I’m the co-founder of a technology development company. We work with different emerging technology companies to bring their products to the Middle East.

We needed support with development. We hired Hexagon Digital Lab Private Limited to become our partners in this. They’re the more technical team, and we’re the people on the ground working together to bring their skills and expertise to the Kuwaiti marketplace and to our clients who need their expertise.

What was the scope of their involvement?

They provide a wide range of services from app development, IoT, AR/VR, AI, e-commerce, and others.

I’m more on the business side and they deal with the technical side of things. They build iOS, Android, and web apps. Clients tell me they use the top-grade programming languages to supply their needs.

They hear what the client wants, and tries to give them that. If there’s a better solution to solve the client’s needs, they’ll come up with it. Their main goal is to give the best product possible, and not necessarily just make something quickly for financial gain.

One of the projects we’re currently working on is app development for a local company, a valet system. They used Python, HTML, and all the standard app development software. The valet app has booking, admin, tracking, and gives functionalities to certain drivers.

What is the team composition?

I work directly with the project manager and two project heads. There are others on the project, too.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working together in January 2019, and the work is ongoing.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Our clients have had a very good experience with them. I hear how informative, responsive, and understanding they are of our clients’ needs.

How did Hexagon Digital Lab Private Limited perform from a project management standpoint?

Organized and transparent, they perform at a very high level. They hit their targets and admit when they're going to be delayed. If we have questions, they respond to them instantly via email, Skype, or WhatsApp.

What did you find most impressive about them?

When they say they can do something, they actually have the ability to back it up. They’re very well rounded in many different aspects of the tech business.

Are there any areas they could improve?

There’s nothing I’d have them improve. I’ve been very happy, as have our clients.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

I recommend using them. They’re very motivated. They want to make sure their clients succeed because, in the end, they know if the client is happy, it will reflect partly on them.

What were your goals for this project?

As this was a custom product of client. We had to start everything from scratch. So our goal was to create the whole software and deliver with the requirement of the client.

Hexagon helped us delivering a project to our client. They developed this project in java with all the latest tools. Client was so happy seeing the output that they are planning us to give few more projects and surely we will take Hexagon help. In the initial period Hexagon created workflow and documentation to make the project more clear to client and for us.

They are around 35 team members. But I was aware how many technicals are working with our project. That is good because they know how much technicals to use for specific project.

As I told the client was very happy seeing the output. They are planning to give us many other projects because they know that we can achieve the target.

It was very good as we were getting all information of the project on time. They are very strict for the deadlines.

We like their management, knowledge on the technical part. The best part of Hexagon is their problem-solving attitude.

We needed help with development.

What was the scope of their involvement?

We started out creating a full ERP solution with them for our restaurants and customers. They were our consultants and gave us options, solutions, and advice. The beauty of working with them is that they guided us and gave us a full and correct understanding of the process. They gave me a session about different technologies including Java, PHP, and .NET. Everything I know about development is because of them. The ERP is based on Java.

What is the team composition?

I have interacted with the project manager and the account manager. There are many people working on it that I haven’t communicated with as well.

How did you come to work with Hexagon Digital Private Limited?

We liked the way they pitched the job. Specific and transparent, they were willing to share everything. They were a solutions company rather than a development company, and they wanted to make sure that everything was clear in writing so that both parties would be happy. Additionally, they were nice enough to amend and change things to my advantage, sometimes for no charge at all. The clarity they brought is why I decided to go with them and not other companies.

How much have you invested with them?

We’ve spent $110,000 so far.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working together in June 2017, and the work is ongoing.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

I’m comfortable now that they’re supporting me. I don’t have a technical background, but I’m comfortable going back to them with other ideas. The work was well received by my internal team. They’re happy with how it functions. It’s easy and clear, so it’s been a smooth transition.

How did Hexagon Digital Private Limited perform from a project management standpoint?

They were great. The timeline set was accurate, and in some stages, we had more time to discuss changes and amendments in a very flexible manner. I’m primarily in contact with the account manager, but the project manager comes in on different occasions, especially for weekly meetings. He makes sure everything is on track. They’re always on time or early, and they left a gap for me to think and come back to them.

There’s a couple of third-party software solutions that I have access to and there are bug reports. They are very supportive. If I call them now, they’ll help me. It was intense at the beginning because there were too many documents involved in the process, but, eventually, it ended up being great.

Initially, I worked with another partner to develop the ERP as an online ordering app, but that was a disaster. The support wasn’t there, and the product had many bugs. The developers wouldn’t answer my calls, and they would take two weeks to respond to WhatsApp messages or emails. It’s a blessing to have the support of Hexagon Digital Private Limited.

Are there any areas they could improve?

There was something of a language barrier, but, other than that, nothing needs to be improved. I’ve had a really good experience.

Thoroughly read the documents they send at the beginning. They were always specific and going back to the signed document.

I’m the director of a government-run vocational training college.

What challenge were you trying to address with Hexagon Digital Private Limited?

We were trying to improve an education game training product built using WebGL. We had inherited the product from our previous vendor, and we wanted to improve its user experience and performance. The game wasn’t performing so well. The user experience was low and the net promoter score was low. 

The customer was dropping off of the game very early in the process because of the experience (e.g. download speed, the size of the product, its inability to work with data or Wi-Fi, and information failing to synchronize between the backend and the frontend).

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

When they came in, they started working from the existing code within the browser-based game.

They also helped the backend system communicate with the frontend user data. (The backend system allows us to see how the user moves through the game.)

The developers analyzed the structure of the game’s coding, found out the source of users' problems, and then made recommendations to fix the game and re-wrote code.

They made a number of suggestions, including coding changes to improve the UX, the landing platform, and the browser-based game itself.

Then, they built a mobile application from scratch. When they created those applications for Android and iOS, they had to make sure the customer could navigate on their desktop or laptop browser, but also use their device. 

We finished the product in December 2018, and now they help us with improvements.

What is the team composition?

They have project managers, web engineers, QA specialists, and app developers. The lead developer was our main point of contact. 

How did you come to work with Hexagon Digital Private Limited?

We found them by looking at other people in our region who were competent with WebGL. We spoke to a number of vendors. 

When we met the team, we felt they had a very nimble approach. They were very enthusiastic about taking the product on. Also, they seemed to have an extremely good knowledge of WebGL. Prior to meeting us, they spent a lot of time researching the product. We felt confident they’d be able to turn our issues around.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working together in June 2018, and the work is ongoing.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Now, we’re able to get people through the landing journey much faster. We’re able to turn more people into experts than when the product was initially launched.
In December 2017, we were certifying 31 people a month. In October 2018, we were certifying 250 a month. Now we’re certifying 330 a month.

In May 2018, it was taking people an average of 22 days to become an expert, which is graduating through the training program. In December, it was down to five days. As of now, it’s down to 1 ½ days. 

Most users are still using the browser-based product. The number of downloads of the app is low, but we don’t have any negative feedback or issues with the apps. The number of complaints has dropped down to zero. 

How did Hexagon Digital Private Limited perform from a project management standpoint?

They are very good. The produced a sprint calendar, and they met the timelines. They’re usually well ahead of schedule. We use Jira, and their communication is super. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

They are very competent in coding (e.g. how the code should be structured and formatted). They understand the technical literacy of our users. They’re much more competent than the previous vendor.

Are there any areas they could improve?

No, there’s nothing they need to improve. They were in a very heavily regulated box, and I do feel they could be very innovative if those constraints were taken off. But, they were given a very clear set of deliverables. We could tell they wanted to suggest alternatives or do other things, but that wasn’t an option during that point in time.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

You should trust them. Give them enough space to discover, explore, and come up with suggestions. We learned to trust them and realize they are a competent staff who will eventually get to the source of the problem.
