The main services include customized pre-installed image development for operating systems and development of system-included software, ensuring that each new model shipped to the client is equipped with the latest operating system, software, and drivers. They employed agile methodologies, breaking down complex projects (e.g., Development of Smart New Energy Power Systems, Office Expansion Software for AR Glasses XR Systems, AI Inspection Tools for Smart Factories, and Video Conferencing Systems), adjusting timelines to align with our production schedules.

We develop a Life & Pension Administration system to service pension portfolios on behalf of clients.  The software manages the entire lifecycle of plans / policies from inception through to maturity.  My role is Director of build across design, development & test.

We use Hengtian as an extension to our development team.  When we get a spike in project demand we work with Hengtian to build additional teams.  The system is built in .Net.  We had used Hengtian previously, so have built a very good relationship with them.

Our company specializes in Customer Communication Management (CCM) and provides solutions for Customer Experience Management (CXM) for the Healthcare and Financial Services industries. We are also one of the largest digital printing companies in the U.S.

I am one of the Senior Director of Software Engineering in the company, in charge the product research & development and product delivery for various clients.

Given the increasing cost of hiring IT resources from the local market, we were keen to be more cost-efficient as an organization and considered software outsourcing to address such a challenge. Hengtian was able to mobilize the project team in a short period with qualified resources.

What was the scope of their involvement? 

We started the engagement with Hengtian by requesting an initial small team working on assigned tasks for a few months and that turned out to be satisfactory.

From there, Hengtian began to get more involved in the full project life cycle of software development, including requirement analysis, solution design, customized development, testing, maintenance & support, etc. and they integrated and collaborated with our teammates in the U.S., Indian and China very well.

The projects relate to both products for external clients and applications for internal use.

At present, there are 9 team members working on the project I’m managing directly. In addition, there are over 20 resources on projects for other business units in the organization.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We started with a small team as a proof of concept, and now there are around 30 dedicated resources working on several important projects. The relationship has been in existence for 10+ years and trust has been built across of all levels of the organizations on both sides.

How did the vendor perform from a project management standpoint?

Hengtian offers fully functional project teams understanding elements of how to make a project successful. They deliver with high quality and on time.  They have effective approaches to resolving challenges and difficulties during the project. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

They take accountability for the work assigned to them. To ensure the project is executed smoothly as per plan, they sometimes sacrifice their personal time to work at nights and weekends, which we appreciate.

Communication was a challenge at the beginning of the engagement. However, we have seen notable improvement over the years, and this is no longer a concern.

What business challenge were you trying to address with the vendor? 

Continuing business growth led to an increased demand for project resources to deliver projects to existing customer base and to implement new prospects. Existing internal channels could not keep up with the demand and hence was impacting ability to recognize revenue. Hengtian had a proven track record to provide appropriate, skilled resources in a timely manner during past engagements from 2017 ~ 2020. Hengtian were re-engaged to assist with our resourcing challenge.

What was the scope of their involvement?

The scope of involvement was to assist us with the delivery of multiple projects for various number of internal and client projects.

Hengtian assisted by a providing a material number of IT SMEs (Developers, Testers, Scrum Masters, Business Analysts, etc.) to augment our teams.

Technology stack is primarily Microsoft based, i.e. .Net and MS SQL. But also C++ developers and AWS Engineers. 

Hengtian provided a practical and accommodating process whereby initial discussions were swiftly followed up with proposals, which in-turn were followed up by Task Specifications for our review and approval.

Hengtian provided 50+ individuals of varying roles, predominately Developers and Testers of varying seniority and experience, but also Technical Leads, Business Analysts, Scrum Masters, AWS Engineers and Account/Program Managers.

Hengtian were originally introduced to our business unit by a colleague from another business unit where Hengtian were already engaged. After some initial discussions, it was apparent Hengtian were able and willing to assist us address our challenges. They had an existing pool of talent and were able to mobilize quickly to accommodate our requirements.

What is the status of this engagement?

It has been reengaged since Aug 2021 and the intention is to keep it ongoing whilst they can continue to assist with addressing our resource challenges which means we can be more successful.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Cannot provide formal evidence however due to our services and charging model we can confidently state that ultimately, due to the provision of resources to work on chargeable client projects, we have been able to recognize revenue that we would otherwise deferred into the future.

How did the vendor perform from a project management standpoint?

The staff augmentation model has meant that many of the resources have been embedded into our local teams under their direction. However, Hengtian have provided project management function to coordinate themselves in the background which has resulted in smooth onboarding and engagement.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Willingness to assist and responsive, and the quality of the SMEs that have been provisioned.

Are there any areas they could improve?

Overall, their performance has been very good. Perhaps, one area could be to explore and push existing company boundaries in order to provide some resources more quickly than experience.

Honda is top 100 in the fortune 500 companies in the world.  I was Web Services Manager and the creator of the WSI (Web Service Infrastructure).  Under the direction of the corporate E-Business Committee, I led the WSI team to refresh the suite of websites to become the best in the industry.

Our company’s old website had been live since 2008, which had many deficiencies compared to the latest user demand. With the company growth and technology development, we were in an urgent need to redesign the website to create a modern and exciting communication platform for serving client’s rich media and content to the community.

We were looking for vendor with cost efficiency, strong technology and good quality.

What was the scope of their involvement? 

Insigma Hengtian was firstly engaged with our company in two projects in 2010 to provide after sales services to our customers and improve the Motorcycle & Power Equipment website. Since then, Hengtian’s cooperation with our company has deepened. Hengtian helped build new features into the website and carried out a few major updates of the website.  In another project, Hengtian helped build a dealer management system which was a big achievement too.

Hengtian replaced the old IBM solution with the combination of Microsoft technology and open-source solutions. N tiers architecture was used to reduce the development cycle and cut cost. In addition, the new platform was developed to support e-business, and integration with multiple applications.

The main advantage of working with Insigma Hengtian was their ability to actively contribute to the projects they worked on, not just blindly generate code. Their ability to think about the overall solution and provide affective feedback cemented their worth and ensured a long and fruitful relationship.

There are 5~7 team members on average and 17 at peak time. Their roles include Project Direction, Project Management, Architecture, Analysis, Team Leadership, Development, testing and quality control.

I was cooperating with Insigma Hengtian prior to joining this company. Based on our previous engagement, I recognise Hengtian’s excellent delivery capabilities and trust them to bring benefits to our company.

What is the status of this engagement?

I left the company in 2019 but I understand the partnership is still ongoing and Insigma Hengtian continue providing the service. I will be seeking to engage with Insigma Hengtian again in the future.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

A number of projects have been successfully delivered during the engagement with Insigma Hengtian. An independent third-party institution evaluated the major motorcycle manufacturers websites in Australia. Our company achieved 2nd position, moving up 6 positions and passing all major competitors. We also achieved rank #1 on google search engine for the keyword “Motorcycles” which was pivotal to the company.

With any outsourcing arrangement, the distance is the biggest factor. While the current structure we had in place for communication was excellent it would have been optimal if Honda had permanent on-site team members.

In early 2000, one of our most important trading systems encountered crashes very frequently due to the rapid business growth. Our company hired many American and Indian vendors to repair the system without success. However, it took only half a year for the vendor-Hengtian’s team to complete the reconstruction of the trading system. The new system achieved great success, which deeply impressed the executives in our company.

Due to Hengtian’s excellent service, we’re still cooperating with them closely today.

We invested about 1,200,000 US Dollars with them initially. As the relationship continues, the actual figure keeps growing.

I focused on web meeting billing SAAS service and was the billing domain expert.

We had heard of Insigma Hengtian Software Ltd. long time ago which already provided continuous IT solution and outsourcing service, and we were keeping the relationship well.

In 2009 our web meeting product billing system had a big performance issue which required strong technique support to resolve the issue, otherwise the product could not provide end user the invoice on time. We found Hengtian to help on this issue.

They resolved this issue in short time and also provided wonderful suggestion on our system. And at the same time, we had the plan to retire current billing system with new technical solution which was X project.

What was the scope of their involvement? 

We engaged with Hengtian to provide qualified technical resources to supplement our software delivery capacity. The first small project was to research on performance issue of our Enterprise software solution with Java. For the continuity of the X project, Hengtian provided resource support on old platform and also provided resource on new platform.

Finally, Hengtian delivered managed service offsite for monthly release from 2014, and handled the project from project management, technique solution design, implementation, QA, Production Support for the whole delivery lifecycle.

Hengtian provided Java/C/C++/Node JS software solutions. Hengtian resources were comprised of scrum master, technical designers, developers & QA resources.

From the service provider’s company, what is the team composition?

Hengtian started its service with us on personnel outsourcing. We had 20 people at the peak for the X team and 80% of them were from Hengtian. Later the service was changed to managed service with further development between our company and Hengtian. Our solution architects worked with the Hengtian team to deliver X project which ran for ~ 60 months with a full team size of ~ 20, with ~ 12 of those resources from Hengtian.

How did you come to work with the vendor? 

The collaboration with Hengtian started with QA testing training sessions and my team got different values from the sessions. Through the QA testing training sessions, we found the vendor – Hengtian has the professional IT capabilities in many areas.  Hengtian’s outstanding point is that the provided service is always at high quality level and its practice on committing to delivery benefits my team as well. 
 

How much money have you invested with them? 

We spent about USD 480,000 on the initial project, and continued the relationship with Hengtian in multiple departments and projects. The off-shore team expanded from <10 resources in 2010 to ~100 in 2014 and the average number of resources in recent 5 years is ~100. 

What is the status of this engagement? 

X project completed because this platform was retired fully at 2019, and I also moved to new project. The relationship between Hengtian and our company remains in place today. Hengtian still has ~100 resources working for us.

Successful delivery of the original X project. And as the growth of the business, Hengtian provides the service to our company in Hangzhou, Shanghai, Hefei in China, and provides the service to a lot of departments, like CRDC IT, Engineer, Supply Chain, QACC and TACSUNS. The collaboration started from 2010 with 1 department, and has now expanded to more than 15+ departments.

The quality of the project delivery, and the flexibility of the resources were the key values added to my project and team.

The resources from Hengtian have always shown the can-do attitude.

The overall delivery from Hengtian was satisfied. If any area needs to be improved, it could be the specific domain knowledge, but it would not be a big issue as we provide the domain knowledge transfer.

I was a founder member of Percana Group (2001), and CTO. Percana Group Ltd provided administration software and BPO services to the Life & Pensions business domain in Ireland, UK and Europe. Percana Group was acquired by IFDS in 2010. I became the Director of Solution Architecture in the IFDS company.

What business challenge were you trying to address with the vendor? 

In 2009 the Percana business was growing rapidly with new client opportunities in an expanding market. We needed to rapidly increase our software delivery capacity (at reasonable cost) to meet these demands, we also were in the process of re-engineering to new technology stacks. We assessed a number of potential partners in Ireland, South America, Europe and Asia – and found what we were looking for in Hengtian. 

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

We entered into a MSA with Hengtian to provide qualified technical resources to supplement our software delivery capacity. This operated in a dual-shore model where a proportion of the Hengtian team rotated to Dublin for 3-to-6-month intervals, although the main Hengtian team (80%) worked from Hangzhou (China). The Hengtian resources were comprised of technical team leads, design engineers, developers & QA resources. The first project was to re-platform our Enterprise software solution from VB 6.0 / C++ to C# .Net.

Our solution architects worked with the Hengtian team to deliver this initial re-platform project which ran for ~ 12 months with a full the team size of ~ 20, with ~ 12 of those resources from Hengtian.

The initial project (2009/2010) spend was ~ €500k, but we continued the relationship with Hengtian, and the dual-shore team expanded each year 2011-2016, so the spend increased incrementally. At peak, the dual-shore team numbered > 60 resources.

I moved on from IFDS in 2016. The relationship between Hengtian and IFDS (now part of the DST Group) remains in place today.

Successful delivery of the original re-platform project, the acquisition of Percana Group by IFDS in 2010, the growth of the IFDS BPO business after 2010. The relationship remains in place more than 10 years later.

Governance / oversight was good from the outset. The team proved to be technically very strong, offered solutions. They were flexible at all times to get the job done.

Low attrition | turnover in the team, strong independent technical skills.

Relevant point is that Ireland / UK / Europe specific business domain SME knowledge had to be provided locally. This is obviously difficult for a vendor like Hengtian to provide.
