Elogic Commerce builds ecommerce platforms for mid-market and enterprise B2B and B2B2C companies - primarily on Adobe Commerce and Shopify Plus, with a growing share of projects that involve AI-driven features layered onto commerce infrastructure. Over the past year, more of our clients have been asking for intelligent search and product discovery as part of their platform builds. We have the commerce engineering foundation to support these projects, but when client timelines are tight and the AI scope is significant, we look for partners who can reinforce the team with the right depth without a full hiring cycle

One of our clients - a manufacturer operating a large B2B catalog on Adobe Commerce - wanted to replace their existing keyword search with an AI-powered product discovery layer. The catalog had tens of thousands of SKUs with complex technical attributes, and their buyers were struggling to find the right products efficiently. A significant share of searches either returned irrelevant results or ended with the buyer contacting an account manager for help. 

The project had a fixed timeline and a clear delivery milestone. We had the commerce and integration side covered internally, but the AI engineering scope - hybrid retrieval, embedding-based search, LLM integration - required a level of specialisation we couldn't staff quickly enough from within. We needed a partner who could embed into our team, work within our delivery process, and take ownership of the AI layer end-to-end. Hiring independently would have taken months we didn't have.

Global Staffing Support placed four people with us: an AI engineer to lead retrieval architecture and LLM integration, a backend engineer to handle the async pipeline and Adobe Commerce API layer, a QA engineer to own the acceptance criteria and evaluation framework for AI outputs, and a PM to coordinate between our internal team and theirs and keep delivery on track

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What were the measurable outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

The core search layer shipped on schedule at the end of the first phase. A few weeks in, the AI engineer flagged a pattern in the search logs: the hybrid retrieval was consistently underperforming on technical queries - part numbers, abbreviated specifications, industry shorthand. The issue was that BM25 and vector search were weighted equally regardless of query type. He proposed adding a query classification layer that dynamically adjusts the weighting between BM25 and semantic search depending on what kind of query is coming in. The PM translated it into a scope change, aligned it with our team the same day, and it went into the next sprint. 

The impact was measurable. Average time to find a product dropped from around four to five minutes to under one minute for the buyer personas we tracked. Inbound contacts to account managers for product-related questions fell by roughly 35%

The engagement was predictable. We always knew where things stood. The PM kept both sides aligned without creating process overhead, which matters when you're running a client project with multiple workstreams in parallel. The team joined our Jira and Slack from day one - no separate reporting structure, no extra status calls.

The team thought beyond their immediate scope. The search fix wasn't in the original brief - it came from someone paying close attention to how the system was actually behaving in context. That's the kind of contribution that's hard to hire for and harder to brief

If anything, we'd have welcomed the option to bring them in earlier in the scoping phase. By the time we engaged, some architectural decisions were already made. Having their input upstream would have been valuable

Our software isn’t a project; it’s a continuous development process in which we need staff. Global Staffing Support has for the past 14 year played an important role in sourcing this staff. The team has continuously provided us with senior, medium, and junior C# .NET developers and senior and medium QA roles.

Global Staffing Support helped us to build a team of development and Q&A professionals that have finished sprints on time and raised our product quality to new levels. Our sales and consultancy teams have seen reliability to deliver on time and with quality rise. Important metrics to count on when making promises to customers and stakeholders enabling us to do better business for us and our customers.

We have short lines of communication between management, project management, HR, and us.

Are there any areas they could improve?

Playing a better role in the translation between different cultures are in certain situations proven to be points of improvement, however, this is generally a known thing with near- of offshoring.

Olga was great at finding the right people and setting everything up. She is polite, very fast and understands what we want. I would not want to switch. I think she is the main reason that we work with GSS.

If we ask for a certain role, they will offer us someone in a few hours/days and set-up a meeting fast. All other things, like invoices etc, are handled professionaly and clearly.
