We engaged Mustard to do a couple of things for us. Firstly, to update our brand guidelines. Secondly, to conduct customer interviews to help us with our positioning and messaging of our brand in an extremely competitive market. Finally, and ongoing, to help us manage our social media presence on Instagram. This includes content creation, and management of the page.

What were the measurable outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

Mustard delivered the first two deliverables swiftly and in great detail. They managed to debunk many assumptions that we had that had built up over the years as they came in with a fresh set of eyes and spoke to our customers to uncover many interesting details about their purchasing habits and wants. 

Additionally, social media presence has significantly grown. With follower count increasing 200% in 7 months and reach increasing 800%. While not directly as a deliverable, website traffic from social media has also increased.

Mustard is extremely responsive. The team responds quickly both over Whatsapp and Email. Monthly plans are sent timely with all deadlines outlined clearly. They deliver items often ahead of time and are very thoughtful in incorporating feedback and iterating.

We were doing sales in a tradition way - cold call, visit our clients, market our products. Spreadsheets is our way of keeping records of our client details and their purchases with us. Covid19 pushes us to explore the digital world. We want to be more visible in the digital world, so that potential clients can find us.

We need to set up a CRM system to improve our customer relationships, streamline the sales process. Mustard provided us a complete growth strategy with much needed solid, professional guidance in SEO and optimising our budget in PPC marketing. They also helped us to set up a CRM system and automated our process.

We searched online for growth digital marketing agencies and shortlisted a few, spoke to them and evaluating based on our goals. We decide to give a go with Mustard as they demonstrated in-depth knowledge in the areas of SEO, PPC marketing as well as CRM.

We started with discovery phase where Mustard gets to understand our company, target audience, and expectation for this project. A Quality Website Audit was performed and a detailed report on areas that need improvement was presented. Keyword research audit was next to have a better knowledge of what are the keywords to be selected and include by our site. 

Then, Review and edit page element of key landing pages. At each stage of the project, Mustard gave us very detailed report, explaining what went right or wrong, or missing for each page, and how to rectify those areas so that our site can be optimised. They were also patient with our question, making sure we fully understand how those changes will impact our site.

Our point of contact is the founders themselves, although we know there is 1-2 people working together in the project at the backend.

Can you share any measurable outcomes of the project or general feedback about the deliverables?

On SEO, organics search landing on our site has increased more than 100%. Average Session improved Page view improve over 100% Bounce rate has reduced significantly On CRM, our customer database is centralised, now we can easily collect, organise data about our prospective and current customers, which allow employees to automate, manage their pipelines and processes, giving us higher productivity & efficiency.

Internal communication is streamlined and we can now easier identify which stage is our customer at the sales funnel, which leads to higher closing ratio. Sales forecasting is more accurate.

We had in-person meeting with them in first initial kick-off meeting. After which, we choose to have virtual meeting as, Mustard is detailed in their workflow planning, and everyone in their team knows which area/page is under their care

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

We were impressed with the insights they present from the data generated from Website Audit and Keyword Research, as well as Google Analytics. If we did not seek their profession service, we would be still struggling and wasting precious time trying to make sense out of those data.

Their knowledge in SEO, PPC, Branding has opened up our horizon of how a technical/engineering company can leverage on digital tools and digital platforms to effectively position our company in the digital world.

Nothing comes to my mind that could have done differently.

I didn’t want to spend my own time designing a website, so I outsourced the work to Mustard.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Mustard designed and developed my website. They met with me through phone call and then in person to discuss my needs. From there, they took a couple of weeks to design a website interface, complete with the layout, fonts, and color palette. I provided my feedback for their design, and they implemented one or two changes accordingly.

We went through the same feedback process once myt website was developed. It was built on Shopify and only needed a few minor adjustments. The website itself is very basic and doesn't require any advanced technology, but Mustard did recommend some additional features that I could either get for free or for a small fee.

There were initially three people working on the project, but one of the developers left the company. I eventually only worked with the founder.

I met them through the space I was renting. Coincidentally, at the time, I was looking for a web development agency, so I hired them.

We worked together from June–December 2021.

I haven’t launched the website yet, but I’m satisfied with what Mustard delivered. They gave me what I needed with their acceptable web development skills.

They stayed within budget. We communicated via WhatsApp and email. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

Though I wasn’t able to utilize the full range of their skills, I was quite impressed with their basic web development services.

Are there any areas they could improve?

They could be a bit quicker in responding. When I send an email, I sometimes have to wait 2–3 days for a reply. I believe their lack of manpower is what causes their communication to be a bit slow sometimes.

Give them a longer lead time so they can do more in-depth research.

Our industry is a competitive space. The demand for co-working spaces has declined drastically, especially with most people shifting to a work-from-home setup. We hired Mustard to find a solution for this situation and guide us on a way forward through digital marketing.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Mustard helped us better understand our customers; they did some market research and interviewed a bunch of our existing and potential clients about what our company’s characteristics were and the services we provided them.

From there, we collaboratively formulated key strategies and an action plan based on the persona of our company. After that, they tabulated it as a report and presented it to us. We’re still deciding on the one that we can act on based on our short, mid, and long-term strategies.

Their team has also come up with an end-to-end digital marketing roadmap, which involves revamping our website, refining our branding, and conducting SEO efforts.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Our main metric of success would be an eventual increase in the occupancy rate. That's currently tied to my part because they've already rolled out a few recommendations. When I anecdotally shared the findings with my other business associate regarding what they know about our space, there was a lot of confirmation about what they felt but never really articulated.

How did Mustard perform from a project management standpoint?

They’ve handled our project very well. We have regular meetings and communicate mostly via WhatsApp and Slack.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Their team is very diligent — they dive deeply into their research, filtering out a lot of the noise to fully understand the consumer’s needs and deliver on them.

Are there any areas they could improve?

I think they're already taking the necessary steps to improve their marketing agency. Other than that, nothing else comes to mind because they deliver what we expect from them.

Don't judge them based on how young they are as a company — have a chat with them and listen to what they can do first.

As most of my leads come from online and socials, I wanted a website refresh. We need to convey large chunks of information to customers to offer clarity in service processes and this was a major pain point in my previous website design.

As I'm new to Shopify, the team first advised me on picking the right theme with sufficiently powerful functions in order to achieve the right display format onsite. From there we worked on building the site to ensure a cleaner mobile flow and fully utilised the theme functions in order to construct the multiple pages I needed (from portfolio, editorial and multiple detail-heavy explanation pages).

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

While initially hesitant to make the jump to Shopify from my original drag-and-drop platform, Wix, the Mustard team gave me the confidence to explore this new avenue. My new website offers much more possibilities in future website building and upgrading. I can't stress enough how this a huge intangible plus that as a small business owner, I'm not dreading changing the website anymore but instead excited to jump into it.

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

We had a Zoom meeting to kickstart everything and then I worked largely online with their team with organised Excel sheets and folders in order to get the required information across. The sheets really helped to "hand-hold" me throughout the process so if anyone is hesitant about starting, go for it!

With Mustard, you would get a clean, clear, focused UI/UX flow through your new site.

We needed help in both marketing, specifically social media management and digital marketing - ad buying/SEM/SEO. Having no expertise in those area, we decided to engage Mustard for all services related to those area and gave them free reign on the execution based on our guidelines.

We reached out to a few companies own by friends as well ones that we found online. Based on the conversations, quotes, deliverables and vibes, we decided to go with Mustard. As a small start up, they know what they were doing and came in with a comprehensive and convincing game plan. But the most important thing was their enthusiasm about our business and the project. We wanted an agency who was excited and could grow with long term.

Split into 2 main parts - social media management and digital marketing. The team has a lead for each segment. Under the social media, they help manage our social media, provide design expertise, create the post, schedule them and do date analysis to provide feedback on how to improve. mustard also work with us closely on content creation in terms of ideation and planning.

For the digital marketing aspect, Mustard handles the ad buying for Google and Facebook. They did a competitor research alongside the data analysis to propose a game plan which they have executed. They are also working on SEM and SEO on our website.

As a small team, I work closely with all of the members in Mustard. That was very different from the other agency as it helps prevent miscommunication and ensure that we are always on the same page. It also helps that I could bounce idea with the entire team.

Our IG followers has increased by about 300%. Sales via ads has increased by 200%. IG engagement rates has increased by 300%. Overall, they have been achieving the various KPIs set, or even exceeding them. On top of all the hard facts, it has been a joy working with Mustard, and they have helped us refine our brand further.

We work together very closely on day to day matters via our WhatsApp chat to ensure that any matters would be solved ASAP so as to prevent any delay or hold up. Monthly meetings are held to give updates and reviews as well as to propose solutions or improvements.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

They are driven and excited about every project. No project is too small for them. They give their 110% for everything and they have the skills and knowledge to back up their proposals and claims. It’s quite hard to find agencies who can walk the talk, much more a smaller company filled with younger talents. They are also very open and take everything as constructive feedback to improve in anyway.
