We engaged Code Encoders to build AGAPE, a secure authentication system for verifying member identity through NFC cards and fingerprint scanning. The app runs on Chainway NFC-enabled handheld devices and was built with Flutter on the front end and Firebase (Firestore, Cloud Functions, Storage) on the backend. The scope covered the full system: user roles and permissions (Main Admin, Admin, Leader, User), company and facility management, member profiles with photo and fingerprint data, NFC card issuance with expiry and activation control, and a verification engine that lets field staff confirm identity using either NFC or fingerprint on the spot. Key deliverables included: - Role-based access control with distinct permission levels for admins and field staff - Company and facility management modules, including facility-level logging - ⁠Member management with NFC card assignment and fingerprint enrollment - ⁠A verification flow that validates card/fingerprint, member status, card expiry, and facility association before confirming a match - ⁠Detailed verification logs per facility, filterable by date, member, facility, and verifying user - ⁠Offline support through Firestore local caching, so verification keeps working in low-connectivity environments - ⁠Encoded/hashed fingerprint storage for data security The result is a reliable, field-ready verification system that gives our team accurate recordkeeping and full control over who can access and verify members at each facility.

What were the measurable outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

Since going live, the system has streamlined member verification across our facilities, replacing manual/paper-based checks with instant NFC and fingerprint confirmation. Key outcomes include: 
- Verification time per member dropped to just a few seconds per check, compared to manual processes previously 
- ⁠Zero unauthorized verifications since launch, thanks to strict validation of card status, expiry, and member activation before any match is confirmed 
- ⁠Full audit trail now available for every verification event, searchable by date, facility, member, and staff, which has made compliance reporting much faster 
- ⁠Continued uptime during connectivity issues, since the app keeps working offline and syncs automatically once reconnected 
- ⁠Clear separation of admin and field-staff permissions, which reduced data entry errors and unauthorized changes to member/company records Overall, the system gave us the accuracy, speed, and accountability we needed for identity verification across multiple facilities.

The team managed the project professionally from start to finish. They took time upfront to understand our operational requirements, then translated that into a clear technical plan covering user roles, facility structure, and the verification workflow. Communication was consistent throughout, with regular updates on progress and any blockers. Deliverables were completed on schedule, and when we requested changes or had new requirements along the way, they responded quickly and adjusted without pushing back or causing delays. They were also proactive in flagging technical considerations we hadn't thought of, like offline functionality and card expiry handling, which showed they understood the real-world environment the app would run in, not just the spec on paper. Overall, they were responsive, easy to communicate with, and reliable in hitting deadlines.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

What stood out most was how deeply they understood our actual use case rather than just building to a spec. Security systems like this can't afford errors, and they clearly thought through edge cases we hadn't even raised, like handling expired cards, inactive members, and verification in low-connectivity environments, without us having to ask. They also moved fast without cutting corners. Despite the technical complexity of integrating NFC hardware, fingerprint scanning, and offline sync into one seamless flow, the final product felt polished and reliable rather than rushed. Beyond the technical execution, what really set them apart was their ownership of the project. It didn't feel like we were just another client ticket, it felt like they cared about getting this right for our specific environment.

Are there any areas for improvement or something Code Encoders could have done differently?

Honestly, there isn't much to point to. If anything, more frequent check-ins during the early planning stage would have helped us align on scope even faster, though this had minimal impact on the overall timeline. Some more detailed documentation on the admin-side features would also be a nice addition for our internal team's reference going forward. Overall, these are minor points and didn't affect our satisfaction with the final product or the team's performance.
