I am the coordinator responsible for analytics related to customer data at ENGIE Brasil Energia. This includes the construction and oversight of marketing and sales KPIs and market KPIs

There are two main challenges: 1) To have the Energy consumption data of all Electricty Free Market consumers ready to be consumed on a BI tool (Power BI) 2) Link these consumers with the available companies public data (From Brazil's IRS) 3) Develop a methodology to determine Economic Groups according to societary/company corporate chain

What were your goals for this project?

The may goal was to be able to segment the Energy consumption base according to Economic groups and provide more intelligence in terms of market data analyses, market share calculation, close follow up of market trends and supply the sales team with powerful sales-related information.

We know indicium from a previous successful pilot we ran in 2019. The company was selected for this pilot after technical interviews with companies located in Florianópolis, where ENGIE headquarter is also located, a city recognized as the tech capital of Brazil.

Describe the project in detail.

Data integration and database structuring for a ENGIE, a power generation company responsible for the commercialization of over 13% of Energy in the free market of electricty. This also mean Indicium has to integrate all their codes in ENGIE's Data Lake and Data Warehouse. They also developed crawlers and data modeling for economic groups and na API for enriching ENGIE's data with data only available on Indicium's Data Warehouse.

What was the team composition?

On ENGIE's side, we were 3 analysts that are responsible for customer and market data at the Company. On Indicium's side, they had a Project manager, two data engineers and one data scientist working on the Project. I also assume they relied on their structure of several other data scientists for specific tasks.

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

We are in the early stages of the Project yet, therefore no actual result. However we expect to save hundreds of hours per year of data gathering and analysis, as well as several GB of same data stored in multiple places and better information for the sales team that may translate in higher margin and better time-efficiency.

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

Frequent communication every week. Formal Sprint review every two weeks. Everybody available to each other through multiple platforms (WhatsApp, Email, Bitrix and so on)

What did you find most impressive about this company?

Extremely high technical capacity. They have knowledge of several diferente tools, including all tier 1 tools we use. They are only done when the client is happy with the result.

Are there any areas for improvement?

So far there is nothing specific to be pointed out. Of course, on our side, quality > speed, so any delay that may happen in the schedule will not be a big deal if the quality is right.

We horr Indicium to implement our BI. We had a mix of big excel archives, with mixed informations that don’t talk each other. Our system were not friendly to collect data, therefore we spend more time organizing them, then analysing. The decision making became slow

By indication. Indicium has great clients, important vompanies in their segment and I knew some of them. Besides, they demonstrate strong knowledge, confidence, and a friendly atmosphere. Their project proposal eas very aligned with our demand,

We organized meeting to start the projetc with both teams, share our goals and the project schedule and main steps to achieve. We had meeting eith the leaderships once a week, while the indicium team work daily to understand our data.

The operational teams (dialogo e indicium) had a meeting very often, almost daily. As our system was from another companh, this was a special issue. We had to jeep an eye on these matter. The 3 opertional team work to solve problemas and to make the data viable. Again, we had checkpoints with the leaderships to solve eventual main issues.

Indicium propose the delivery four main points. 1) the draw of the database, how the architeture would be 2) Import the Figures and checking 3) defining main views 4) train the users and implementation The first part they work mainly by their own and had a great challenge They need our help With the third part team that own the system.

Fortunately they have a good negotiation and relashionship skills that facilitate to pass through this challenge. Import figures and checking figures demand a hard work together between indicium and dialogo with some checpoints to advance. To define the views, they were very patinent and diligent as we had still the “excel mindset”. They help us advance and change the mindset Finally they were very prestative and able to train our people and diciplined to implement the BI

We defenetely change our mindset, how to work with the figures. With the excel we had to much work to get the figures usally late. There forenwe had tommake decisions with the instinct and our knowlede. Know we are able to have the info on time and decision making is more technical

We improve as we learning by doing. At first our leaderships meeting were not so aligned, as we in dialogo try to “protect” our operational team, saving their time. As we perceived this, we gave them all the empowerment needed And the things run well. We had great empathy within the teams which facilitate everything

Their knowledge an technical skills. They talk business with us and they know how to transfere that to the technique. Also they were very patient to our demands and have a great habilty to negotiate, tomexolain when our demands were not accurate

I think their subestimate the dificulty of our business and how we operate, mainly the dificulties of our TMS system. But they embrace the problem and turn around the problems into Solutions.

Although big data studies, as far as I know, (in Brazil in particularly) is an starting market research tool and science, however, perfect for our needs. INDICIUM, located nearby, a dynamic start-up, looked up, to us, as a competente company for the task ....I´ve got to learn about the company by family ties

Brazil imposes several limitations that restrict typical marketing approaches for lawyers. Therefore, we hired Indicium to reformulate our sales and marketing strategy, considering these legal restrictions.

Also, we were struggling to manage our extensive and messy database. We tried optimizing processes, buying software, and creating methodologies but nothing worked. Indicium assisted us in structuring and visualizing our data.

My partner and I selected Indicium. We were not looking for simple software. We needed to restructure our whole business system. We chose Indicium because it is the best company we found, that could provide an end-to-end and personalized service that met our objectives.

It used to take at least fifteen days until I could get a report, now I can easily access any business information in real-time.

Indicium project management was spot on. Our communication was always smooth. Whenever we needed, they were available and ready to help. That was especially important during the BI deployment phase. This communication contributed to the success of our project.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

I think what distinguishes Indicium is that they actually deliver what they sell. They are always ahead of the competition and offer advanced solutions that are not available in Brazil. I understand the complexity of data science services; therefore, I am impressed by the quality and efficiency of Indicium's services and response to my business demands.

Switching to Power BI has made it a lot easier for us to analyze our data and make decisions. Our dashboards allowed access to quick and clear views, helping our managers.

The BI LBM project consists of using data science to present the data of our ERP in an agile way that allows the assistance in the management decision making. This project is being built by Modules divided into several areas of the organization.

The First Module Built was a Commercial Order Vision and Sales Ranking. What does not exist at the moment is the module related to PCP and Production. Built in WEB programming language, the sprints are fast, about 3 weeks each, allowing a quick evolution of the tool. the modules will be evolved to measure the demand for new visions that will emerge.

the first result is that we were able to analyze the production costs to be more assertive in the construction of the product price.
