What challenge were you trying to address with FusionWorks?

We needed support with our software development and UI/UX design.

What was the scope of their involvement?

FusionWorks provides us with a team of in-house developers. They’ve supported us from a DevOps perspective and developed our mobile application. The Fusion Works designed our app from scratch using Figma and developed it using Python and Node.js. 

The app consists of the frontend interface for the end users and the backend administrative dashboard for our sponsors. We plan to develop another app for administrative-level users eventually. Additionally, FusionWorks has supported us in setting up our cloud-based hosting. 

What is the team composition?

I work with four teammates from FusionWorks, including their project manager, a UI/UX designer, and a backend developer. 

How did you come to work with FusionWorks?

I found FusionWorks through a referral.

How much have you invested with them?

We’ve invested around $65,000–$80,000 with FusionWorks. 

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working together in January 2022, and our partnership is ongoing.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

We work based on project completion, milestones, and software functionality. FusionWorks has met our expectations.

How did FusionWorks perform from a project management standpoint?

We have a monthly budget with FusionWorks, and they stay on budget for the most part. There’s been a couple of times where we’ve gone over budget and other times under budget, so it hasn’t been an issue. 

We communicate closely, stay active on Slack, and have a weekly sync through Google Meet. We use Jira and Confluence for project management.

What did you find most impressive about them?

FusionWorks’ confidence in their abilities has impressed me the most. I’ve worked with outsourced developers before, and sometimes, they say they can do something, but then the budget ends up exploding because they hadn’t done it before. This is not the case with FusionWorks. 

Moreover, FusionWorks' team can operate autonomously. They can keep moving on if they get stuck based on their understanding of best practices. They do their own research and don’t wait for me to micro-manage. 

Are there any areas they could improve?

The only thing I would change is that I’d like to have more resources available. We only have their developers on certain days, and I know this is related to our budget. If we had more budget, we could have access to more resources. 

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Spend a lot of time upfront planning and building the prototype first. We didn’t do it from the beginning, but once we did, it helped illuminate the process to understand what we did and didn’t want.

We hired a developer to be completely integrated in our PHP team to help with the development of our BE and API systems. Our goals were to ensure that we got the application up and running.

I was able to meet them in person in Moldova after a recommendation from a mutual contact. This gave me a lot of confidence in the scale and strength of their operation.

The scope of the work was quite large but key deliverables were:

• App settings
• Email notification systems
• Cloudwatch for logs
• API development system
• The key technologies used were PHP (Phalcon), AWS, Git.

Over the course of the year we have 2 people who were part of the core BE development team. They brought a lot of experience to the team which was excellent!

Completion of V1 of the application.

We communicated via slack and managed the project on GitHub. We usually worked in 2-3 week sprints.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

Their communication was excellent and they were very understanding about the situations we found ourselves in. There is a reason we hired 3 developers over the course of 18 months from FusionWorks

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

Work quality was great. I think there could have been a check-in on a more regular basis to also understand the feedback they are getting from their developers about the work they are doing.

I'm the marketplace manager of an online retailer.

For what projects/services did your company hire FusionWorks, and what were your goals?

We were looking to expand the core capabilities of our marketplace framework by developing new features such as advanced order management, integrations with couriers, integrations with billing software,e tc.

How did you select this vendor and what were the deciding factors?

Fusionworks team had previous experience with building apps specifically for the ecommerce industry and quickly understood our pain points.

The project started with the scoping phase of about 2-3 weeks, during which Fusion Works gathered all the specifications and requirements for the project. After receiving and approving the cost estimation, work commenced. It began with 1-2 weeks of onboarding of the Fusion Works developers on our marketplace platform (VTEX) and getting them accustomed with its specifics. From this point forward the team was pretty autonomous and the project manager was doing a great job.

The project was delivered within two months and we also had a hyper-care period of one month for bug fixing. The team delivered the order processing module from scratch. It included order management features including fulfilment, cancellation, returns, billing, shipping, etc.

At any given point in time we had between 2-3 senior developers, 1 QA and 1 Project Manager.

Can you share any measurable outcomes of the project or general feedback about the deliverables?

We were happy with the outcome and the app went into production for use by vendors. We had no complaints so far.

Tools used: Jira, GitHub, Slack. Initially we had bi-weekly meetings but then moved to weekly meetings to conserve time.

The founder's implication was great. We were impressed with their strong project ownership. The team was interested in being efficient and not dragging the project for long to increase costs.
