We hired Codeclusive to help develop our platform for engaging real estate communities with ability to vote on resolutions, report issues on real estate, book facilities, see their settlements and utilities bills. Our goal was to deploy the live platform for several real estates in Poland.

How did you select this vendor and what were the deciding factors?

Codeclusive was recommended to us by our business partner and after several interviews we knew that they will become a real partner in this startup adventure. They had already an experience in working with startups so that was a clear indicator for us that they will understand the way we’re operating.

The work involved creating a web platform for real estate administrators and mobile app for apartments owners to participate in the community. It had several functionalities we wanted to include in the sort-of-MVP version of the software which were

Technologies used for the project were Angular (web platform), Flutter (mobile app) and Firebase (for all backend).

We had help of 5 members of the vendor’s team - a very strong Senior Developer working mostly on Angular and Firebase, Junior and Regular Mobile App developers, Angular Developer and Project Manager.

Can you share any measurable outcomes of the project or general feedback about the deliverables?

We have met all the goals related to ever-changing nature of our business and we’ve actually delivered even more - our platform can now be used not only for communities of real estates but also for institutionalised rent provided by real estate developers.

The team accommodated requirements changes very easily and could deliver on a very tight schedule dictated by our ambitions to deliver as much value to our clients as possible.

We have used Google Suite for most communication (Google Chat + Google Meet), planned work in Jira and provided with technical description of things being developed in Confluence. We have worked in Sprints at the end of which we had a demo and feedback sessions.

Due to the nature of our business we needed to modify contents of sprints several times but we were still able to move the needle every single sprint and provide valuable additions to the platform at every stage.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

There are companies with a lot of stiff procedures and there are companies which work hand in hand with their business partners.  Codeclusive tried to understand the nature of our business first and adjusted their way of working with us. It has to have some limits but in general it’s a perfect set up for companies like ours.

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

We believe that they could’ve done even more work for us if it hadn’t been for constraints of a normal work day. They have put an incredible care and enormous effort into making our product suitable for our market. We just hope that in times of less constraints (chasing the market etc.) we will be able to work together in a slightly more relaxed way.

I’m the director of engineering for Daizy Tech, a data technology company. We’re an IoT SaaS platform that supports enterprise IoT. I’m involved with architecture decisions, team management, and building the platform.

What challenge were you trying to address with Codeclusive?

We had a need to accelerate our platform feature roadmap and wanted to spend the investment funding available to us. There were some features that were required around field-service, which involved a cross-platform mobile application. It also included some aspects of our main web portal application and core API. Therefore, we approached Codeclusive to ask for options for us to take on some of that work.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Codeclusive provided their available resources to work within our team closely. We onboarded one of their developers to complete feature pieces; there wasn’t a fixed timeframe, but it was around 12 months of work.

Our main focus was to improve the UX of field service installations and to include additional task types within the mobile field-service app. 

Codeclusive worked on the redesign to make the experience more fluid and engaging. They also helped us to match that experience in the online web portal.  Additionally, some work was involved with extending our core API to support these features.

Past the six-month point, there was additional integration and UI work within the web portal. They helped design and improve the UI to define configuring custom integrations with the platform.

What is the team composition?

We worked with two people. The director was in charge of overseeing the progress, and the developer worked directly with us.

How did you come to work with Codeclusive?

It was by chance and through word of mouth. I knew about them before I joined this company. Codeclusive didn’t exist at the time, but I met the founders. We engaged in a project, and they mentioned that they were starting the company. As soon as we needed their services, we picked up the phone.

How much have you invested with them?

We spent around £83,000+ (approximately $101,000 USD).

What is the status of this engagement?

We rolled a monthly contract in November 2020, and it finished in May 2022.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

The features were delivered on time. Moreover, we had positive user feedback from our customer base. We didn’t have any key performance indicators, but the work was carried out at a highly satisfactory level.

How did Codeclusive perform from a project management standpoint?

We didn’t want them to do much hands-on project management. In terms of oversight, they performed very well and did what we asked of them. Codeclusive engaged, kept regular contact with us, and did regular reviews.

We primarily communicated via Teams and Slack.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They were flexible and accommodating. Other agencies are more rigid or protective of their interests, whereas Codeclusive was pretty flexible with how we wanted to work. They would give and take on both sides of the contract, but they were extremely accomodating to what we needed.

Also, they were very responsive and immediately available. Even if they didn’t have the internal resource, it never took them long to deliver. They'd find high-quality candidates quickly, which was impressive. Moreover, we trusted them. Their input was highly professional and valuable when we talked about the project, recommendations, and their view on how we should approach things. In general, their skills and experience are outstanding.

Are there any areas they could improve?

Nothing significant comes to mind, to be honest.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Don’t hesitate to contact them — that first phone call is always worth it. They’re very easy to talk to, and you can establish quickly the best way to work with them. The team is very honest about what they can and can’t do. However, don't worry about having too much detail upfront. Just get in there and be mindful of the skill set you’re after.

We asked Codeclusive to take our existing POC codebase, and to turn this into our vision for our App. This was a Flutter codebase targeting Android and iOS.

We spoke to multiple vendors, who were introduced to us through personal recommendation. Codeclusive stood out as being not only a great technical match, but also the sort of people we wanted to work closely with.

When Codeclusive started the project, they were asked to review our POC codebase to ascertain whether or not it could be used as a start point, or whether we would need to start again. We also provided them with UI designs, technical documentation around APIs and our development process documentation. Codeclusive decided to use our codebase as a start point, and have continued it's development ever since.

We currently have 2 full time Flutter developers, along with ad-hoc access to many other technical staff depending on how and when the project needs them.

The rate of delivery has been very impressive, and has allowed us to release our App in line with our business plan. This has allowed us to gather external feedback, which is very important for us as a start-up business.

We work using Scrum, so there is minimal need for any formal project management processes above the framework. We collaborate on each Sprint, receiving feedback on the contents of the backlog to ensure we develop the right thing, at the right time.

I am the Co-Founder and CEO of Thanks Mel, a platform to simplify the management and sharing of information and tasks relating to raising children and running a household.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

For what projects/services did your company hire Codeclusive, and what were your goals?

We set out to build a web based application for account creation and management of our users, that had a single code base for our mobile application to support both iOS and Android devices. The single code base was crucial, but so to was a consistent user experience between iOS and Android. It was imperative to our design that it would not matter if a user chose iOS over Android, and that we could efficiently update code only once.

SOLUTION

How did you select this vendor and what were the deciding factors?

We shortlisted 4 development companies from across the globe, Africa, Indonesia, Philippines, Australia and Poland. We had a well documented System architecture that was code agnostic, meaning we did not specify what code stack needed to be used.

We compared development cost, project management style, and of course the proposed code stack and had each company present their proposed solutions. We compared each presentation according to long term pro's and cons to ascertain the most attractive long term partner.

Codeclusive was one of the development partners we were shortlisting, we had engaged an agency for wireframing as well as UI design, and we had a number of discovery calls with both the agency and Codeclusive. This process enable both Codeclusive and Thanks Mel to unpack the complexity of the designs, and to understand how Codeclusive would go about building the proposed UX and UI designs.

This process was incredible, it was time consuming but allowed us to unpack the problems that could arise between UX/UI and build, and alter some of the UX to support the limitations of build given our constrained budgets. Thanks Mel was coded using PHP Laravel and Flutter front end in the AWS environment. We also set-up a Slack workspace to enable transparent communication, which has worked very well considering the time difference of our team.

Me and my co-founder, as well as our CTO were key contacts and we had weekly calls with our Codeclusive project manager; bi-weekly sprint planning meetings and when required feature run through meetings with the front and backend developers to explain in detail the new feature to be built. We used Jira for sprint planning and logging of bug fixes during testing.

Can you share any measurable outcomes of the project or general feedback about the deliverables?

We have launched the MVP of Thanks Mel on the App store. The app is stable, fast and performing exceptionally well. We have a 5star rating online. Our target market is busy mothers with little free time, this required us to build an intuitive, responsive and easy to use application.

Codeclusive has delivered this and we have had incredibly positive feedback on the app thus far, and look forward to continuing working with them on expanding the feature set. Many of our competitors app feedback online has been crashing, it was a key deliverable discussed at the outset of the project and Codeclusive has done an excellent job at delivering robust application.

We used Jira to manage tasks and plan sprints. During our weekly meetings with the Project manager we would discuss priorities and resources available to understand key milestone deliveries and any problems. We used Axure for all low-fidelity wireframes and Figma for UI, the front end developers would use Figma & Jira to comment directly on the designs and connect them to Jira tasks.

We used Slack for general all team communication. We tried to minimise email as much as possible, both Founders dislike email communication.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

The relationship with Codeclusive is more like an extension of our business than an outsourced partnership. The Codeclusive team has taken to the Thanks Mel project as if it were their own, living the projects functionality and asking questions to improve the experience. They have invested not just their time, but their hearts in bringing this project to life and have celebrated the milestones with us as an extension of our team.

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

The only minor thing I would say is that collectively we could have planned sprints a bit better as we did not often reach completion on sprints, mostly we over planned.

CEO of Simplifire SA, a company that builds tools to support contracting processes for businesses.

We had finished a successful prototype, and we wanted to build a useable Contract Negotiation platform on a limited budget.

SOLUTION

How did you select this vendor and what were the deciding factors?

They were recommended by the developer of the prototype, and they came across really well during the first presentation meeting. Afterwards they were prepared - free of charge - to present a build plan, fully costed. They seemed confident, competent and they had stripes from a major International company.

Describe the scope of work in detail, including the project steps, key deliverables, and technologies used.

Preparing MVP of Simplifire platform including contract negotiation, encryption of documents, multi-part signature, web-based editor integration, audit trail, PDF export, groups and partners feature. Project was divided in several internal steps with releasing the software to staging environment after which the public version of the software was released.

Technologies used in the project include PHP Laravel, jQuery, tinyMCE, Sodium for encryption, Google 2FA, Sentry.

At the start they were just starting so only had 2 partners and no staff. So from the beginning we have been working directly with the partners.

Can you share any measurable outcomes of the project or general feedback about the deliverables?

Very satisfied with the product. Within a few months we had an MVP that we could live with, and we are still trying to get it out in the market. The underlying technology we used (Laravel/PHP) is not very sophisticated, but it does the trick.

The partners are an excellent match. One is a straight-talking in-.depth coder. He has a panoramic view of technology and a seeming ability to cope with anything on the technical side.

The other is also a talented coder, but more the front-of-house guy - the communicator, the organiser, the relationship guy. We used the usual communication tools and had a seamless interaction.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

They are really professional. They listen, and they guide when you want them to without ever taking over or imposing a view. Very client centric, very methodical. Also super interesting and sensitive people - very well informed about the world, and a pleasure to have dinner with.

They have become genuine friends, and we keep trying to find excuses to go and see them in Poland.

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

We have worked directly with the partners - no idea how the bigger team will work together, but the signs are all positive. In our project (as in most) we were in a rush and we didn't give each other enough testing time.

Once or twice we had to pull releases because there were too many bugs. In future we will make sure that it's realistic on both sides. They will push themselves hard to deliver, but there are only 24 hours in the day.

I am Shrap's co-founder and CTO. We are a UK-based start-up that provides a fee-free, anonymous ecosystem for electronic micropayments. Our internal development team is supported by Codeclusive's specialist mobile developers.

Shrap's original mobile app was developed to facilitate a pilot and gather user feedback. Based on this a new app was designed to take the product to market, with several core components of the build outsourced to Codeclusive.

What were your goals for this project?

We needed a hybrid app for iOS and Android, with a seamless UI and lightning fast performance for instant B2C and P2P micropayments.

How did you select Codeclusive?

I had worked with Codeclusive on previous projects, which had given me full confidence in their ability to fully understand our objectives, contribute to the design process, and deliver robust technical solutions.

Describe the project in detail.

We had already built the core structure of the app when Codeclusive began to collaborate on the project. The first part of the engagement was to consult on the overall design, and work with Shrap's internal development team to develop the core structure. Subsequently, Codeclusive took ownership of specific components of the application, while continuing to offer their expertise to support us with overall application design.

Initially the internal team consisted of 3 developers and a project manager.

The app has been successfully launched on Android and iOS to a very positive reception. For an app that needed to be intuitive and appealing to a very broad audience - literally everyone from a child to their grandparents - we consider this a great achievement!

The level of seamless collaboration has been a standout feature in my experience working with Codeclusive.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

Codeclusive have been able to add value at every step of the journey. Their pragmatic, honest approach coupled with technical expertise is a potent force!

Are there any areas for improvement?

This hasn't been an issue due to the close level of collaboration throughout the project, but as the team grows we have asked for more focus to be given to scheduling and reporting.

Introduce your business and what you do there.

I’m the CTO and co-founder at Lekta AI. We’re creating a platform for building a new generation of conversational applications like chatbots, virtual agents, and virtual assistants. We’re targeting mostly enterprise businesses.

What challenge were you trying to address with Codeclusive?

We already had a functioning platform and set of applications that were being deployed for our customers. 

We needed to work on the next version of the framework, writing the full application stack and architecture from scratch in new technology. We needed to quickly increase the size of our team, so we started to look for help.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

We needed to finish the new version of the platform and framework so it would be ready for deployment. We were missing mostly integrations and some additional services for monitoring and testing.

The platform needed to be available through external channels like a call center, Facebook Messenger, or Google Assistant. At first, they worked on the integration layer that made it easier to add new connectors for new platforms.

After two or three months with Codeclusive, they started to contribute to the project itself (including internal logic, architecture, and AI algorithms that power the technology).

It’s hard to identify some particular components because they became part of the team, working in an agile way. Every two weeks, we would plan what needed to be done in the next sprint. 

We gave them access to the code base and the documentation that was available, but it was missing information. Whenever there was something missing, they took care of filling the blanks by talking with our team. 

We have a pretty diverse set of technologies. Most of the code was written in Clojure and Java. All of the machine learning parts and the associated tools were developed in Python. The frontend was written in JavaScript.

We worked with developers.

How did you come to work with Codeclusive?

We met them at a developer conference where one of the guys from Codeclusive was a co-organizer. There wasn’t an organized process of looking. When we realized we had this need, we met these guys.

After some technical evaluations by our developers, it seemed they were a good fit for us. Their experience was versatile, and so it seemed like they’d fit into our generalist approach to development. 

Also, they have a good understanding of the business side of the projects. That gave us the confidence that they would be able to organize their work when it was needed and make decisions that would match the way we work internally.

How much have you invested with them?

We invested between $60,000 and $70,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working together in February of 2019, and the engagement ended in September of 2019.

We had a pretty tough deadline to meet, and there were some gaps in the technology that we needed to fill. 

There was a well-defined end goal we needed to reach after a few months, and they were able to deliver that on time. They were able to deliver not only that, but also some extra features outside of the initial scope. 

It was even faster than we expected considering our architecture is pretty complicated and involves different technologies. They weren’t familiar with some of the technologies, but they took the time to learn it on their own. That was impressive. 

Our expectation was that they would need the first 2-3 months to learn everything before they could start contributing to the code base. But, they learned on the go and started to contribute much sooner than that.

How did Codeclusive perform from a project management standpoint?

They exceeded our expectations. It was a difficult task, but they were able to deliver everything needed on time.

We work in Scrum with self-organized teams, and there isn’t a project manager. They work with our internal product owner, designers, and team leads.

Previously, all the development happened internally and locally. We didn’t have all the documentation that was needed. So, they took care of generating all the documentation and specifications that were needed for their own work. But, this also benefitted our company. 

We changed some of the internal processes based on our cooperation with them. The partnership has had a lasting effect even though we’re no longer working with them. It was an improvement for the whole organization.

We barely used email. Most of the communication happened via Slack, GitLab, Google Hangouts, and Jira. We used Google Docs for some documentation and additional materials.  

What did you find most impressive about them?

They were able to learn new, unique technology that isn’t so popular. They quickly understood all of the business ideas, requirements, and visions of our company. 

They helped us shape and organize all of our development processes. They also provided their own experience and expertise to help us organize our work with external contractors. We were able to smoothly transition into a new model of cooperation and development.

Are there any areas they could improve?

I was happy with the cooperation.

It’s beneficial to allow them to have more influence and impact on the project. It will bring value to any company.

How did you select this vendor and what were the deciding factors?

Although we made formal price inquiry to several developers, we strongly based on our CTO previous experiences with Codeclusive.

We provided Codeclusive with our backend docs, sigma mockup and have several workshops to explain our business needs. The project was divided into work packages. The first one was backend integration and interface MVP, than rest of the features of pricer.pl.
