We had a lot of technical debt. Our production site was just in developer mode. So with CodeAstrum we finished all the main project needs and tasks. On the next step we had a lot of new features to integrate. Delivered them on sprints basis without any difficulties or failed deadlines.

I hired codeAtrum to build a website from scratch for my brand using Magento 2 that would integrate with my Amazon store and provide additional sources of sales

SOLUTION

How did you select this vendor and what were the deciding factors?

I found codeAstrum based on referral from other developers, and a deciding factor for me was their deep experience with e-commerce in general and Magento 2 in particular. They were primary developers for the largest luxury retailer in Ukraine https//helen-marlen.com/, so it was easy for me to decide.

They developed a full website from scratch, and here are the main steps:

1.  They used AWS, and as the owner I worked expensively with them to set it up.
2. Since they are the experts in Magneto 2 and PHP based e-commerce solutions in general, that's what they used for my website. They took a lead on that, and I did not need to "hold their hand" on everything.
3. For the frontend of the website, they suggested to buy an existing theme from Evanto Market, and after I made my selection, they did all the integrations with backend without my involvement.
4. codeAstrum also helped me integrate my Amazon Seller Central account with my website and test it, so I could tell that they stand behind their work.

How many people from the vendor's team worked with you, and what were their positions?

I worked directly with the principal/owner Max Levin (who was very easy to deal with and spoke excellent English), and then he involved other people on as needed basis (such as AWS admin), but he took all of the upon himself I had him as a primary contact (which is what I wanted, since I didn't want to deal with multiple project managers, etc).

Can you share any measurable outcomes of the project or general feedback about the deliverables?

I did not have any non-Amazon sales before, so overall sales went up;; by 15% in the first 2 months, but I am expecting bigger increase in the future. But what was even more important for me was that I can now manage my business from my website (where I can see Amazon and non-Amazon sales). Since Amazon seller central is not a very user friendly, having a central location, where I can see everything was very important to me!

We communicated on as needed basis (sometimes everyday, and sometimes several times a week), but they were very responsive to my questions, and overall I knew that I hired them, so that they tell me what to do, and not the other way around. We used GitLab for project management, and Google chat for additional communications.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

1. They truly are experts in their field, and they are very responsive to questions even after the project is over. 2. I enjoyed dealing with Principal, what was very hands on and there was 0 beaurocracy. 3. Even though codeAstrum is used to working with large clients, they found a custom solution for a smaller client like myself.

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

One area where I could have used additional help is selecting the front end theme for the site, and various graphic elements for a custom site. Right now it is not their core focus, but it would be nice to give a customer more help to narrow down the options.

Overall, their team did an outstanding job. They did everything that we needed. The website works well, and our business grows every year.

Our clients saw the speed of our site and that we put some good features on it. Since 2017, our sales have grown by 40%.

We’re no longer working with them because of the cost to work with such a professional team. We now have three internal people working within our company.

We had a lot of communication. We used email and Slack, and we’re always in contact. Each week, we had one live meeting. They worked in a scrum methodology.

They’re a great team with good communication. The owners of our company are difficult people. You have to be professional to communicate with them and to understand what they want. The team proposes different ways for us to choose from.
