I am the CEO of Storytelling Media. We’re a website development company handling everything from design to marketing related to online work.

What challenge were you trying to address with Deligence Technologies?

I needed a developer who could handle the excess work we were getting. There were also items outside of our skill set. As a CEO, I can put on as many hats as I need to, but there come times when this becomes too complicated. The website is based on Joomla and I needed people familiar with how everything is installed on this backend. This is where Deligence fell in.

What was the scope of their involvement?

I use Deligence Technologies as an outsourced developer. I have 2 full-time developers and a project manager on their side.

We work with the World Health Organization (WHO), and our main project is TechNet-21.org, a social platform for people taking part in the cold-chain supply of vaccines. The website addresses the whole process, from reviewing prequalified WHO equipment, to offering users a forum and their own social network. Everyone has a profile and can send messages.

This is our only project with Deligence at the moment. I have a year’s contract with WHO with deliverables set out for each quarter. We try to add more features to the website and are going through a complete redesign at the moment. Deligence handles coding for me and I use another company for design. We mainly work in PHP, HTML, and CSS in terms of languages, as well as XLS specifically for one of the components.

I also needed someone specialized in open source systems. Deligence is in charge of developing new components and fixing bugs; I supervise everything and act as the middleman between the client and them. I control everything that goes on before the client sees it.

How did you come to work with Deligence Technologies?

I was already using a company for outsourcing and wasn’t happy with the quality of their work. I signed up to Upwork, Freelancer, or another similar site, and explained the project. Deligence stood out based on price and the work they had already done. I tested them on a couple of small tasks such as bug fixing and pages that I needed to have developed. I was satisfied with the quality of the work and chose to hire them. I’m now using 2 full-time developers and a part-time project manager in charge of tasks.

How much have you invested with Deligence Technologies?

The cost of their work for 2017 will probably be around $57,000–$60,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

I’ve worked with Deligence for at least 2 years, starting in 2014 or 2015. We started off with a monthly engagement using a single developer on an hourly basis.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

Could you share any evidence that would demonstrate the productivity, quality of work, or the impact of the engagement?

There are misunderstandings with any company, but on an overall basis, I haven’t had any issues with Deligence. If something goes wrong, they’re on it straight away. I’ve had times when we went through a process of working 7 days a week in order to fix issues, without charging me extra. When we’ve needed to make upgrades, Deligence proposed doing them over the weekend when there is more downtime.

They’re open and the quality of the work is very good. I couldn’t have continued working with the World Health Organization if Deligence’s standards weren’t high.

How did Deligence Technologies perform from a project management standpoint?

I manage the work through a Skype group featuring Deligence’s project manager and the 2 developers. We communicate on an hourly basis whenever anything needs to be done. We also use Teamwork.com as a project management system. It’s where I allow clients to input tasks and bugs. It’s a ticketing system which also tracks all the tasks we need to perform. Both the client and developers have complete freedom to make modifications. I don’t want to be the one holding things up by not passing on information, so the client can communicate directly with the developers if need be. Once tasks come in on the project manager’s Teamwork, we assign priorities to them based on which developers work on them.

The project manager manages all those tasks and answers any questions the developers may have. If he can’t answer something, he will come to me. I am the front for the client most of the time, making sure everything’s on schedule.

What did you find most impressive about Deligence Technologies?

The biggest quality that they have is flexibility. I haven’t found other companies who could be as flexible as Deligence for the same price.

They’re based in India and I’m based in Geneva. I needed a developer who could work on the same time zone as mine and have discussions with the client. Their team was definitely fine with this and split time without increasing prices, while the quality of the work remained just as good. The quality of the work and English level are also satisfactory.

Are there any areas Deligence Technologies could improve?

It can sometimes take their team a while to get into the mindset of the client and find out what they want. It can take a couple of emails for them to fully understand what I want, but not more than average.
