BACKGROUND

Please describe your company and position.

I am the Founder & CEO of Batesly

Describe what your company does in a single sentence.

Batesly is a legal practice management platform built to replace fragmented, folder-based legacy systems. Designed around the principle of making "the case the center of gravity," the platform natively links Microsoft Word drafting, dynamic calendaring, billing, and IOLTA trust accounting into a single, connected workspace for solo practitioners and mid-sized law firms.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What specific goals or objectives did you hire Elevate Code to accomplish?

Advanced Feature Integration: Build high-complexity tools, including direct in-app Microsoft Word editing, full-text OCR search, and automated workflow triggers.
Enterprise Security & Compliance: Implement AES-256 encryption, TLS 1.3, multi-factor authentication, and matter-level ethical walls to meet legal privilege requirements and SOC 2 Type II standards.
Production & Launch Execution: Deliver a high-performing, commercial-ready platform to support our beta rollout and Founding Firm onboarding.
Codebase & Security Audit: Perform a comprehensive review of the legacy codebase to identify security vulnerabilities, architectural bottlenecks, and compliance risks.
Ground-Up Platform Rebuild: Execute a total architectural overhaul, rebuilding the web application from scratch on modern, scalable cloud infrastructure.
Core Systems Development: Engineer a case-centric data framework that natively connects document management, dynamic calendaring, timekeeping, and IOLTA trust accounting.

Describe the scope of work in detail. Please include a summary of key deliverables.

Elevate Code was initially brought on to perform a comprehensive security and architectural audit of our existing codebase. After evaluating the system, they identified critical technical debt and advised that a ground-up rebuild was necessary to support our performance and security needs. They took over full-stack engineering, database architecture, UI/UX implementation, and cloud infrastructure to rebuild the entire platform from scratch.

Key Deliverables:

Codebase Audit & Strategic Roadmap: Conducted an end-to-end code and security audit, delivering a detailed assessment that defined the technical strategy for the rebuild.
Case-Centric Platform Architecture: Engineered a complete database and backend redesign where the case serves as the central hub, natively linking documents, contacts, deadlines, tasks, and financial entries.
In-Platform Word Editing: Built a native Microsoft Word integration that allows users to edit and format documents directly inside the application without download/re-upload cycles.
Document Intelligence & OCR: Developed a full-text OCR indexing engine and AI classification tools, built with explicit technical guardrails to ensure client data is never used to train AI models.
Legal Financials & Dynamic Calendaring: Implemented timekeeping, custom invoicing, and IOLTA-compliant trust accounting with automated replenishment requests, alongside interactive calendar syncing that automatically adjusts linked task lists when court dates change.
Enterprise Security Infrastructure: Architected bank-level security features including AES-256 encryption at rest, TLS 1.3 in transit, matter-level ethical walls, mandatory MFA, and audit logging to support SOC 2 Type II compliance.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What were the measurable outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

Rapid Time-to-Market: Successfully rebuilt the entire platform from scratch and launched commercially in under five months (from onboarding in April 2026 to official launch in August 2026).
Enterprise Security & Zero Incidents: Completely eliminated legacy code vulnerabilities, implementing AES-256 encryption, TLS 1.3, and matter-level ethical walls with zero security breaches or outages.
SOC 2 Audit Readiness: Built and documented the security infrastructure required to put the platform on track for SOC 2 Type II compliance.

Describe their project management. Did they deliver items on time? How did they respond to your needs?

Timeliness & Velocity
- Elevate Code took on an ambitious mandate—rebuilding my entire platform from the ground up—and delivered a production-ready application in about 5-6 months, taking us from technical audit to commercial launch between April and August/September 2026. They met every major release milestone on schedule without compromising performance or security.
Communication & Process
- Their team integrated seamlessly into my daily operations. They communicated transparently via Slack for real-time technical alignment. I always knew exactly what was in development, what was up for review, and where every ticket stood.
Responsiveness & Adaptability
- Rather than pushing back on evolving requirements, Elevate Code stayed agile. They embraced my feedback loop. Whenever complex technical hurdles arose—such as engineering our in-app Microsoft Word editor—they immediately pivoted, brainstormed solutions, and executed without stalling the broader development roadmap.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

What sets Elevate Code apart is the rare combination of elite technical execution and genuine human warmth. Rebuilding an entire software platform from the ground up is an inherently intense process, but their team was exceptionally kind, personable, and patient with me every single day.

They never treated my project like just another ticket in a queue. Instead, they took the time to listen, explain complex engineering decisions with absolute patience, and work through every detail without ever making me feel rushed or spoken down to.

Their approachable, collaborative nature made them feel like true internal partners rather than an external vendor. Finding a development team with top-tier technical capability who are also deeply empathetic, kind, and enjoyable to work with is remarkably rare.

Are there any areas for improvement or something Elevate Code could have done differently?
