I’m the marketing coordinator for a protein manufacturing company. We manufacture, supply, and distribute protein.

What challenge were you trying to address with Falcn Lab?

We brought them on to manage our website. Our site was built by a third party. Unfortunately, our relationship with them was dissolved so we needed someone else to take over.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Falcn Lab is maintaining and upkeeping the site for us. They handle any features we want to add. Our site was written on Ruby on Rails and hosted on a Linux server.

What is the team composition?

At first, we worked with two team members, and then we started working directly with a Ruby on Rails developer.

How did you come to work with Falcn Lab?

I was searching online and saw some positive reviews about Falcn Lab so I gave them a call. It was a bit of a challenge to find a website management company that would handle a Ruby on Rails site. We were looking for someone who knows the language and knows how to edit. Falcn Lab had all those things.

How much have you invested with them?

We’ve invested between $3,000–$4,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

Our ongoing engagement started around October 2020.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We didn’t skip a beat during the transition or website launch. Everything has maintained a status quo. Falcn Lab is responsive and quick; they do great work. They’re priced right and aren’t jerking us around. I’d recommend them to anyone who needs any type of website work.

How did Falcn Lab perform from a project management standpoint?

We primarily communicate through email. I always hear back from them within an hour, if not earlier. Their team is super responsive. I’ve been happy with the fantastic communication. Falcn Lab is very on top of things.

What did you find most impressive about them?

A lot of other companies will just do what they need to cover what we’re paying them and then they won’t go anywhere above the bare minimum. However, Falcn Lab goes above and beyond for us. They’ve been on point.

Are there any areas they could improve?

We had an issue with one of the sites that had an e-commerce aspect to it. Falcn Lab was getting a little bit lost in the coding. We got a little hung up on that and our internal IT team member worked with Falcn Lab to move that forward. Other than that, things have been great.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Work with them, they’re great. They seem like a smaller team which is good. It’s been nice to work with the owners so we know who we’re working with and we’re not just getting passed around. Falcn Lab is an expert. They’re friendly and willing to help.

BACKGROUND

Please describe your company and your position there.

I’m the founder of a digital healthcare company connecting Chinese cancer patients to top U.S. oncologists through a virtual consultation platform. This is the first solution of its kind in China, and we work strictly on a B2B model, collaborating with hospitals in China and the U.S.

For what projects/services did your company hire Falcn Lab?

In order to achieve our business goals, we needed a tech platform. My background is in technology, but I didn’t have the skills to code the entire product. I had the vision, but I needed a team to build the platform.

What were your goals for this project?

To built a comprehensive EHR integrated with DICOM viewer and Video chat features.

SOLUTION

How did you select this vendor?

I looked on Upwork and similar platforms to find an agency. I interviewed 5–6 firms, including Chinese and Indian ones. The biggest factor was communication, and it proved difficult for me to share my vision with some of them. I

got in touch with FalcnLab's Sr. product manager, who was responsive and understanding. He turned all my needs and requirements into detailed documents within days.

In their proposal, they divided the project into 6–7 milestones, mentioned which technologies they’d use, and explained the whole process. They were thorough and convincing, so I hired them.

Describe the project and the services they provided in detail.

We worked with a wire-framing specialist who created clickable designs based on our requirements. Two designers then created every page of the platform across 3–4 iterations. After that, a database specialist and two developers began working on the actual product. They used an open-source API called TokBox, which was customized according to our needs.

Through it, we can have up to 12 people in a joint conference call for a consultation. It also gives the platform screen-sharing and chat functionalities. Through an API called FullCalendar, doctors can manage their schedules, and patients can see the available physicians.

The interface is both in English and Chinese. We used a MySQL database, and the overall site is based on AngularJS and Node.js. After finishing the coding, FalcnLab handled the hosting process for AWS (Amazon Web Services) via a system administrator.

What was the team composition?

For our project, Falcn Lab provided us a six-person team, including a business analyst, project manager (the partner), team lead, designers, QA testers, and software developers. I worked with one of the developer and the team lead on a daily basis.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

Can you share any information that demonstrates the impact that this project has had on your business?

Upon implementing the DICOM and Video chat feature onto our platform, our users are seeing much better efficacy in both communicating virtually with the physicians as well as they(patients and physicians) were able to have easier access to the Pet/CT scans.

How was project management arranged and how effective was it?

For ticketing and documentation, they , but used Atlassian suite (Jira, Confluence, etc.) and for communication they used Slack/Teams. I have communicated with the Partner of the company on a weekly or biweekly basis and spoke to the team lead every other day via Skype chats. Overall, it was a seamless experience, because of their flexibility and willingness to always put their customers first.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

They have the experience, talented, hardworking, and willing to work extra hours when important deadlines were approaching. During the demo phase, they were in constant contact, in case we needed additional support. If we had a strict deadline and needed resources, they’d provide them as soon as possible. Also, this is the first service company I’ve worked with that doesn’t accept payment until the work has been approved.

Are there any areas for improvement?

Their work ethic is great, but there were a few instances where they have underestimated the delivery time of tasks and those estimates were a bit off. The team had to work a few late nights and put in extra time to finish the tasks within the scheduled time. It would be nice if the team can estimate and communicate the complexity of those tasks more precisely.
