What challenges were you trying to address with Iya CyberSecurity Solutions, LLC?

My consultancy delivered integration and middleware projects for enterprise clients, and several of those engagements had hard security requirements the client expected us to manage. I hired Iya CyberSecurity Solutions for this specialized layer: application security and identity, particularly around the Red Hat Middleware stack.

What was the scope of their involvement?

The goal was to have identity and access management and application security in general handled by a true specialist, so the overall delivery met enterprise security standards without slowing the rest of the project down. The scope varied by engagement but centered on two areas.First, security assessments, which involved reviewing application architectures and deployments against enterprise security requirements and identifying what needed to change. Second, identity management, which involved implementing identity and access management solutions and configuring third-party identity management packages to integrate with the client's environment.The main deliverables were the assessment findings and the working, configured identity infrastructure itself. Documentation was a standard deliverable on our projects, and Iya CyberSecurity Solutions delivered it as part of their work, covering the assessments and the identity solutions they implemented. Training and ongoing support were not part of the scope; engagements concluded with the delivery and documentation.

I've known Robert professionally for many years and had direct experience of his work before this project. I chose Iya CyberSecurity Solutions for the culture fit, the value for cost, and because I knew from experience the quality of their work would transfer straight into the deliverables of our projects.

This specific project ran March through June 2016. We worked together across multiple engagements starting in 2011, and have stayed in professional contact since.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

The measurable outcome was that every deliverable shipped and was accepted: solution architecture documents, the implementation and configuration work, the tests, and the accompanying documentation. All of it passed through to my end client, was billed, and was paid without dispute. For a consultancy, subcontracted work that survives the client's scrutiny with no rework and no pushback is the primary success metric.We didn't track formal KPIs of that kind on subcontracted work. Success was defined by deliverable acceptance and the end client signing off, which happened on every engagement. We received consistently positive feedback from our end clients regarding the quality or effectiveness of the security solutions delivered by Iya CyberSecurity Solutions.The strongest signal was that the end client would ask for Robert by name on repeat work, which for a subcontractor is the clearest endorsement there is.

Project management was straightforward and reliable. Robert was easy to communicate with, kept me informed without needing to be chased, and delivered on time. As a prime contractor, that reliability is exactly what we needed from a subcontractor, and it's a large part of why I kept bringing him back across multiple engagements.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Robert's commitment to staying current was impressive. Security is a field that evolves quickly and punishes stale knowledge, and Robert consistently kept up with developments, to the point of writing and publishing security-focused articles on Medium. I read them myself and found them genuinely interesting. Working with a specialist who is visibly engaged with his field, not just executing from an existing toolkit, was the standout quality.

Are there any areas they could improve?

Nothing substantive comes to mind. Across multiple engagements, the work was delivered as scoped and on time. If I had to name anything, it would be on my side of the arrangement, not his.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Iya CyberSecurity Solutions, LLC’s work led to security patching and architectural improvements. For example, we had an API key vulnerability that Google left open, which got exposed and left us open to around $7,000 in a spike due to a hack. Robert helped provide us with information that helped us scratch back every penny. The vulnerability wasn’t on our end, which allowed us to mitigate the charges and keep us in the green.

Iya CyberSecurity Solutions, LLC delivered on time as long as we provided the information requested and allowed the security evaluation to do the work.

Robert didn’t lie at all, which was critical in matters of security. Expert reviews are standard, but nobody needs it sugar-coated if there’s a real risk.

Before starting this project, we had been struggling to get any sort of constructive help from Microsoft about how to set up Azure Active Directory properly with Auth0 to have a working and reasonable user-friendly SSO system that both internal and external users could use. After Iya Security came onboard, everything worked in record time in all of our environments, everything was clearly documented, and it worked like that for years.

Today we have 2 applications serving around 1000 internal and external B2B users flawlessly
