I’m the director of software engineering at an asset-tracking company. We manufacture and sell asset-tracking devices, which our customers use to track assets anywhere in the world.

What challenge were you trying to address with Crunchloop?

We needed help building part of our software platform, which was pivotal for the tracker information side of our business.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Crunchloop has built different parts of our architecture and platform. They’ve even helped us set up the platform. For context, in the asset-tracking industry, a piece of hardware goes out and sits in the assets of our customers. That tracker sends a signal depending on the frequency required, and that signal has to come from a central system so that customers can track or locate assets. 

Our software architecture's critical component receives and processes that signal regularly. Then, it prepares the data to be used in further downstream customer-facing apps or our BI analytics.

Crunchloop is helping us take the next step to modernizing and adding features to the platform. This way, we can do more and create value for customers. They’ve also built customer-facing apps and worked on reports, analytics, and fundamental cloud platforms. 

What is the team composition?

We work with Pablo (Information Systems Engineer) and Gustavo (Software Engineer). Historically, we’ve collaborated with team leads and mobile app developers. Ivan (CTO & Founder) and Damian (COO & Co-Founder) have also worked with us before. The team composition changes as the nature of work and technical paradigm change. 

How did you come to work with Crunchloop?

Part of the engagement predated me. At a certain point, we were looking to strengthen our team with external support and contractors. Our organization searched and found Crunchloop, and they were already working with the company when I joined it. They earned the company's trust, so we were happy to continue working with them. 

What is the status of this engagement?

The partnership started in October 2020, and it’s ongoing.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

We’ve increased the size of our business without increasing costs too much, which is a testament to Cruncloop’s work in designing and architecting our solution. We have KPIs such as cost per unit, ability to move fast, and other engineering metrics. The team has been successful in meeting these metrics.

How did Crunchloop perform from a project management standpoint?

We haven’t required any direct project management from Crunchloop since their engineers are part of our scrum team, where one of my team leads is the scrum master. In other words, the project management expectations are dealt with by my team lead. 

Nonetheless, our collaboration with Crunchloop has been smooth. Their engineers have the transparency and willingness to make things work, and in our scrum team, transparency, collaboration, and communication are pivotal to keep making progress. We use Microsoft Teams for communication and Jira as a task management tool.

Are there any employees from the service provider's team that you would like to give a shout-out to in this review?

Ivan is a fantastic engineer who I can count on for technical and architectural advice on top of making progress on the platform. Damian, Pablo, and Gustavo have also been fantastic. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

Crunchloop has been in the business for years, and they have a vast knowledge of what we work on and how we operate as a company. As a result, they now feel like a part of our company. They’re as important as our internal teammates; they’re integral to us and have contributed much to our partnership. 

Moreover, they care and share their thoughts and ideas proactively, which gives me confidence that our team has the right resources. The Crunchloop team isn’t just order-takers; they think along with us and help us share the requirements. They ask the right questions so we can create the right product and improve as a company.

Over time, we’ve changed our technical stack and way of working. Crunchloop isn’t only agile but also helps us shape our work. They’ve helped us improve our software platform's velocity, quality, and stability. In other words, they have a direct influence and involvement in our success.

There was no system downtime during the transition, which is essential, as we are a 24/7 service provider.

The project scope was to develop an ecosystem of applications that would work together seamlessly to provide an exceptional user experience. The centerpiece of the project was a mobile application written in Flutter that would implement the new BLE specification, significantly improving performance compared to previous-generation protocols. Additionally, we developed a Ruby on Rails web application that supported data management while exposing a GraphQL API for the mobile application.

What were the measurable outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

• Thanks to Crunchloop's outstanding work, we were able to build our new system, which resulted in a greater range of functionalities for our sports industry clients. The project was a resounding success and surpassed our expectations.

They assigned a team with IoT and mobile development expertise to our project, enabling them to deliver a high-quality product in record time. I am the CTO of a fintech company called AlphaFlow. We buy and service loans from private lenders.

What challenge were you trying to address with Crunchloop?

We have a complicated product, so we wanted to bring someone in who wanted to learn and engage with the process to help us figure out how to make our business more efficient. 

We hired Crunchloop to help us build custom software that could accurately facilitate all of our data and transactions from the financial side of our business. We wanted to do this using Ruby on Rails.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

We brought Crunchloop in at the beginning of the project, so they are helping us build a new product. It is a line of credit product, focusing on giving lenders access to money while simultaneously being able to offload loans that we can purchase. 

One of the best features of the software is the accounting system that we’re building together. It keeps track of all money movement and all the interest that is accruing on the different sites that we have on the software. 

It’s a complex product, but we are trying to empower lenders so they can lend money and keep the lifecycle of their money. All of this is being built with Ruby on Rails. 

What is the team composition?

We work with Santiago and Martín (Co-Founders). We also work with two engineers, and one other person who helps with development. 

How did you come to work with Crunchloop?

We originally reached out to another company, but they were fully booked at the time. They recommended that we reach out to Martín. After speaking with him, we learned that we shared a similar philosophy when it came to software. We started working together soon after that.  

How much have you invested with them?

We have invested about $100,000 so far. 

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working together in June 2022, and it is ongoing.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

We are still in the building stages of the project, but they turn everything in on time and the overall speed of our team has increased. We were struggling to get things done before they stepped in, and now things are being delivered on time. We’ve increased our velocity by 300% with Crunchloop’s assistance. 

How did Crunchloop perform from a project management standpoint?

We are in different time zones, but they are always there when we need to check in or have a question. Communication between us is very easy, and they’re always ready to answer anything. They communicate outside of normal working hours, which makes things easier for us. 

We communicate through Slack, phone calls, Zoom, and email. We use Shortcut for ticket management, Productboard for product management, Whimsical for drawing up requirements, and Figma for the designs. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

They treat their employees with respect and want to put them in a position where they are going to succeed. They aren’t interested in just stepping in and going through the motions because they want to be a part of the project and help. They learn about the project and make sure the people they are assigning are a good fit, which is something unique about their company.

They are thoughtful in their approach, and they put in the time and effort to understand what the goals of the company are. They don’t rush into things, and their approach is methodical because they don’t just want to get the work done, they want to help make the system as efficient as possible. 

They are very engaged in the process, and nice people to work with. If there were more employees that we could hire from Crunchloop to be a part of our team, we would. 

Are there any areas they could improve?

We wish they had more people so that we could bring them onto our team because they provide such great work.  We have nothing else to complain about. 

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Be transparent because you can trust Crunchloop. Be straightforward about what you need them to do and the things that you want to improve on. Let them know what they are getting into, and be honest with them so that they have the whole picture of what you’re looking for.

I'm the VP of Engineering for RollKall, a company that provides software that provides off duty management for law enforcement officers and agencies.

For what projects/services did your company hire Crunchloop, and what were your goals?

Crunchloop was first brought in to handle advanced technical projects that my small staff was not geared to accomplish. I have since added Crunchloop personnel that are effectively taking the place of full-time employees on agile scrum teams.

SOLUTION

How did you select this vendor and what were the deciding factors?

I had previously worked for many years directly with the founders of this company and they are the most trustworthy and results oriented team I have experienced. So the choice of working again with them was very easy for myself.

To date the work I have had Crunchloop do was:

• Strengthen my Azure DevOps environment
• implement ephemeral testing environments, introduce Terraform, tighten security posture, improve SQL Server performance
• Implement Azure B2C for MFA functionality across RollKall's application ecosystem. This involved changes against our .NET api, frontend React code, and mobile apps built in React Native. This is being rolled out on time and in a phased manner to the external customer base and Crunchloop has strongly managed the Product Management side of this as well.
• Ongoing full stack work for an Agile Scrum team focused on payments that includes processing with Stripe via their API.

2 people are working with me from Crunchloop, 1 is a Staff Engineer that handles our most high need projects and 1 is a Sr. Full Stack Engineer working within an Agile Scrum team.

Can you share any measurable outcomes of the project or general feedback about the deliverables?

To date all work provided by Crunchloop has been of excellent quality and has helped alleviate previous obstacles to Sales opportunities. Their work is well regarded all the way up to the President of RollKall and my full time employees view our Crunchloop resources as invaluable experts in what they do that drive our work forward.

Their project management style is excellent as anyone doing development from Crunchloop also helps fill gaps as a project and/or product manager in many ways. They go out of their way to communicate and collaborate to the greater team via project documentation, Slack announcements, and regular product demos as examples.

It's impressive how quickly they get up to speed with our needs and technology and start to make a major difference very rapidly. All in a very professional and best practices manner as well.
