I was previously a project manager at a digitizing service provider.

What challenge were you trying to address with Contento Labs?

Since we didn’t have the capabilities in-house, we hired Contento Labs to assist with a digitization project.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

I led the project from my company’s side, giving them all of the inputs. We asked them to develop the front- and backend of the software using open-source technologies. Following the requirements, the team at Contento Labs developed and designed a workflow management software. It has multiple authentication facilities and an access client list for device management.

The first stage of the software involves scanning barcodes and then importing that information to a database. The second aspect consists of the digitization of legacy content, followed by QC and delivery. Every digitized piece of content has an ID.

When the delivery happens, there’s an option called “reconciliation of the billing part.” In the digitization project, billing happened monthly, and every asset had a particular cost. After that, an invoice could be generated. The software could match the physical and digital delivery.

Apart from that, it had a multiple server structure. A single server could be installed or configured, or modules and features could be split across different servers, to support enterprise project management.

What is the team composition?

I coordinated with the project manager from their team. I didn’t work with the development teams.

How did you come to work with Contento Labs?

After evaluating 2–3 companies, we chose Contento Labs to develop the software. We had a few commercial parameters and looked at their other projects. We picked Contento Labs because of their capability to deliver and business understanding.

How much have you invested with them?

The total cost was 1.8 million Indian rupees (approximately $25,200 USD).

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working with Contento Labs in the last quarter of 2016. The project was split into phases to save money. The first phase took eight months, and it was delivered in July or August 2017. Phase two began at the end of 2017, and it was finished in the second or third quarter of 2018.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

In the first phase, they delivered quality work a bulk of the time. They were up to the benchmark for phase two. Right now, we’re in discussions with them to develop our indexing software for disk archives.

How did Contento Labs perform from a project management standpoint?

They met a majority of deadlines, but there were a few payment delays from our side, which led to extended deadlines.

What did you find most impressive about them?

While they’re a relatively new company, their team has done some great projects in healthcare and other fields. I believe that they even received a grant from the Indian government to develop software. They’re on the attractive side when it comes to finances, and they’re up to the mark for the technical side.

Are there any areas they could improve?

Since they’re a small company, they don’t have a lot of people for escalated support. Contento Labs has 2–3 development engineers that spend their time with software. Catching them is a bit tough, so they could increase their software support side.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Contento Labs is an excellent resource for people looking to learn new technologies, ideologies, and support software.
