In the beginning, it took some time for the team to fully adapt to the mindset and best practices of a fully serverless architecture on AWS. However, they were open to feedback, learned quickly, and are now confidently building within that environment.

Implement a web portal using React as specified by UX designers including the supporting back-end services using Go as the development language and AWS for infrastructure services. The team from Cleverpine are fully integrated with the in-house development team and take active part in the planning and specification phases all the way through to quality control.

This is not an engagement where delivery milestones are defined. We have a team of developers working together to build out a solution. Having the CleverPine team within an hour's timezone difference of the majority of the team is a great help, and they are always available during our working hours. The wider delivery management is excellent. 

Regular updates and communication with the senior management of CleverPine is in place and we are confident that should an issue arise, it would be responded to promptly and professionally. Of particular note is the flexibility of the team. When we needed some extra short-term support for a specific project, CleverPine were able to assign us people with the skills needed in order to get that project launched.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

The quality and motivation of the engineering team as well as the buy-in and support from the more senior management team lends great confidence that the work will be done well and efficiently. CleverPine's people really do contribute significant expertise, best practice and excellence. Their commitment and level of engagement are much higher than that of other service providers that I have used in the past.

The initial phase concentrated on the development and modernization of iuvo SAVE, an integral part of our legacy system. This included a comprehensive plan for system modernization and architecture development. Subsequently, we expanded the scope to include the development of a B2B operations. Technologies leveraged by CleverPine included React, Java microservices, REST API, Azure DevOps, and AWS cloud services.

What were the measurable outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

The crowning achievement was the development of our platform, iuvoSAVE, which won an award for Innovative product at the B2B Media Awards 2022 and now boasts more than 40,000 active investors. Furthermore, the project's outcomes included the integration of new functionalities that enhanced the user experience and facilitated efficient B2B management.

The project followed an agile methodology with bi-weekly sprints and post-sprint demos. Jira and GitHub were the primary tools for tracking progress. Quarterly, we did project scoping and goal setting. The daily touchpoints were maintained with our project manager through online meetings, phone calls, and in-person visits to our office.

With CleverPine, we benefit from a comprehensive, product-focused team, rather than merely gaining access to on-demand developers. The team is completely cross functional, including, but not limited to front-end and back-end developers, quality assurance experts, and scrum master, which have invested time in understanding our unique business needs, engaging directly with our project manager, and seamlessly lead the entire process.

Are there any areas for improvement or something CleverPine could have done differently?

As one of their pioneering clients for their 'product teams as a service' offering, we encountered a few hiccups and miscommunication. However, these issues were resolved by the end of our engagement, resulting in a smoother workflow.

I am the Chief Product Owner of SmartIT. The company main focus is development of complex and modern technological solutions for the financial services sector. We have teams in Bulgaria, Germany and Ukraine.

In 2021 we wanted to boost the development of our credit management platform in order to deliver several functional modules in parallel. We did not have enough capacity to do it with our own teams and that is why we started searching for potential partners to help us achieve the goal in a timely, efficient and sustainable manner.

Describe the scope of work in detail, including the project steps, key deliverables, and technologies used.

The scope of the project included two functional modules of the credit management system:

1. Person Data Module for creating and managing client profiles (individual and legal entities) and
2. Financial Module which was mainly focused on managing accounts, transfers, financial operations, exchange rates, expense and revenue operations, reporting, etc.

Initially we started with discovery phase in order to make sure that the business process is well understood and business needs are clear enough. Also we agreed on the technologies to be used and the security standards that should be met. Then we received a solution proposal and project timeline.

A detailed plan for all needed functionalities were prepared and we started the first sprint. Each sprint was with 2 weeks periodicity. After each sprint there was a demo and a feedback session. The last sprint was dedicated to bug fixing, stabilization of the versions and preparation for completion of the scope.

Can you share any measurable outcomes of the project or general feedback about the deliverables?

The project was progressing mainly on time. When getting deep in details it turned out that we will need to extend the time line with a few more sprints but that was almost expected. Generally we did not have major delays in the execution.

The project management was great. We had a team dedicated only to our project which made it easier to focus on the goal and dive deep in the scope and the expected results. We had regular refinements and demo sessions. The team agreed to use our Jira/Confluence and it was very easy for us to monitor the process of development and test. Each time we needed more information and details or advice how to handle any challenge the team was ready to help and assist.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

The company is very open to close communication and devotion to the common goal. The team is willing to actively participate in the process of designing the solution and they always have adequate proposition for making the functionalities in a better way.

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

May be the only thing that we could have done in a better way was to plan more precisely the needed time for bug fixing and final packing of the solution - it turned out that the last step of the project is very time consuming. A final demo of the whole solution should be considered as well.

We engaged CleverPine for the end-to-end development and delivery of a custom mobile application for our retail brand, SOpharmacy. The app aims to enhance customer value by improving the overall experience as well as foster customer loyalty so as to become SOpharmacy’s preferred e-commerce channel.  

Our primary goal is to  deliver a seamless and immersive omnichannel experience by creating an intuitive and responsive mobile application, keeping pace with our customers’ dynamic lifestyles and needs. CleverPine undertook end-to-end development and delivery of the mobile applications for iOS and Android OS. Together with their team we upgraded the initial business requirements to end with a full technical analysis ready for the development phase. 

The technical implementation comprised of native development of key functionalities, along with web-view implementation of remaining functionalities. The project was executed in 2-week sprints following the Scrum methodology. Regular communication channels like daily stand-ups to remove blockers, weekly steering meetings for milestone checks, risk identification, and mitigation strategy, and monthly demos were used to ensure alignment with our business requirements.

What were the measurable outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

• Despite a tight schedule of the project execution, we managed to launch successfully, becoming the first pharmacy to introduce such an app in the Bulgarian market. 
• Within the first six months post-launch, we  achieved a  ratings of 4.6 Stars on the App Store and 4.267 Stars on the Google Play Store.

The project was complex due to its hybrid nature (native + web-view development), thus no matter there were dependencies on other platforms and stakeholders, CleverPine showcased a deep understanding of our challenges and a commitment to finding the most sustainable approach.

Are there any areas for improvement or something CleverPine could have done differently?

While CleverPine excelled in most areas, it would have been advantageous to receive structured technical documentation of the SOpharmacy mobile applications, middleware and video guides introducing key functionalities so to serve as tutorials for the extended internal team. However, this in no way undermined their overall performance, and we look forward to improving our collaboration in the future.
