Our company is a car leasing brokerage in the U.K. Our business is entirely Internet-based, and the majority of our customers come from organic search engine traffic. I am the in-house digital manager in charge of overseeing IT and marketing projects.

We experienced a drop in organic traffic after the Penguin 4 release in 2016. Indexsy has a reputation for successfully running SEO campaigns for large companies and is especially adept at link building and analysis.

What were your goals for this project?

Our goal was simple, to regain the lost traffic from the Google algorithm update. We had no set timescale for the traffic to return, simply 'ASAP' which is a tough ask for any digital consultancy.

The team at Indexsy initially conducted a full-scale audit of our website, our external backlink profile, our brand presence online, the competition in terms of organic search, and the Google search landscape for our targeted keywords. The team then put in place a rigid plan to work toward recovery, which is now in place and revisited monthly to judge progress.

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

Both our external backlink profile and indexed URLs in Google were cleaned up, both of which would normally result in a staggering drop in organic traffic to a website. However, Indexsy did this in a calculated and intelligent way, meaning that we've barely lost any conversions or revenue from the decline in traffic. We are now seeing signals of growth in Google organic traffic, which is converting at a much higher level. The next couple of months should be a real breakthrough for our bottom line return from organic search.

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

It's been fantastic. I have daily contact with the company, and, anytime I have questions, they are given appropriate time and answered in-depth. I have complete confidence in the transparency that Indexsy gives me.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

I've been most impressed by their meticulous attention to detail when analyzing websites for SEO inefficiencies. The company was able to highlight flaws and provide fixes for issues I didn't know existed. However, at the same time, Indexsy has a huge reach when it comes to blogger and media contacts, giving us a huge inventory of backlinks we can acquire when needed.

Are there any areas for improvement?

Not especially. I needed to reinforce our parent company's reserved nature for coverage in press and blogs at first, but the consultants and freelancers quickly learned this and worked to our house style with ease.

Our goal was to audit the current strategy and define a new one. We needed a detailed digital marketing strategy which supports our growth ambition. I anticipated the strategy would have a big impact on our growth, and that proved to be right.

We asked around in our network for recommendations, and we searched online for digital marketing agencies that stood out. Finally, we ended up with a shortlist of 5 agencies which we gave a case. We then discussed the case over Skype. My business partner and I had separate calls with the agencies to make sure we were choosing the right one.

The project scope was to audit and re-define the digital marketing strategy. The goal was exponential growth of paying customers with a healthy monthly recurring revenue. My role was managing and giving input to the agency. Indexsy delivered the strategy.

Jacky was our contact within Indexsy. He's the main guy there. He spends time in Berlin which is not too far from Brno, Czech Republic where we are based, so he came over to our office for several meetings. He works with a team, but we never spoke to them directly.

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

Customer and revenue growth is way up. It looks like we're going to surpass our end of year goals by a lot. We're happy with the way things turned out. In the end, it's up to us to implement the strategy and get everyone to do the right things, but it worked out well.

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

It was good. Jacky was always quick to respond and didn't have problems with visiting our office several times during the course of the project. He's also not someone with a 9 to 5 mentality; if I send him an email in the evening, he's quick to respond.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

Jacky is very direct and clear in his communication which saves a lot of time and makes communication smooth. As a Dutchman accustomed to directness, I appreciate that. Jacky brings a lot of experience to the table. It's not one of those agencies that bring their best talent to the initial meeting, and when the project starts, you get a junior who just graduated from college which is, unfortunately, the way it goes with lots of the larger, well-known, agencies.

Are there any areas for improvement?

Their pricing was a bit high. It was worth the money for sure, but it didn't come inexpensively. As a bootstrapped startup, it put a dent in our budgets, so I would have been happier with a lower price.
