We worked with D-MAK on creating a dynamic step-by-step foot care video guide for our athletes around the world.

What were your goals for this project?

Up to 50% of Special Olympics athletes experience one or more preventable or treatable foot conditions that can affect their sports participation. Our goal was to create an easy to follow step-by-step video that teaches people with intellectual disabilities how to care for their feet.

The team at D-MAK worked closely with us on the creative idea behind this video, helped script the content in a way that is accessible for people with intellectual disabilities not just in the US, but around the world. The crew also conducted interviews that helped our athletes athletes speak with confidence and feel comfortable in front of the camera.

What was your vendors' project management or feedback process?

D-MAK provided a three-person filming crew, and a team of editors that worked alongside our communication team in post-production.

We are gearing up to launch this project in the coming months, and look forward to feedback that we are going to receive from athletes and partners around the world.

Each video was a digital tour and introduction into each one of our markets. The product team was flown out to each city; was given a shot list and returned the raw footage for deeper review. We then provided a storyboard with visual and VO content to be chopped together by their team. They worked early mornings and late nights with us on these pieces.

Their management was complimentary to our methods. They allowed us the creative space and provided recommendations to improve the piece when necessary and the right questions to prompt creative thinking.

They created long and short product videos. I was unfamiliar with the production process of making a video. Joe Forte (Owner, D-MAK Productions) was very helpful in walking me through the process and explaining what would take place. His crew was professional all the way.

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

We felt our product would be best launched on TV since it demonstrates so well, but we knew we needed a video to get the attention. When we submitted our product to HSN, we included the link to the video on YouTube. The quality was so good we received a "heads up" from them after their viewing.

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

Their production team showed up on time at the location, they set up quickly and efficiently and they followed a coordinated routine. We completed the shoot in less than six hours.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

I was very impressed with how well they edited and created the final product. I was at the filming. It didn't seem as fluid and coherent as the final product depicts. Even the two models I hired thought they looked better on the video than they did at the shoot.

No, we’re very happy with the process and the result.

We needed a set of videos to highlight our upcoming, limited-time offerings. We gave D-MAK a brief of our initial ideas and D-MAK gave great feedback to optimize them. Once the creative strategy was determined and we delivered some initial assets, D-MAK produced the videos quickly.

During the video creation process, our brand team had a number of edits, and D-MAK was always able and willing to make them. They were very easy to work with on the editing process.

We’re still releasing our campaigns, but all the videos have received strong engagement on our social channels. They’ve also generated thousands of views, helping drive the success of our limited-time product offerings.

Joe (Owner, D-MAK Productions) and Danny (Founder, D-MAK Productions) did an outstanding job lending their expertise and executing our vision. They were extremely professional, worked within our timeframe, and always provided feedback and suggestions to make the videos better.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

Our team had quite a few edits and product updates, but D-MAK was able to pivot on ideas and deliver a great final product. Many production teams have problems making large edits, but D-MAK was very capable.

If there was a true problem, it was that our team responded a bit slowly. D-MAK did a great job of working with our timeline and getting things done.

I’m the vice president of marketing for a communications company that delivers cloud-based solutions for businesses, enterprises, and other clients.

What challenge were you trying to address with D-Mak?

We hold various events throughout the year for our partners and our providers. They’re educational and fun and also used for recruiting. We use D-Mak to record those events, from both a promotional and training perspective, using video and still shooting. They edit the recordings and make 1- to 3-minute clips for us, which we use on our website and for recruiting.

What was the scope of their involvement?

We don’t do television, but advertising for us means promoting our company so we can recruit new sales agents. We’ve worked with D-Mak on at least a dozen projects. We contract with D-Mak and let them know what the event is going to entail and how long we’ll need them. They usually show up with several people on the team. They do both video and still shooting, as well as the post work. They usually have a quick turnaround of up to a week. Typically, the final videos are around 2 minutes in length.

How did you come to work with D-Mak?

We’re both located in Scottsdale, Arizona. I’m sure other companies were reviewed at the time, but once we started working with D-Mak, we didn’t need to look anywhere else. Their quality and pricing are great. They really understand our company culture, so we don’t have to spend a lot of time reviewing things with them. They understand what we need, and they just do it.

It’s definitely over $25,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

We’ve worked together for at least 2–3 years, but I’ve only been with the company for the past 1.5 years. D-Mak is currently compiling a highlight reel of all our events, so the relationship is ongoing.

Could you share any evidence that would demonstrate the productivity, quality of work, or the impact of the engagement?

I don’t have any quantitative data, but we have received feedback from people who see the work. They say that the videos capture our culture perfectly, and they’re always upbeat and look professionally produced.

How did D-Mak perform from a project management standpoint?

We have a pretty basic project management process. We request a bid, they give us a price, they show up and do their work, and they produce an end product. If we need to tweak it, they’re accommodating. Although the work is not very in-depth from a project management perspective, in terms of performing the functions they were hired to do, D-Mak does a great job. They have great communication and conduct themselves with professionalism while they’re shooting on-site.

What did you find most impressive about D-Mak?

When you’re hosting an event, the recording should be really in the background. People don’t want to feel uncomfortable or in the spotlight. D-Mak stays on the sidelines, capturing the essence of what we do and how we do it without making their presence overt.
