we’re a global company. We focus on creating marketing and PR campaigns, as well as building brands. A lot of my work is in business development and supporting client work, helping set the direction for the work we do.

I hire them for pressing video assignments.

What was the scope of their involvement?

For the most recent project, in particular, we needed a quick turnaround for a business development opportunity. As part of an RFP, we were asked to create a 10-minute video in three days, which is fairly tight. 

JMaverick Studios stepped in, like they always do, and helped us develop our storyboarding. We did all the actual shoots for this production because of the turnaround time, but their team helped direct shots and worked with us on the post-production.

Their team worked with us on the specs, the lighting requirements, and everything like that. They worked with us to wrap everything up in time and deliver the video. We worked together very closely on the first walkthrough and the final edit, as well. 

Most of the work I do with JMaverick Studios is for client assignments, usually with commercials or social media videos. Typically, they’d be on site with their own camera crews, but this project had a tight turnaround so we handled that.

I mainly work with Jeremy and there have been a few other wonderful people involved over the years, as well. There are videographers, editors, and other support staff. 

How did you come to work with JMaverick Studios?

We’ve known each other for quite some time, in fact, we’d worked together in the past at a different company. When Jeremy launched JMaverick Studios, they became the preferred vendor for that agency at the time, so first-hand experience led me to choose them.

We’d worked on so many types of projects together, so I definitely considered them a resource. After working in the trenches with them, I knew they were a team I wanted to keep very close to me. Their creativity has been a large reason why we’ve stayed engaged for so long.

The project value for this assignment was somewhere around $10,000–$15,000. Depending on the package size that we go for, and the types of services included, the price ranges.

This project ran from February–March 2020. However, our engagement has been ongoing since near 2008.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

With this specific project, the metric is ensuring we get through to the next round of the RFP. We judge their work based on the quality, timing, and delivery, the chemistry between our teams, and the service attitude. Everything is just very high. They have a really good understanding of the role video plays in the marketing world, which is highly valuable for us. 

They come from the agency world, so we get great work but they have a wonderful understanding of deadlines. Their background and experience have always been very favorable for us and the work they’ve done for us. I couldn’t rate them highly enough. 

How did JMaverick Studios perform from a project management standpoint?

They know how to get work done on time and looking sharp. They’re very communicative. Jeremy will call out any red flags he sees coming and will make sure things move smoothly. We have a high level of trust between our teams. I absolutely love their project management approach. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

The passion and professionalism they bring make them stand out from other providers. They’re not just checking boxes and pushing work through — they really dig into the work and see how they can make it unique, distinctive, visually stunning, and on budget. Their passion lends itself well to creativity and collaboration. In working with JMaverick Studios, you can take an idea and evolve it into something that you never imagined. 

Their level of understanding as far as how valuable video is today is important to us. They take a very different approach and are able to align on the vision and what is needed for the end product. 

Are there any areas they could improve?

Everyone can improve — it’d be great if they could duplicate themselves so we could do even more work together. Honestly, there is nothing to improve because we’ve been quite happy working with them. Ongoing improvement is baked into their mindset, so they are always getting better. 

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Produce a solid brief and provide clarity on what’s expected and needed. It’s going to help everything go more smoothly and every creative team would agree on that. What the input looks like will help the output and final product be successful.

Going into it, think about the audience and stakeholders, and be clear about what you’re trying to accomplish and what the message is. If there are any referential materials, use them, and share it to get a better collaboration.

I own a boutique agency where we started off doing branding work across print, digital, and everything in between. We’re now working in the tech arena to create experiences for users through our branding expertise. I’m the owner and one of the company directors.

What challenge were you trying to address with JMaverick Studios?

We had a complicated timeline to create a visual, engaging experience for a client to display their company at a large trade show.

Given our timeline and budget, we determined that we would create a Smart City that would visually demonstrate how the company could connect different platforms together to create a more efficient way to work and utilize information. We wanted to create a video component for the trade show, so we put together a script and passed it off to their team for production.  

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Their team created animations, chose the music, handled voiceovers, and created the final video from beginning to end. After we provided them a script, they gave us different storyboard opens and visual looks. They took the initiative and brought those to us. We chose the designs and illustration options we liked most, and they created more rough sketches and storyboards in the chosen direction. From there, they dug into the animations and digital production work. 

Once they provided the first edit, we collaborated on feedback and made requests for changes. There brought the project to life from there. That worked well for us because we didn’t have too much time to devote to the project, so we were thankful for their willingness to take our feedback and run with it. The final video was about three and a half minutes long.

I worked with two people: one was an animator and Jeremy (Founder & Producer) was the project lead.

Agencies will hire us to execute large trade show assets for them. I met Jeremy years ago when we were assigned to work for the same client. We spent about a year collaborating together on their projects.

We spent between $15,000–$18,000 on their work.

This project spanned from October–November 2018. They completed the project in two weeks.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

The client was very happy with their work, able to use the video for several trade shows. They felt that the video accurately depicted why their technology works from end to end. When we were at the trade show, attendees were walking up to the video and watching the entirety of it. At the reception, we heard attendees talking about the video, which was really great to hear. It was clear that it captured attention and stuck in peoples’ memories.  

How did JMaverick Studios perform from a project management standpoint?

They’re great at project management. Once we decide on a schedule, he always comes through on time and performs according to our timeline. If he’s ever worried about a delay, he lets us know long in advance. We communicated through emails and conference calls. They were super efficient, which allowed us to seamlessly collaborate from different cities. If I call, I can count on him to pick up the phone. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

They understood what we were looking for and delivered a unique digital experience. We enjoy collaborating with out-of-the-box thinkers. They have a passion for video production and will go the extra mile to make a project great.

I’ve never had a problem while working with him. He’s a great partner.

Bring them in early to collaborate on ideas. That way, they can help you navigate budget and timeline constraints upfront. Additionally, they’ll help bring your vision forward in an innovative way. They’re creative but also have the skills to effectively run a business. Utilize that knowledge of theirs.

When I worked with JMaverick, I was the production manager at a company that provides 3D modeling of interior spaces.

What challenge were you trying to address with JMaverick Studios?

We were launching software that would support 360 cameras. We needed to turn around a couple of quick motion graphics videos to let our customers know we’d be launching that support at an upcoming convention.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

We passed off a bunch of footage we had, and JMaverick put together two videos, each directed for two camera companies. We provide them with some rough direction as well as some other product information, and they came back with some edits.

What is the team composition?

I spoke with two people, Jeremy (Director & Founder) and one of his motion graphics artists during a few edit rounds.

How did you come to work with JMaverick Studios?

I had a friend who worked at JMaverick previously, and I met Jeremy through that friend. When I reached out, they were ready to jump on board that day, which was amazing.

The project took place in March 2019. It only took about a week to put together the two videos.

I no longer work at the company, so I don’t have access to their internal metrics anymore. However, I can say the videos were a huge success during the presentation at the convention. The feedback we got was really positive, and the community at large was really excited about the product.

JMaverick was excellent. They were great with communication and extremely responsive in feedback with the edit turnaround. We’d give feedback and have another cut that same day through a protected Vimeo link. It was very seamless.

We needed quick turnaround times, and JMaverick absolutely delivered. They jumped right in and got it done. Normally with production companies, there’s a lot of grace time with pre-production meetings, but with JMaverick, they got right to work.

I can’t think of anything. We needed the video and they delivered. It was all very smooth.

Go into the project with an understanding of what you want. Even if you don’t know exactly, even having examples of what you might want will be beneficial. It will help JMaverick start off on the right foot.

Jeremy (Founder & Producer) traveled to 13 different countries with us and made onsite recordings. He captured all of the essential footage and turned it into a presentation item overnight. They collaborated with our creative director during the storyboarding and planning processes.

Their work was so stellar that our client refused to do a show without them. Jeremy was critical to the team — his output was simply phenomenal. While we could’ve hired a local provider at each location, our client was willing to invest in putting Jeremy on a plane to go to 13 different countries. They were a truly irreplaceable asset.

How did perform from a project management standpoint?

Jeremy is fantastic. His level of organization and incredible work ethic are both unmatched. He required very little oversight since he’s so self-guided. He was able to quickly grasp the unique and complex objectives of the organization, which are influenced by multiple stakeholders and regulations.

What did you find most impressive about them?

The quality of Jeremy’s work speaks for itself. He’s also an exceptionally positive person who remains unruffled in stressful situations. He’s the person on the team who always makes everyone smile; his lovely demeanor will make any third-party client really like him.

Are there any areas they could improve?

No, not really. I wish I could work with JMaverick Studios all the time. Our business model leaves little room for outsourcing, so we do most things internally. Whenever there is an opportunity, Jeremy is my guy. I’d call him in a heartbeat for work on behalf of my most important clients.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Let him do what he does. Don’t micromanage him, since he understands the larger picture. If you impose too much oversight, the quality of the work will most likely be reduced.

We rely on Jeremy (Founder & Director) as our videographer to produce footage for different projects.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Jeremy and his team will produce and edit raw footage for my different projects, and especially for the third-party clients for whom I conduct research. Their work can entail going into people’s homes and documenting lives, or simply recording interviews. I do a lot of work in the outdoor industry, so they’ll even follow people as they’re hiking or running. They edit the videos to provide clients with a short piece that’ll bring their target consumers to life.

I spearhead the outlining and storyboarding processes, and his team is more focused on pulling it all together.

My primary point of contact is Jeremy. If I’m working in a different market (or the east coast) where it’s easier to rely on somebody that Jeremy recommends, I do that as well.

I had unknowingly worked with them at a previous organization. When I started doing independent research for clients, I asked who they’d used, and it was Jeremy. After that, I started using Jeremy, myself.

My direct relationship with Jeremy began 18 months ago. One of our projects started in January 2020 and wrapped up in April or May.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

I don’t have any formal metrics, but my clients are happy, and I’m happy. They capture the research well and bring consumers to life in a way that I’m proud of. Jeremy is able to convey the consumers in a compelling way, which is most important.

How did JMaverick Studios perform from a project management standpoint?

Jeremy’s very efficient and good on timelines. He maintains very clear communication and is always responsive.

What did you find most impressive about them?

For me, it’s the editing piece. Most people can film and capture things, but condensing 20 hours of film into a compelling story is an entirely different deal. Jeremy has a good eye for that.

Are there any areas they could improve?

The only thing I can think of — and this is minor — is that there are sometimes surprise-incrementals with the pricing. It’d help to know all of the costs, upfront. That said, I understand that Jeremy’s running an independent business, just like myself. While things come up, trying to manage unexpected costs and staying upon the agreed point would be excellent. He does so 99% of the time.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Be open and very clear about the story that you’re trying to tell. I help him understand what my goals are and what I’m trying to achieve. If you give them clear direction, they’ll be off to the races and will run with very minimal oversight.

We're a SaaS startup that’s worked in the data catalog space—creating and leading that category. I work in the customer marketing department. We’re a small team and we work with all of our customers to get the best story we can get from them, as well as create content for our sales team so they can grow and build our customer base.

The main reason we hired them was for our customer relations events.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

We hire them for many events, including some national events, and they create promotional videos and snippets on our customer page.

In those events, we had one full day of speakers – customer speakers – and we would record all those sessions. During the break, we would have “man on the street” videos that featured one-on-one interviews, which JMavericks would help us with. Jeremy (Director & Founder) would help us, along with one of the crew members. They helped frame all the interviews and direct the filming, as well as putting it together in the end.

They were easy to get in touch with and responded within an hour, most times. We submit a lot of ad-hoc requests and they’re finished within a few days to one week. It’s super quick and easy. Jeremy gets things done within a couple of days.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They’re professional demeanor, quick response times, availability, and willingness to consult us stand out. They give us extra time and thoughts, even on projects we don’t move forward on. It’s become a personal relationship, rather than just a vendor-client relationship.

Are there any areas they could improve?

Honestly, as of right now, I can’t think of anything we need more of. We keep moving forward with them, in part, because we appreciate their attention to detail.

Be transparent and speak with candor. It’s all about preparation beforehand when it comes to video production. If you don’t have a vision, however, they’re more than capable of providing one.
