Climbing Trees took our fairly neglected and broken Ads campaigns, completely reworked them to make them focussed and coherent. The objectives were and still are to generate a significant return and this they are doing very well.

We agreed a formula for the return on investment allowing a little time for their work to achieve our goals, which they did surprisingly quickly.

Climbing Trees is extremely responsive - in the first instance they described how they would set-up the Ads campaigns, how they would target and they spent a good dal of time looking at our site and picking up our tone of voice. They gave us a timeframe for the set-up which was met and as the project is open-ended, they continue to clearly indicate what is being planned (and why) and then meeting this.

We have been looking at FB/IG Commerce and we were delighted that Climbing Trees was willing to help us get this set-up using their in-house knowledge of these tricky platforms. On this and on anything else we've asked for within a sensible remit they have always shown themselves to be more than happy to help us out.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

Most Ads agencies are focussed on keeping the client by promising amazing performance just around the corner. Not so with Climbing Trees which retains its clients (us at least) through clear communication and impressive performance. No nagging about signing up for another retained period but rather a mutual planning session once in a while to look at opportunities there may be that we have not yet looked at.

They're B-Corp which is the path on which we are headed and as such, Climbing Trees is a company with high ethics all around.

Nothing that I can think of.

The project is still ongoing but they've already helped us better keep track of how people are engaging with our website and improving our search ads.

We've been using Google's AdGrant for several years and had started to reach a limit of in-house knowledge and wanted to take it to the next level. At the same time we wanted to expand our organic reach to our website and improve the tracking/conversion data we were seeing.

How did you select this vendor and what were the deciding factors?

We spoke with several agencies who work in the field and felt that they were a knowledgeable and very personable group. They were very honest and open about things that we could achieve and other things that might not be possible.

Developing our AdGrants account so that we were reaching the full spend for the grant and then starting to optimise so we were starting to make the most of our money. Conversion tracking was set up across the site for a number of key metrics. We also undertook an SEO project where Climbing Trees supported with fixing errors, suggesting content improvements and upskilling our team.

Can you share any measurable outcomes of the project or general feedback about the deliverables?

Our organic search traffic has increased significantly by around 40%. Our AdGrants account consistently hits the full spend and conversion tracking is now fully in place and we're seeing 10% average increase in conversions per month.

We held regular monthly meetings for each side to share feedback, updates and next steps. We kept in regular contact via email and they have been very quick in their response times. A monthly report gets sent through which then forms a part of the digital report for Senior Management.

They were incredibly professional but at the same time very friendly and open. They really want to help and are very forthcoming with new options and ideas.

We hired Climbing Trees as an agency that would help us scale up the campaigns and roll them out across several countries across Europe effectively.

The agency was referred by a previous employee of ACCO.

The agency has helped us with several projects across paid digital media and SEO. The main focus was on search campaigns across 17 markets in EMEA, but we also did quite a lot on other channels, including paid social, YouTube and Microsoft Audience Network.

The main product categories that we promoted included paper shredding, ergonomics&wellness, air purification and filing.

We had an account director, a PPC specialist, an SEO specialist, data specialist. We also always had the agency's owner available for a phone call, but we never had to use it

Can you share any measurable outcomes of the project or general feedback about the deliverables?

I cannot be too specific, but Climbing Trees' work has allowed us to concentrate on numerous other things to do internally. Suffice to say, CT's work has contributed to our conversion rate almost tripling in 3 years. There is finally a repeatable, consistent process to our approach to paid digital media.

They're a great agency that gives their clients a lot of attention. They are quick and pro-active in solving any problems. We have been using tracking tools via Google Sheets.

They are very flexible in terms of communication - some smaller regions of EMEA for example just had weekly reports in Excel and monthly calls, while bigger ones also had GDS dashboards and initial weekly optimisation calls (all requested by us and CT were very accommodating).

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

Their client-first approach. I've worked in an agency before and know how hard it is for the client to always feel like they're their priority - never felt that way from Climbing Trees, we were always treated really well.

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

Give Charlie a raise! Also, sometimes it'd be good if they could give us more reason to spend the money with them with some potential campaign suggestions (e.g. 'hey client, we see a huge growing trend for searches related to XYZ, don't you sell XYZ too? Might be a good idea to put some spend behind it')

I’m the head of digital marketing for Staysure Group, a UK travel insurance company with multiple brands and websites.

What challenge were you trying to address with Climbing Trees?

They were the agency already employed by a company that we purchased, and we and we kept them on to help us with our new brand’s SEO.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Climbing Trees helps us with SEO, and we’ve worked closely with them on keyword research. Most of the traffic in our market is around travel insurance and holiday insurance, so the goal has been to get our brand in the top 10 of those keywords’ search results. The team focuses on building the site’s content, outreach, and site authority. 

First, we focused on long-tail keywords and the medical side of insurance. Then, seeing how those keywords performed, we shifted to focus on the main search terms in the industry. Regarding web content and structural changes, the team makes recommendations, and our internal developers and content creators make changes to the site. We have a dedicated content team that produces material for our site, writing commercial content and blog posts based on Climbing Trees’ advice.

What is the team composition?

I work with the owners, plus Josh (Account Manager) and Aj (SEO Account Manager). The latter works around the content and outreach approach. 

How did you come to work with Climbing Trees?

When we acquired our new company, climbing Trees was already their SEO agency. We had another agency working with one of our other brands, so we went through a comparison process. We were impressed with Climbing Trees’ team; they were knowledgeable, open to listening to what we wanted, and very much about collaboration. We decided to continue working with them off the back of that analysis. 

How much have you invested with them?

We’ve spent around £300,000–£350,000 (approximately $376,000–$439,000 USD).

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working with them in August 2017, and the engagement is ongoing.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

When we started working with Climbing Trees, our brand wasn’t in the top 50 results for travel insurance; currently, we’re in the top 10 search results. Although things move around daily, we broke into the first page for travel insurance at the beginning of 2022. This has opened the floodgates for us, particularly with the timing of the travel market opening up, and it has put us in a great position to capitalize. 

Although they’re a relatively small agency, Climbing Trees wasn’t off by working with a big group like ours and going against very big companies. Instead, they’ve adapted to meet the challenge of positioning our brand. Now, the company we acquired is about ten times bigger, and that’s in no small part due to partners like Climbing Trees that have been able to grow with us. They took our strategy and approach and ran with it, getting us on the first page for our sector’s most important search term.

How did Climbing Trees perform from a project management standpoint?

They stay on budget and deliver in line with our expectations. We haven’t had anything slip from a project perspective; their research and content recommendations have all hit the agreed-upon timeframes. We communicate through email updates. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

I’m impressed with Climbing Trees’ client management. Their ability to take feedback and adapt to meet our needs has been absolutely exceptional. 

Are there any areas they could improve?

I don’t have constructive feedback. They should keep up the good work; we believe in them and the work they’ve done for us, and we’re looking forward to seeing them continue to grow as an agency.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

My advice is to be very open and explain exactly what you’re looking for. The more information you give them, the better. Climbing Trees is very good at coming up with ideas and suggestions and providing added value pieces if you lay things out for them.

We found Climbing Trees through peer referral. They took a very intelligent, strategic and methodical approach. They showed lots of evidence to demonstrate their understanding of this complex product and strategic ways to attract buyers when the category is unknown.

We had concerns because of a previous SEO and Paid company we'd engaged who c onstantly let us down. Additionally the previous company had kept all paid advertising under their accounts which they wouldn't share with us so all of the learnings from all of the campaigns was lost when we moved away from them.

What did you find most impressive about them?
