Our previous vendor canceled our cooperation abruptly, which put us in a difficult position, as we had existing commitments to our clients and participation in an upcoming expo. We needed Codebooq to step in and deliver to ensure we met our obligations smoothly. The development and the improvement of our mobile and web application were needed. Codebooq's involvement covered the entire spectrum of our software development needs. 

They took charge of developing mobile apps (iOS and Android) for users to control plant support systems and visualize environment parameters. They created a web app for user management and plant-related history. Their team also handled embedded development on the ESP32 board to activate pumps and collect sensor data. Codebooq established the supporting infrastructure from scratch, including databases and IoT hubs.

We are able to successfully demonstrate our product's functionalities at a conference and deliver the solution to our first clients within the required timeframe.

The project team consisted of four full-stack developers, with two backend developers, one frontend developer, and one mobile developer. The items were deliverd on time. The project is still ongoing. We are planning for a second iteration to further improve the product. When faced with multiple options, they presented various scenarios and helped us make informed decisions that best fit our business needs.

They are a one-stop-shop for all development aspects - web, mobile, embedded, and infrastructure. They are proactive in anticipating and addressing potential business challenges, like GDPR compliance and connectivity issues.

Are there any areas for improvement or something Codebooq could have done differently?

Perhaps defining the timelines a bit more accurately - although there were plenty of feature requests and changes mid-project that were unexpected from both sides.

I’m the owner and one of the managing directors of a software development company. Our clients are mainly in manufacturing, with some startup clients in niche sectors.

Codebooq provides custom software development services. We present different features to them, and they give an estimated timeline before building it for us. We give them that feature, or change it for another one, depending on the length of time required in accordance with the project timeline.  It is a Legacy application that is being updated through the current version of .NET.

We have integrated a full-time, and a part-time, developer into our team.

We began working together in January 2021, and it’s ongoing.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

Codebooq's developers are experienced and have strong business knowledge. They understand the big picture and the client’s needs. They aren’t the typical tech people we’ve experienced in the past. I am generally satisfied with them so far.

How did Codebooq perform from a project management standpoint?

We work in Agile Scrum. Our teams have daily and bi-weekly meetings to discuss progress, as well as needed improvements on processes, communication, etc. They are flexible, and have delivered within estimated timeframes. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

They are knowledgeable about programming. Their code is also readable, and scalable. 

Are there any areas they could improve?

There were some small communication issues. We could have had more meetings during the onboarding phase with a focus on internal processes.

We have also had some alignment issues. On our side, we could’ve given more information, but they also could have reached out to let us know they needed it. 

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Be proactive, ask a lot of questions about how they work. Set up processes for the project at the beginning, and set up frequent meetings during the project.

One of the most impressive aspects of Codebooq was their technical expertise and ability to write clear, scalable code. In particular, their skills in working with legacy code were notable. They were able to quickly understand and adapt to our existing codebase, making improvements and updates as needed.

Their proficiency in this area has been crucial to the success of our project.

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

One area where Codebooq could potentially improve is in their willingness to work with and adapt to existing legacy systems. While the upgrades and rewrites that were implemented may bring benefits in the long term, the cost and time involved in these updates were significant.

In the future, it may be helpful to consider a more flexible approach to working with legacy systems, while still ensuring the overall quality and scalability of the code.
