I am a professor at a higher learning institution.

What challenge were you trying to address with Evenset Inc.?

I was the local chair for an international conference, and we needed a website that was independent of the institution’s website and outside of my domain.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

I had an initial discovery meeting with Hesam [CEO and co-founder], he suggested ways we could organize the website. He created a fee schedule so that we knew what to expect, which allowed us to help plan our budget as well. He managed the content throughout the site. It was an ongoing effort over the duration of the collaboration posting our information on the website, and also the information that I gathered from conference participants. I also created the schedule for the presentations, and Hesam updated the schedule with changes. He received documents from me, put them in the right format, and then up on the website. The website was built from scratch, and they helped to manage the website for the entire event.

People needed to submit abstracts for what they wanted to present in the conference. I was able to go into the system to see what was submitted and what needed to be revised. For the submission of abstracts, people also needed to register for the conference. The two were connected, which was good to ensure that people were registered when they submitted the abstract. Hesam was able to make both available, and I was able to see what was there during the time just before the conference.

Managing the registration was a big task, as there are people from different countries who had different ways of submitting the information and make the payment, but this was something that Hesam was able to help with.

We had one gala dinner event, the social event for this conference. Hesam posted several nice photos of the venue. He created the image on the website as well, which was solely his design with no input from me. Evenset suggested appropriate photos and videos and were resourceful in finding this information and creating images that suited the site and targeted our audience.

What is the team dynamic?

We were only in contact with Hesam. I met his team, but all communication went through him, and he was very responsive.

How did you come to work with Evenset Inc.?

My assistant had contacted two or three other firms, but Hesam was the most knowledgeable and understanding of our needs. He was the best choice for us because he understood what our event was all about. As a former student, he knew what we were looking for, so it was easier to ask him to create this work as something that he was already a part of. We felt the fee structure he suggested was reasonable and close to our budget, which was also important for us.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working together in October 2015, and the project was completed in June 2016.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

The website helped with a number of things. Participants were able to find the information they needed on the website from anywhere in the world. Many attendees wanted to know what was being provided, and the website was very helpful for people to gather up-to-date information. The website helped to bring interest for people to attend as an observer as well, and not just as a presenter.

As an independent vendor, Hesam was very helpful with this project. We were able to create something that was not restricted to what the institution would allow us to do.

How did Evenset Inc. perform from a project management standpoint?

Hesam is very responsive. Whenever we needed something, even though they were really busy, they would try to meet the deadline. He prioritized our needs according to what we considered urgent and accommodated whatever we needed to get done. He is very good at responding to that type of request.

What did you find most impressive about them?

If anyone asks for a recommendation of a company that can design a customized website, Evenset is the group to go to. They did all the research to find nice stock photos and videos that related to the event and attracted people’s interest, and I found this very useful. They provided exactly the help I was hoping for from a web developer. They go over and above what people want and bring creativity to the project. They are unique and have an innovative approach to bring attention to people navigating the website.

Are there any areas they could improve?

Not that I can think of. They were really helpful, and I think they will do very well. They are an excellent choice for clients who are looking especially for more of an academic type of website.

We were looking to develop a software solution.

What was the scope of their involvement?

They work with us to define the requirements of what we’re looking for in data collection, storage, user management, and analysis. 

What is the team dynamic?

Our contact was Hesam [Founder, Evenset]. He understands the requirements and breaks down the development process to his 3-person team.

How did you come to work with Evenset?

We worked with another software development firm prior to working with them. We also looked at 2 other companies but chose Evenset because they had experience working on a similar application. It was easy to make the choice based on their past work.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working together in May 2017. The first phase is complete and we’ll continue to use them for all the phases of this product.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Even though we recently released the product, I think it’s still early as it has a long cycle until it actually ramps up but it has gotten good feedback from users thus far. Their coder is very professional and has the necessary experience to understand what we’re looking for. There’s a lot of industrial knowledge that goes into the product’s design, and Evenset has been able to handle it. We’re happy with their service.

How did Evenset perform from a project management standpoint?

Compared with other companies that we work with, they’re above average. They’ve delivered on time and on budget while meeting our testing requirements. We exchanged the specification documents in person before each sprint.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Their willingness to adapt to our changes and requirements has been impressive, as well as their speed and effective implementation method. They’ve also been flexible to make changes to the scope.

Are there any areas they could improve?

No. We’re satisfied with their service but will see if the development was solid as we expect further down the road.

Be clear on your requirements and make change decisions as early as possible.

Skylight Tools is an online tool for homeowners working on major renovation projects. We are a pre-funding-stage startup. I am one of the founders of the company and run all product management.

What challenge were you trying to address with Evenset Inc.?

We needed to build a working prototype for fundraising, as well as for attracting real customers.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Evenset has built our website from scratch using the Django Python framework. The platform allows homeowners, architects, and collaborators to communicate online, upload photos, create milestones, create payment schedules, and so on. It also has payment functionalities, working with third-party APIs. It's a frontend-heavy solution, but it also has database complexity.

How did you come to work with Evenset Inc.?

I believe that I found Evenset through a web search. We were specifically looking for companies in Toronto.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working with Evenset in July 2016. We have an ongoing relationship.

Could you share any evidence that would demonstrate the productivity, quality of work, or the impact of the engagement?

Evenset is great at meeting deadlines and communicating requirements and suggestions for our work. The quality has been high. 

How did Evenset Inc. perform from a project management standpoint?

Evenset is strong regarding project management and communication. The team is detail-oriented, which is also true for me. We've been able to interface well, tracking lists of issues. Whenever Evenset committed to a deadline, they did everything possible to meet it. Not everything was on-time, but the performance has been above other developers we've used.

What did you find most impressive about Evenset Inc.?

We've changed directions, as startups tend to do, and Evenset has been agile in conforming to us.

Are there any areas Evenset Inc. could improve?

More documentation would be helpful.

We provide a software product tailored to nursing homes, consisting of a wearable sensor that notifies caregivers.

I was the chief technology officer of the company. After the company was sold, I became the head of the technology development. The key function of my position was to ensure that we did development properly.

What challenge were you trying to address with Evenset?

We needed to develop our server-side coding infrastructure.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Evenset built our Django backend server infrastructure, as well as the iOS caregiver notification interface using ReactJS. The system is hosted on Amazon Web Services, and we have also used Amazon RDS and DynamoDB. Evenset is responsible for provisioning and managing the entire service.

How did you come to work with Evenset?

We were initially going to hire someone full time, but Evenset responded to our post. We saw them as a good fit and went on from there.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working with Evenset 11 months ago. We are about to begin another iteration of the product development, and will likely work with Evenset again.

Could you share any evidence that would demonstrate the productivity, quality of work, or the impact of the engagement?

For our purposes, the quality was fine. We ran our own tests on Evenset's deliverables, on top of their own tests. We found the process to work well. 

How did Evenset perform from a project management standpoint?

We were never significantly delayed on anything, which was pleasant, but Evenset always finished the work immediately before deadlines. Working in software, I have gotten used to tolerating delays, so Evenset's ability to make estimates was surprising. It was a combination of splitting things into small segments and having a collaborative test procedure.

What did you find most impressive about Evenset?

We've appreciated how much Evenset cared about the product. They were aligned with our vision, which was the main reason for wanting to hire an internal resource. We wanted to find someone who believed in our mission and wanted to see it become a reality.

Are there any areas Evenset could improve?

The main area for improvement comes from the fact that medical devices require more rigorous testing than what Evenset was used to. The overall development process needed to be mainly driven by us, in terms of documentation and decisions on architecture. We've needed to make sure that all checkpoints were met.

Personal meeting within healthcare conference. They had invested in our digital health space and know best practices.

Build website and React Native mobile app for iOS and Android within 60 days for dev, testing, and production.

What was the team composition?

Project manager, UX/UI, and React dev.

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

Mobile app on React Native completed quickly with limited bugs. Production support continued for four months for additional feature development.

They had a very good workflow.
