I am the Co-Founder / CEO Subscription and Asset Management company. We work with B2B Technology OEMs and Channel Partners.

We needed help building our web application, and we were looking to expand our programming team to work with a superior provider that we could trust, scale, and build a long-term relationship

How did you select this vendor and what were the deciding factors?

We connected with Codelogicx CEO Amitabh on Upwork. He initially did consulting work focusing primarily on the web application architecture, but it quickly became clear that he also owned a software development agency in Kolkata, India - one of many reasons why we chose him as our partner!

Describe the scope of work in detail, including the project steps, key deliverables, and technologies used.

CodeLogicx Team helped develop our platform from idea to design to production. It was very complicated and required deep knowledge of the Technology and Supply Chain industries. With the help of Codelogicx's CEO, he acted as the interim architect and program manager. He helped to assign the right resources, including Project Managers, 5 developers, and a QA tester, and slowly transitioned the role to them.

The PM was amazing! She quickly learned the different functions of the platform and was able to document and build use cases for the developers to code each of their modules. We also leveraged their UI developers.

How many people from the vendor's team worked with you, and what were their positions?

We have a total of 8 - 10 professional resources, including a Senior Project Manager, a QA Tester, and 6-8 web developers, depending on the workload and development needed.

Can you share any measurable outcomes of the project or general feedback about the deliverables?

The Codelogicx development team did an outstanding job completing the deadlines on time. The platform is in production and currently supports our enhancement and new features.

Describe their project management style, including communication tools and timeliness.

We meet with the project manager on a daily stand-up meeting using Scrum methodology. We go over yesterday, today, and tomorrow's activities and any outstanding issues. We use standard development tools such as Jira, Confluence, and Google tools for documentation and collaboration.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

Amit, the Codelogicx CEO, had built a company based on trust and great work ethics. Amit put together A-Team who took the time to learn and helped us build a complex automation and analytics platform from idea to production. The relationship building is what made this endeavor successful and continues to be strong.

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

Working with an offshore company has its own unique challenges. Time differences, holidays, and even cultural differences play a big factor in understanding our business challenges vs. their challenges. Whether you work with Codelogicx or any other development agency, keep those factors in mind to ensure project success.

I’m the CEO of Medzino Health. We are a direct-to-consumer digital health brand. Patients can connect to physicians for confidential consultations. If prescriptions are ordered, we have a pharmacy that can ship approved medications to the patient’s doorstep.

What challenge were you trying to address with Codelogic Technologies?

We were looking to expand our programming team through the use of offshore vendors.

What was the scope of their involvement?

They built custom EMR (electronic medical response) applications for our U.K and Germany brands, as well as our U.S. brand. They built the platforms from scratch using specific requirements we provided.

They did the logic for all of our websites, the user interface of the frontend, as well as custom dashboards in the backend for our doctor, pharmacy, and content teams. 

They built a customized CMS (content management system) specific to our needs that supports our frontend design.

What is the team composition?

Initially, the CEO acted as part-time project manager of one full-time and one part-time programmer. Once the relationship was established, the CEO took a step back. The current team has expanded to consist of a QA person, a project manager, and three programmers.

How did you come to work with Codelogic Technologies?

They responded to a job we posted on Upwork. We had several Skype calls before deciding to work together. We also vetted them through Clutch.

How much have you invested with them?

We’ve invested roughly $100,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

We began working together around 2018, and our relationship is ongoing.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

They are responsive to constructive feedback. Initial cultural differences and a language barrier posed some issues, but that has diminished over time. The relationship has grown and cemented over time.

The team is quick to learn the requirements we have, and they’re good at self-evaluation. If certain team members aren’t fitting our needs, they’ve made it easy to replace them with productive team members.

How did Codelogic Technologies perform from a project management standpoint?

The project manager is easy to communicate with. Communication overall had improved since the beginning of the engagement. Recently, we implemented weekly meetings. We use Slack, and Asana for project management.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They don’t shy away from custom technologies and coding. They have a keen interest in building applications based on custom code. Many of our requirements on our platforms are built from scratch to meet our specifications.

Are there any areas they could improve?

I would suggest more regular check-ins with their clients for review meetings and to make sure they’re aligned with requirements. It might help clear up issues that could get brushed under the rug. For example, we like to use PHP, so we prefer developers to follow a standard format for coding. Sometimes developers deviate from those standards.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Define the parameters and requirements at the beginning of the engagement. If you run into something that you need to be done differently, communicate with them. We began our communications with the CEO who speaks English well, and is experienced in software architecture and has sound technical knowledge.

I’m the founder of a microfinance company. We develop software for mobile users for a mobile wallet.

What challenge were you trying to address with Codelogicx?

We needed help building the app for desktop and mobile plus a website. We’re focusing on the Android platform.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

They developed the Android app from scratch, from idea to design to production. We’ve been live for one year and we keep developing the system. They built a complete system for loan transactions for mobile users in Africa. The user does a quick registration and creates an account, then they apply for their first loan. When they apply for their first loan, they need to submit an ID. We do some verifications instantly online, and some we do manually. As soon as we verify the customers, they receive $1. Then, if they make repayment in one week, they receive $3. If repayment is made in two weeks, they receive $5. Then they have five weeks to make repayment, then $10, $20, $30, $40, up to $3,000. If the user doesn’t make a payment, they don’t get any other loans. We also created a credit card system. As long as they’re making progress, they keep going up.

I work with the team on a daily basis, 24 hours a day. We have holidays, but I know they’re there because if something happens during holidays, they provide solutions. We work Monday through Friday. There are two resources from Codelogicx working for me full-time. One is an Android developer and one is a project manager. There are two assistants but they’re not working currently.

I found them on Upwork. I was impressed with them. The feeling and communication I got from them was much better than other companies.

How much have you invested with Codelogicx?

We’ve spent between $50,000 and $60,000 over the past year.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working with them since September 2015.

Could you share any evidence that would demonstrate the productivity, quality of work, or the impact of the engagement?

We’re right on track with my goals. They deliver everything I want. We have around 100,000 users and most of them are active. We have a goal to end the year with one million customers. We did a major upgrade in the last three months towards that end.

What did you find most impressive about Codelogicx?

They deliver exactly what I’m looking for. They understand my requirements well; I don’t need to say much.

Are there any areas Codelogicx could improve?

For me, the relationship has been good.

I am the owner of a criminal backgrounds screening company. We work with major Fortune 500 companies.

What challenge were you trying to address with Codelogicx?

Given my company’s services, I needed to be sure that I was working with a superior provider.  

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Codelogicx actually built 2 platforms for me. The first was our old website that houses data and runs background screenings. They also built a newer one that adds features such as uploading headshots and government IDs that interlock with law enforcement agencies. Codelogicx designed a platform that allows us to run reports, store data, and go into criminal files with different agencies. The system uses firewalls and has a built-in e-commerce capability and payment structure. Aside from website design, Codelogicx provided enhancements to software that would be used by the FBI & CNI and NCIC. Since we were working with law enforcement agencies, we had to ensure that there would be no security leaks.

We also work with telecom companies that promote residential marketing in various locations throughout the US and Canada. For these companies, Codelogicx developed a custom RESTful API within 3 months. They also built a subscriber self-site and URL that allows 1099 contractors to sign in as a candidate for hire to those companies.  

We’re in the process of enhancing a GPS tracking system for contractors’ smartphones. The solution will be in app and web form. Our client may deploy 300–400 subcontractors to hundreds of locations in North America. However, there is no way of checking whether those people are actually staying at a certain location. Codelogicx is designing a solution based on the needs of these companies. It was also influenced by my background since I used to work on kidnapping cases in California. We want to make sure that there’s nothing going on in someone’s home when a subcontractor comes in to install a product. When a contractor logs in, their location can be tracked 24/7 using headshots and GPS. The system has a backend master process that follows multiple teams.

How did you come to work with Codelogicx?

I found them through the owner of my development partner. She worked on another project with Amitabh Roy, the principal of Codelogicx, and put me in touch with him. We mapped out the process in the course of 7–8 months.

How much have you invested with Codelogicx?

The cost of their work has been over $100,000. If we have service work in addition to our monthly retainer, I am billed separately.

What is the status of this engagement?

The platform was completed in May 2010. I started working with Codelogicx 8 months prior to that. We pay Codelogicx on a monthly basis so that they are on call if we need anything.

Could you share any evidence that would demonstrate the productivity, quality of work, or the impact of the engagement?

Codelogicx executes things while making sure there are no snags, which is important in the type of work that we do. Going in and running an employment screening gets pretty complicated. On our website, everything is set up under a user identification that we call a “master,” under which are sub-users. There could be 30–60 sub-users who are organized into a pyramid or family tree. We have to make sure that we have different campaign codes based on the type of service provided. Some of the teams may be working for different telecom companies in multiple locations.

Here’s another example. The National Sex Offender Registry is a big deal. For example, we would do a head verification and check the driver’s license of a candidate. If that information doesn’t match the national archive directory for databases for Megan’s Law, the system prints out a picture of that person. It checks those websites and matches the identification with the headshot and the subscriber information that we put into the system. That’s all done within 15–30 seconds; that’s how fast Codelogicx’s program is rendering.

At one point, I needed to have something done while Codelogicx was working on another task for me. I tried to work with another company and asked them to build some of the sub-lining data linking the old website to the new one. Although they were very good at what they did, it was a nightmare for me. They didn’t know me, I didn’t know them, and there was a lot of back-and-forth as a result. 

How did Codelogicx perform from a project management standpoint?

Amitabh is our head developer, and he is the one who maps everything out for the rest of the team. He goes over the processing of data and ensures that things are running smoothly. We have daily conference calls on Skype. He is in India, but he is accessible to my company during our business hours until 1 in the afternoon. We can communicate after hours if I need him. On rare occasions, I can also get up at 2 in the morning. If I need to speak directly with Amitabh, I can do it directly via Google Hangouts, Skype, or email. A couple of my clients have also met him in person. 

Amitabh actually speaks several languages. That’s how good he is. At one point, a client sent us information in Japanese. Amitabh sent it to a friend of his who spoke fluent Japanese. However, this friend did not speak English or Punjabi, so they translated it into French. Fortunately, Amitabh speaks fluent French, so he then translated that from French into English. We were then able to program it onto our process, which I thought was absolutely phenomenal.

What did you find most impressive about Codelogicx?

I was impressed by their ability to understand the complexity of our project. It’s not just one description, it’s the complexity of how the project is formulated.

I’m the founder of TagFi, a social networking mobile app aimed at creating, joining, and organizing spontaneous group activities and meetups.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with CodeLogicx?

We hired their team to build our platform.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

We gave CodeLogicx basic UI screens. They designed and coded our application and also provided a lot of consultation.

The app is available for iOS and Android. It has a number of SDKs [software development kits], including a GPS component and a backend admin panel. We pull data from a number of APIs. I am not a technical person, so I can’t provide more information.

We had simple requirements initially. But, as we kept progressing, we added different things. CodeLogicx’ initially was involved in coding, but they also ended up working on the UI and APIs.

We have a pretty difficult web platform since it’s an end-to-end solution with 120 screens, a fully functioning calendar, event pages, countdowns, and all sorts of algorithms. We have a chat interface as well. We use fine filters to form these social meetups, and CodeLogicx has done an incredible job of understanding our needs and working with us to build the platform. Users can create profiles by which they’re identified and matched with not only other people but also with groups based on their interests.

The app also allows people to create groups in a series of steps on the basis of age, interest, and geolocation. It can provide recommended places but also allows users to choose their own. Finally, users can choose whether to have the groups open to all or private.

We’re looking to add a more dynamic chat feature, which is more of a message board. CodeLogicx has been accommodating with everything we needed. They assigned an equal number of developers for each platform. For our project, we had 2 head developers for iOS and Android, respectively, as well as a dedicated communication person who relayed requests to the developers.

How did you come to work with CodeLogicx?

We interviewed different companies through Upwork. CodeLogicx seemed solid and small enough to work with us without losing our project in the shuffle. They gave us the attention we needed at the time as a startup and assigned a special person for communicating with us and relaying our messages to the devs in Basecamp.

How much have you invested with CodeLogicx?

The cost of their work has been around $60,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working with CodeLogicx in September of 2016. The development is ongoing.

Could you share any evidence that would demonstrate the productivity, quality of work, or impact of the engagement?

CodeLogicx hasn’t been involved in marketing, although they do make some great recommendations. They’ve built a high-quality platform, as we’ve been told by potential investors. I know that the app functions well.

We’ve released a beta 30 days ago and have only seen a few bugs. Many people told us that the platform would be prone to crashing due to how complex it is, but I didn’t take their advice. We needed a number of features in order to facilitate live meetups, and CodeLogicx has been able to deliver a product with no or very few bugs. This is significant for a platform as heavy and refined as ours.

The app has received great reviews from NexWEB, Huffington Post, and Entrepreneur Magazine, and it has 5 stars on app stores. We lack the funding for getting it on its feet, but we’re working on that.

How did CodeLogicx perform from a project management standpoint?

They set up timelines that were adhered to with a 1- or 2-day margin. Any delays were out of their control, and CodeLogicx was great at meeting deadlines in general and following-up. Because of the time difference, they were able to accommodate us at odd times. We could literally call CodeLogicx in the middle of their night and report an issue. We’ve usually worked through Skype and Basecamp. They’re on top of their game and very organized.

What did you find most impressive about CodeLogicx?

Their team is responsive and very friendly. It’s not easy to find a company with a heart. Amitabh They didn’t nickel-and-dime us on any item, compared to other companies we’ve dealt with. If CodeLogicx believes in a product, they are 110% committed to it.

Are there any areas CodeLogicx could improve?

CodeLogicx has a wonderful team, and they have huge potential for growth. However, I like how they’re working now, and we want the continued attention.
