OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE
What specific goals or objectives did you hire FNX Group - TYPO3 agency to accomplish?
- Upgrade the TYPO3 platform from an outdated, unsupported version to TYPO3 12 LTS to ensure security, stability, and a future-proof technical foundation.
- Implement a CDN (Content Delivery Network) to eliminate load time delays caused by a single Swiss origin server, ensuring consistent page speed for users across all global regions.
- Improve website performance and Core Web Vitals scores. Our Google PageSpeed Insights scores had deteriorated to 22/100 on mobile and 57/100 on desktop — well below acceptable thresholds for a B2B website operating at our scale.
- Fix the unscalable multilingual, multisite, multi-regional TYPO3 CMS architecture. Our website serves customers across 14 country-specific versions plus a Global default region, with approximately 98% of content shared across all of them. The remaining 2% — regional contacts, localised messaging, market-specific content — should be simple to manage. Instead, our legacy TYPO3 content tree architecture made it nearly impossible. Every non-shared content element was duplicated 14 times within a single shared page tree, with no labels, no content previews, and no way to distinguish one duplicate from another without manually opening each entry. Rendering the correct regional content on the correct country site depended entirely on custom filtering scripts — a fragile dependency that prevented editors from adding unique content elements. Creating region-specific landing pages or country-exclusive content was simply not possible. What should have been routine content management had become a time-consuming, error-prone operational burden for our marketing and web team.
- Establish a long-term managed services partnership covering ongoing TYPO3 development, maintenance, and backup & disaster recovery (DRC).

Describe the scope of work in detail. Please include a summary of key deliverables.
The engagement was structured across two phases, the first being a fixed-scope replatform and optimisation project, the second an ongoing managed services partnership.
Phase 1 — TYPO3 upgrade, performance optimisation & CMS architecture restructure (February–May 2024):
The work followed a deliberate sequence. FNX Group began with the TYPO3 LTS 12 upgrade — migrating the platform cleanly from the previous unsupported version to the current long-term support release, without disruption to the live production environment. This established the stable, secure, and future-proof technical foundation required for everything that followed.
With the platform upgraded, FNX Group tackled the performance layer comprehensively. They implemented a CDN (Content Delivery Network) — a globally distributed server infrastructure that uses intelligent routing to serve each user's request from the geographically nearest node. This eliminated the latency problem caused by our Swiss origin server for users in distant regions. They introduced automatic image compression and cropping to reduce page payload, implemented full-page and object-level content caching to eliminate unnecessary server-side regeneration on repeat page visits, applied server-side code file compression, resolved the layout shift issues that were driving our poor CLS score, and applied additional advanced front-end and back-end optimisation techniques. The combined effect was a substantial improvement across all Core Web Vitals metrics and a dramatically faster experience for users globally.
Finally, FNX Group redesigned our TYPO3 content tree architecture from the ground up. Each country version and the Global default region now has its own fully independent branch within the TYPO3 page tree. Shared content elements are managed as references — meaning an edit made once on the Global branch propagates automatically to every regional site, while region-specific content can be created, edited, or removed freely and independently. The CMS admin panel now reflects the actual structure of the live website. The dependency on custom filtering scripts was eliminated entirely. For the first time, our team can create unique pages and content for individual country markets without technical workarounds.
Phase 2 — Ongoing managed services SLA (June 2024 – present):
Following successful project delivery, we made the decision to retain FNX Group as our long-term TYPO3 technology partner. Under a comprehensive SLA active since June 2024, FNX Group provides continuous website development, proactive maintenance services, and backup & disaster recovery (DRC) for our entire web platform. They are, in effect, our external TYPO3 engineering and operations team
RESULTS & FEEDBACK
What were the measurable outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?
The TYPO3 LTS 12 migration was completed successfully, on time, and with zero disruption to the live website. Page load times improved significantly across all regional versions of the site, driven by CDN implementation and the comprehensive front-end and back-end performance optimisation work. Core Web Vitals scores — particularly CLS — improved substantially, positively impacting both user experience and our organic search visibility. Our content management workflow is now aligned with how the website actually works: editors operate in a clean, logical CMS structure, regional teams have genuine content autonomy, and the operational burden of managing 14 country sites has been reduced considerably — translating into real time and cost savings for our marketing team.
Most importantly, the quality and reliability of FNX Group's work gave us the confidence to extend the relationship well beyond the initial project. Since June 2024 they have been managing our TYPO3 platform continuously — handling active development, maintenance, and disaster recovery. For an international B2B company that depends on its website as a primary commercial channel, that ongoing trust is not given lightly.
Describe their project management. Did they deliver items on time? How did they respond to your needs?
The project was managed end-to-end through Redmine, with clearly defined tasks, transparent progress tracking, and regular updates that kept our team fully informed at every stage. FNX Group delivered the project on time and within the agreed scope. Throughout the engagement, their team was consistently responsive and proactive — raising potential issues early, adapting quickly to our feedback, and approaching the collaboration as a genuine partnership rather than a transactional vendor relationship. For an international company coordinating across different time zones and internal stakeholders, that level of reliability and communication made a real difference.
