**RESULTS & FEEDBACK**
What were the measurable outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success? Our key products were delivered with features performing as intended. We have a live product in production and have been successfully onboarding clients and public users.Describe their project management. Did they deliver items on time? How did they respond to your needs? The Codelation team has been very responsive throughout this process. Their timelines for delivery have been very transparent and generally delivered on time. When products have not been delivered on time, there have generally been items outside of Codelation's control such as changing product owner requirements or unforeseen issues with outside dependencies. An example of an outside dependency outside of the control of Codelation which may have caused delays would be outside API vendors. I still have very high confidence that Codelation can delivery products and features on time.Codelation receives top marks for responding to our concerns as a client in a very timely, transparent, and conscientious manner. When we have seldom run into significant issues during development, the team at Codelation has been very good about finding solutions which are satisfactory. This builds trust. What was your primary form of communication with Codelation?Virtual MeetingEmail or Messaging AppWhat did you find most impressive or unique about this company?I believe that Codelation has a strong process for developing product ideas. This process has evolved somewhat during our years of engagement, but it is a strength, particularly among similar companies in this region. Codelation does have some very strong leadership in place which has prioritized client relationships and built a great deal of trust and goodwill as a result. This is fairly unique. Are there any areas for improvement or something Codelation could have done differently? While Codelation does have what I would consider a strong project development process, there have been challenges with staff turnover in the project management and Business Analyst roles. This has led to some additional time for the product owner that would have been avoided with more consistency. However, the general quality of project managers and Business Analysts has been generally high and helped to mitigate the project risks caused by said turnover to a large degree.

Please include a summary of key deliverables. Our software has been an essential herd management tool to help beef producers better understand their herd through data. The program needed to be updated from its current software, a program for Windows 2000. To serve this need, Codelation developed a web-based application in which users log in via a web browser, to enter, store securely and access data; this eliminates the need to install and use our software on a single computer and allows data access from any location through an internet connection. Codelation developed the web app for our sofware. DBeaver (Apache License), an SQL database tool, was used in the development of software into a web-based, cross-platform application (trial version of our software and production version). This update moves our software from a desktop program to a web-based application, eliminating software installation and allowing access to our software from any location with a web browser and internet service. The web-based software stores data safely and securely, backing it up in a centralized database. Our online software provides an overview of the importance of keeping good records. Additionally, there is a link for new users to get started with our software as well as existing users to log in to our online version.Additional links, provide resources for those interested in our software's history and publications. With our previous version, breed entry was done manually. Our online version requires breeds and crossbreeds to be selected from a list of breeds to standardize breeds across users. Additionally, a bull turnout date must be added to the herd before a calf can be entered into this herd. The management codes present in our software's previous version are not used in the online version. Instead, aborted and stillborn calves are indicated in the “Birth Circumstance” field when adding a calf. Twin, foster and embryo transplant calves are selected under the “Other Situations” field when adding a calf. Calves that die after birth are culled from the herd (reason culled – died). Calves not weighed at weaning can be selected as such under “Weight Type.” Our online software offers a variety of herd reports. The “Calf Performance Report” displays the number of calves born, died and sold as well as averages for calf weight and growth benchmarks; individual calf birth and weaning data are also listed. The “Calving Distribution Table” displays the number of cows presently in the herd and the number of cows leaving the herd (culled) since the selected bull turnout date. Additionally, calving data is displayed by cow age and the number of calves born each 21-day period; average birth dates and weaning weights are displayed for each age, as well as totals and average wean weight for each calving period. The Cow Lifetime Progeny Report lists all cows in the herd, including cow data and average calf performance data and individual calf data for each cow. The “Herd Performance Comparison” and “NCBA-IRM SPA Summary of Herd Production and Production Performance” list herd performance compared to the five-year benchmarks.

**RESULTS & FEEDBACK**
What were the measurable outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?Codelation was successful in developing the web application. This meant that Codelation successfully build a program that could integrate raw data into existing equations to allow for data analysis within our web app. The site can also generate user reports with several report generators. **The Review** — Jun 30, 2021

**Feedback Summary**: Thanks to Codelation, the company has garnered around 857 users and 29 district software subscribers with a potential increase in the future. The internal stakeholders were particularly impressed with the team's dedication, approach to project management, and integrity to support smaller businesses.
""They kept everyone in the loop and it was really nice to see tasks move through the completion phase."
"

**BACKGROUND**
Introduce your business and what you do there.

I’m the CEO and lead consultant of Cultivate21. We’re an education consulting company that focuses on teaching other teachers about project-based learning 21st-century skills, and I work with schools all over the US.

**OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE**
What challenge were you trying to address with Codelation?

I’ve created my own software, and Codelation has been my software developer.

**SOLUTION**
What was the scope of their involvement?

The software that Codelation helped me develop was for creating project-based learning units. They helped design the first two iterations, and we’re currently using its third iteration.

Initially, I got in contact with Josh (Founder) and he and I built a relationship through the first two interactions of the software. We talked about redesigning the software, what we wanted to make, and then he created a bid for me — I had to decide what I wanted to keep and needed because of the costs.

After that, he assigned me to a team that had a project manager and lead web developer. We had scrum meetings every day to look at the progress of the software, they’d ask questions and demo things, and by the end, we had a fantastic new product. Additionally, there was another member of the team who did the testing, and his job was to pretty much break the product. We met with him several times as part of the scrum to know what he was working on, and what he needed to test the software.

After we’d launch, there were a couple of little fixes that needed to happen once we had people in the software, and Codelation immediately fixed them.

What is the team composition?

There were six people in total who were in and out of the project. The project manager, web developer, and tester were the ones who were almost always at the meetings. Josh would come in sometimes, as well as the lead project manager.

How did you come to work with Codelation?

We met through a recommendation of a friend. The vendor that my friend recommended couldn’t really help me, so they referred me to Codelation instead. They initially helped me develop the software from the ground up.

How much have you invested with them?

For the three iterations of the software, we roughly spent $47,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started in March 2018 and the product launched in June of the same year. They’re still providing us with ongoing support.

**RESULTS & FEEDBACK**
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Our software currently has 857 users, and 29 districts subscribed to it.

How did Codelation perform from a project management standpoint?

Codelation performed very well from a project management standpoint. I worked specifically with Meagan (Project Manager) who was on everything, and she knew just when to communicate with me — she was really good at keeping things going. They used Trello to manage the project, which I didn’t have access to, but I could see the progress through that software during our meetings.

They kept everyone in the loop and it was really nice to see tasks move through the completion phase. Apart from Trello, we used Zoom for our daily scrum meetings and basic email.

What did you find most impressive about them?

I just think that they’re real people who I could talk to about where I wanted my software to go. They weren’t judgmental and they supported me to move in the direction where I needed to move as a company. Additionally, the team had a good mix of people, and Josh did a really good job of getting the right people on the bus, to make his company more superior compared to other software developers — I never felt like I was being talked down to.

Codelation didn’t have an ego, and they were there to help me build my brand and company. They helped streamline my process so it can work the way it’s supposed to. I looked at other companies and I felt like they didn’t think my project was large enough for them, but Codelation took smaller projects and felt like I was really important to them.

Moreover, Josh is really active in our small business community, and I’ve always been impressed with his integrity.

Are there any areas they could improve?

I’ve seen a lot of changes in the last three years where I was mainly working with one developer and one project manager. I don’t really know if there would be anything I need to improve because this experience has been really smooth. I know if I needed anything, I can always go back to them and they’ll support me.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

My advice would be to just be open and honest about your needs and Codelation will be open and honest about what they can provide. If they’re not the right fit, they’re going to help you find the right fit. I have found that they get the right people on the team to serve you and meet your goals.

**RESULTS & FEEDBACK**
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

In terms of metrics, we’ve onboarded close to 100 food trucks to our platform after building the website. It’s been so successful that we’ve had to stop onboarding — we’ve had to slow down.

How did Codelation perform from a project management standpoint?

In terms of project management, the fact that Codelation can take my frustrations and still understand me is crucial because it’s nerve-wracking to be spending money on a project. I may not always say things in the right way when I talk to them, but they always understand and hear me.

To communicate, we use Slack. Every week, we have scrum meetings where they tell me the status of the project and the goals we’ve set.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Josh is highly transparent; he tells things how they are. Other companies overcharge me and I end up asking where those costs come from. By contrast, Josh keeps things clear and lets me know where their charges are going — he always makes sure I know where we stand.

Are there any areas they could improve?

No, there aren’t any. They’ve crushed the project for me, so I have no complaints.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Be completely transparent. If you don’t know something, ask questions. They can’t help you if you don’t ask questions.

## Portfolio & Awards

### Wild Rides Television
Prairie Rose Productions aimed to blend rich Western history with entertaining exclusive rodeo, western, and other contemporary content through their streaming service: Wild Rides TV. While the Prairie Rose Production team dedicated themselves to creating and producing many TV series, the Codelation team is responsible for designing and building a streaming service for the platform. Using the video content management system Zype, we crafted a unique backend CMS for organizing and distributing the WRTV series across the web as an OTT application.
Codelation set out to solve the need for software as a streaming service platform, designed explicitly for Prairie Rose Productions' content called Wild Rides TV (WRTV). Prairie Rose Productions aims to offer its audience a blend of rich Western history and entertaining rodeo, western, and contemporary content. They are necessitating the development of a backend CMS and OTT application to facilitate Wild Rides TV series distribution and organization. The main challenge for the Codelation team was to develop a backend Content Management System (CMS) to handle the organization and distribution of the video content from Wild Rides TV across the internet as an Over-The-Top (OTT) application.
The streaming service was launched on the web in early December 2022 with the combined efforts of our talented project manager and dedicated team of developers and designers, Wild Rides Television is accessible on Apple iOS, Apple TV, Android TV, Amazon App Store, Roku TV, FireTV, and Google Play Store (which means that the app can be accessed on Panasonic, TLC, Sharp, Philips, and Sony TVs).
Though Wild Rides is still an expanding project, the Prarie Rose team has been focusing exclusively on developing additional content for their streaming services. Our relationship with Prairie Rose Productions has not ended, and we continue to grow and help develop Wild Rides TV.

### Terrain Finder
Terrain Finder was created to provide a platform for landowners to publicly list their land for outdoor activities, such as hunting and fishing, and for adventurers to easily schedule a trip to these properties. By using Terrain Finder, landowners have the ability to tailor their property listings according to the types of game available on their land, the rules for adventurers during their stay, and the price of the adventure package. Meanwhile, adventurers can browse through numerous land listings and select the one that best suits their trip requirements.
The team identified a need for a platform that connects landowners who want to offer their properties for outdoor activities like hunting and fishing with adventurers who are looking for suitable locations for their trips.
Landowners faced challenges in publicly listing their properties with customized details like the types of game available, rules for adventurers, and pricing. Adventurers struggled to find diverse land listings and compare their offerings to choose the best-suited location for their outdoor activities.
After the brand guidelines were established, the Codelation team dove into developing the Terrain Finder website. With React as the chosen technology, we prioritized creating a seamless user experience for filtering and searching land listings, as well as designing land profiles and flows that would efficiently capture the necessary information to build a comprehensive land listing.
After phase 1, we also reiterated the home page design. The design team made the landing page more dynamic to capture the audience's attention better as well as adding more information on how to list land and make profits.
Terrain Finder partnered with a third-party sign printing company to start producing property signage with TerrainFinder branding that links users directly to the property owner’s land listing. Codelation developed a Shopify shop to sell these signs.

### Cow Herd Appraisal Performance Software
Codelation was approached by North Dakota State University's Extension Service to update their CHAPS software, a herd management tool for beef cattle producers. The software was designed to provide detailed reports on individual animals' performance and pedigree, enabling producers to make informed decisions about their breeding and management strategies. CHAPS also included tools such as a breeding calculator and a feed intake calculator to optimize producers' programs.
Codelation's team of developers worked on translating the existing calculations into a modern and updated system. We aimed to produce compelling and effective reports with updated visuals to deliver an exceptional user experience. The new system provided detailed reports on individual animals with updated visuals and charts, making it easier for producers to make informed decisions.
Our team of dedicated developers went above and beyond to ensure that the CHAPS software was brought up to modern standards, delivering an exceptional user experience. We meticulously researched and translated the existing calculations to a current and updated system, providing beef cattle producers with herd management software that is both effective and visually appealing.
As of today, CHAPS is a powerful and flexible tool that can help beef cattle producers manage their herds more effectively. Whether you're a small-scale producer or a large commercial operation, CHAPS can provide you with the information and tools you need to make informed decisions about your breeding and management strategies and ultimately improve the performance and profitability of your herd.
"Codelation was able to help develop CHAPS Online, which we have released to the public. We had worked on developing CHAPS to an online for years but had not succeeded. Without Codelation, we would not have achieved this goal.", —Jennifer Ramsay, CHAPS Data Research Specialist

### Liquid Ice
Codelation worked with the marketing team at Liquid Ice to refresh their website so that it focused more on mobile design and incorporated their newly produced video content.
Liquid Ice had several challenges with their old website, including the inability to make edits or add new content in-house, not being up-to-date with the evolution of mobile technology, and having a hard time keeping a connection between their site and vendor portal as site updates were made. Codelation solved these issues by keeping mobile viewing on the forefront of their minds and incorporating Liquid Ice’s new video content to give the site a fresh look. Codelation also built an easy to use backend dashboard that allows Liquid Ice to make updates in-house so that they can stay up-to-date with new marketing trends while also keeping their previous vendor portal.
Liquid Ice’s website now has a modern look that tells their story and is mobile friendly. They are able to get ahead of their competition and keep brand consistency by being able to instantly change their site to keep up with marketing campaigns. New customers, current customers, and vendors can now use their site as a one-stop shop for learning about their brand, buying their product, and all other things Liquid Ice.

### Subscribers.com
Internationally-recognized marketing leader Neil Patel asked us to develop an app for his followers that would increase subscribers using a simple web push notification. We rose to the request and helped Neil develop Subscribers.com.
Subscribers is a web push notification product under Patel’s brand, Hello Bar. Like Subscribers.com, Hello Bar is aimed at increasing subscribers to a company’s product or service by using customizable popups across websites rather than web push notifications. Neil Patel wanted our team to develop a tool to help marketers coming to his website engage more with his other tools. Building a freemium product allowed marketers to push notifications, like sales promotions, product updates, launches, and other news, directly to people who have opted in. Paid versions of the service offer even more benefits, including analytics, drip campaigns, scheduling options, and more.
Our dev team handily built the tool with all the bells and whistles Neil was looking for in the early iteration of Subscribers. Codelation's main focus was laying the foundation for what is now one of the most powerful web push notification tools ever to exist. Neil was astounded by Subscribers.com's effectiveness at driving click rates anywhere from 20% to 40%, which is a pretty big deal in the land of SEO and digital marketing success stories.
“Subscribers is my favorite marketing tool. It is simple, easy to use, and effective,” - Patel

### Pavewise
Pavewise is an innovative software solution tailored for the construction industry. It was designed to address the challenges posed by weather conditions that often impact project timelines, costs, and overall profitability. With its precise capabilities, Pavewise seamlessly integrates real-time and future weather data into construction project planning — revolutionizing the way projects are scheduled and managed. This proactive approach helps optimize project timelines, improve resource allocation, and mitigate potential delays and cost overruns caused by adverse weather conditions.
With the help of the CEO of Pavewise, Codelation identified a need for software that shows the impact of weather conditions on construction projects in the construction industry. Adverse weather conditions often pose significant challenges that can affect project timelines, increase costs, and reduce overall profitability.
The existing project planning and management methods may not effectively account for weather conditions, resulting in reactive responses to weather-related issues as they arise. This lack of proactive planning and integration of weather data can lead to inefficient project schedules, resource mismanagement, and financial losses.
Codelation created a web application using Zype as the backend CMS along with a companion mobile app for use in the field. We also integrated real-time weather alerts into the app as well as SMS and email notifications for when a project will be impacted by the weather. The application also includes a request center for customers to get in touch with the experts at Pavewise.
