We engaged Inertia Solutions (James Moss) to build VeraFix, a software product that identifies the source documents (criteria, codes, specifications and requirements) that apply to a specific federal architecture and engineering pursuit or project, and produces role-specific deliverables from them.

The work was structured in two signed stages. Phase 0 was a defined statement of work to establish the foundation and the development environment. It was followed by a Project Kit statement of work with dated milestones: first, defining the inputs the product needs; second, rebuilding a complete reference project from its source workbook and matching it to a fixed set of reference outputs, so we could prove the automated result equals the hand-built one; and third, building a second project to show the approach works beyond the first. The product is deployed to a machine we own and operate.

Key deliverables included the Phase 0 setup and development environment, the defined input specification, the rebuilt reference project checked against our reference outputs, and the second-project build.

James was very responsive throughout. He immersed himself in the subject matter and our process so he could fully understand it, and then made sound recommendations that improved the end product and made it more user friendly for me as the person who operates it. That depth of understanding is rare in a developer working in a niche, exacting domain where every output has to trace back to verified source text.

Scope, milestones and acceptance tests were written down and signed before work began, so we always knew what "done" meant and could check it against something concrete. Milestones were delivered on the agreed dates, and in our case they were early.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

Measurable outcomes:

- Milestones met ahead of schedule. The agreed milestones under the signed statements of work were delivered on or before their due dates.

- Verified against fixed reference outputs. The reference project, originally built by hand from its source workbook, was rebuilt by the software and checked against a fixed set of reference outputs, so we could confirm the automated result matched the hand-built one instead of relying on a status report.

- Defined, signed acceptance criteria. Each milestone had written acceptance tests agreed before work began, so progress was judged pass or fail against something concrete.

- Repeatable beyond the first project. A second project was built to show the approach works on new inputs and not just the first case.

- Usable by the operator. His recommendations during the work made the product easier for me to operate day to day.

James managed the engagement well. The work was organized under signed statements of work with dated milestones and written acceptance tests, so scope, timing and what counted as "done" were clear from the start.

He delivered on time. The milestones were met on the agreed dates, and in our case they came in early.

He was very responsive to our needs. He answered quickly and kept the work moving. What impressed me most was James's ability to dive into genuinely complex material and make sense of it. Our subject is a dense web of source documents, hierarchies and relationships, where one requirement points to another, which points to another, and where it matters which document controls and why. Many developers would have asked us to simplify it. James took the time to learn how the pieces fit together, and he understood the structure well enough to see where the real problems were.

He then brought solutions to the table, not just questions. His recommendations came from understanding how the material actually works, so they improved the product and made it easier and more intuitive for me to operate.

That combination is what sets him apart: the willingness to master a difficult domain, the ability to model its relationships accurately, and the practical judgment to turn that understanding into something usable. He treated our problem as his own.
