What challenge were you trying to address with Ciphers Digital?

Ciphers Digital used to handle all of my online marketing needs. It was a competitive market — it’s incredibly competitive now, which is why I got out of it — so I needed support cutting through all the noise and focus on lead generation. We didn’t care what source the leads came from, as long as it was the most cost-effective way to get them.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Mike (CEO) built and managed our WordPress website and handled all of our SEO work, with a bit of PPC, as well. We offered a three-day trial, which was one of our biggest performers, so they worked to get us ranking on pages for anything related to gyms and fitness.

He mainly focused on our Google presence. Part of the services included writing articles, getting linkbacks from established companies, and publishing content. 

What is the team composition?

I dealt directly with Mike, so I’m not sure how many people he had working with him. 

How did you come to work with Cipher Digital?

Mike was a member of our clubs and we talked one day about his services, which sounded good. He put together a proposal for me and we gave him a shot. He performed as he promised he would, so we kept working together. 

How much have you invested with them?

The cost began to build up but, toward the end, we were spending close to $10,000 per month. 

What is the status of this engagement?

I’d estimate we worked together between June 2011–June 2016, when I sold the company.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

We went from generating 50–100 leads per month to generating anywhere from 300–600 leads in that same timeframe, which was astronomical for each of my four locations. It was our main source of leads to our facilities. They had a significant impact. In any industry, the number of leads they produced for us was staggering. 

How did Cipher Digital perform from a project management standpoint?

I didn’t go into the details with them too heavily, since my interest was the end-results. They filled me in on what they were doing and how they were doing it, but they worked independently and managed the efforts. We tracked every lead, our closing ratio, and all relevant information so we could tell if leads were poor quality or high quality. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

The results really distinguished them from other providers, which is what you want from someone in marketing. At the end of the day, the only thing that mattered was getting a conversion into a lead, which they delivered.

I’d tried other marketing companies and they never generated lead numbers, even if we produced impressions or other metrics. He was our best source of leads and where we spent the most of our money. At the time, the number of leads they produced was really impressive and was exactly what I needed them to do. 

Are there any areas they could improve?

No, there’s nothing they could have really improved — I don’t know if it would have been possible for them to get even more leads for us. 

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

The biggest aspect is tracking everything. Communicate with them on a regular basis, show them where you are and where you want to be. Let them know if you’re in a good or bad position, and that’s how you’ll make the most out of the relationship.

What challenge were you trying to address with Ciphers Digital?

Our website was very outdated. Also, our business model for the last 30 years was very word-of-mouth. We reached out to Ciphers Digital to build a new website and create an SEO campaign to bring in business from new sources.

What was the scope of their involvement?

They built a new WordPress site through GoDaddy from scratch. They fine-tuned our data that was out on the internet. Google had incorrect addresses and information. There really wasn’t a whole lot of quality data out there.

They did an SEO campaign that focused on organic traffic. They also helped us with web content, videos, and bios. We trained them a bit on our industry specific knowledge so they could help develop legal content, specifically.

I worked with Mike (Digital Marketing Executive), a media specialist, and an editor.  

How did you come to work with Ciphers Digital?

I met one of Mike’s partners through a networking group. I interviewed several companies and most weren’t willing to do both our site and SEO. After taking with Mike, I found he had a lot of success with other businesses, which led me to choose him over the other competitors.

How much have you invested with them?

We spent $25,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working together in June 2020, and our site went live in August 2020.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

The SEO program drew in a lot of traffic, even though we only ran it for three months. I never got any leads from my old website. Withing a month, we closed four new plans from out-of-state. We’ve probably gotten five calls every week, and two quality leads from those.

I trusted Mike and he knew a lot of things that don’t translate to our industry. From what I can tell, they did a bang-up job because they got a lot of good leads.

How did Ciphers Digital perform from a project management standpoint?

They sent me reports every two weeks. Every other week, we had scheduled meetings to go through the things Mike was working on. He had a nice presentation to help us understand the SEO campaign.

Every time he wanted to do something new or different, he’d lay it all out for us in a nice presentation to make sure we understood the value he’s providing behind the scenes.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Mike is great. Unlike a lot of other vendors, he’s constantly trying to come up with new ideas and changes to the site, even though it’s already been developed. He’s very proactive and very excited about what he does. He truly believes that SEO can convert and drive more revenue for our company.

Are there any areas they could improve?

They didn’t know a lot of our legal jargon, but that’s understandable. That being said, they went above and beyond to help us develop the legal content on the site once they were up to speed.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

My advice is to have an idea of what you want your site to do for you. Fully understand what the SEO is going to bring to the table. Our reservations to do PPC and Google Ads shot us in the foot because we didn’t know enough about it. If you’re going to work with them, fully understand what they’ll be doing and what their time commitment is going to be.
