I’m a consultant and director at Boston Studies Group, a planning research consulting group.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with Crystalaxis Technologies?

I have an architecture background, but I needed someone who could translate it into a really impressive website using the technologies available at that time. I was looking for a designer who would put my idea into proper shape.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Crystalaxis developed a custom website with many components, including images, text, data, and profiles, to a certain degree. I provided the content and some ideas as to what the site should look like in a basic PowerPoint presentation. The deck described how I wanted it to look graphically, including photographic images, maps, and charts.

At that time, we were pretty new to this particular area, and they were able to organize extremely well. They also gave me feedback as to how I could better organize my product in terms of the technologies. Crystalaxis did some optimization as well, showing me how to structure the site in such a manner that it would rank higher on search engines.

Built with some JavaScript, the website was delivered at the end of 2010. We did some trial runs, and it was up and running by 2011. They do continuing maintenance.

What is the team composition?

We’ve worked with 2–3 people. My point of contact is Asela (Project Manager).

How did you come to work with Crystalaxis Technologies?

He was introduced by a mutual friend.

What is the status of this engagement?

We’ve been working together since June 2010.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

People warned me when I did this particular site that maintenance would cost a lot because it’s data-driven, which makes updates time-sensitive. Crystalaxis is able to make changes when I request them. This is a key measure of success for me.

They were extremely good in giving feedback regarding I could better project myself with regard to what I’m trying to do. I hope to update the site in the coming months this year with iOS compatibility and some other factors.

How did Crystalaxis Technologies perform from a project management standpoint?

I don’t have any person-to-person contact other than conversing over Skype, phone, or email.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Crystalaxis is very flexible, as well as extremely cost-effective. They’re really responsive to updates and corrections that I want to do. Once, I needed material updates made in my data sets, and they were able to do it promptly within a few hours. Their turnaround time is extremely quick.

Crystalaxis has an extremely high knowledge base for these particular digital technologies in terms of web design, launch, maintenance, and site efficiency.

Are there any areas they could improve?

I don’t have anything to say. Crystalaxis is going to a higher scale — I saw a website they recently designed, and it’s top of class. They’re very much expanding into different platforms and handheld devices as well.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Be organized regarding the type of information you have and who your target audience is. Additionally, it helps to show examples of what you’d like to have in terms of visual quality.
