I searched for agencies on various websites and narrowed down to a longlist that I spoke to over the phone, then a shortlist that I asked follow up questions to. Ease of communication, adaptability, proven performance and price (as our DTC business is small and budget limited currently) were deciding factors.

Initial set up of 15 flow emails, then moving to a cadence of 15 emails monthly, some campaign, some additional flows. Translating our goals for email into a strategy and plan to implement. Using Klaviyo.

The results have been great so far, doubling our revenue attributed to email.

Nothing beyond improving the efficiency of how we work together which is to be expected with any new agency or employee and is an ongoing process.

I’m the head of marketing and B2C business of a cooking kit company. Our product encourages kids to learn about the culture and cuisine of different countries around the world. We have limited edition boxes and a subscription-based model for 3–12 months — we also have an option for single-purchase products as well.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Budai Media and our company worked together to create SMS campaigns that were in conjunction with our email marketing campaigns, and digital marketing ads — which was mostly done on Facebook at the time. They worked with us on very specific campaigns such as a Mother’s Day promotion, and helped us write and schedule content to reach out to new audiences and markets through SMS texting. 

We worked on a schedule of about 3–4 SMS communications a month, which were all approved and scheduled in advance. They also worked with us if we had any promotions that came up last minute, such as running discount codes or announcing limited edition boxes.

Budai also worked with us to create segmented audiences using Klaviyo, and made sure there was approval for all copies before sending out any communications to our audiences. Additionally, from time to time, we would tweak segmented audiences in order to engage new customers.

Our digital marketing agency who worked with Budai in the past, recommended their services to us when we were looking to expand out of our email and marketing campaigns.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

We worked with an account manager who would show us the exact number of clicks and sales conversions we got from each specific campaign, and we achieved great results which we were really happy with. Whatever we anticipated and expected, Budai Media’s work was better than what we’ve been doing before. We were really impressed with the effort they put in and their manner of working in the process — it contributed to the overall monthly sales.

How did Budai Media perform from a project management standpoint?

Budai was always on time with their deliverables. They always asked very poignant questions, and they were very easy to communicate with despite the time difference. Slack was our primary form of communication, and whenever we had phone calls, we used Zoom — we also communicated through email as well.

What did you find most impressive about them?

We were impressed with their willingness to be collaborative partners with us, and not just take directions from us or tell us what to do. It was a very measured and balanced partnership in the sense that we all would come to the table and share ideas, and figure out the best path forward.

Are there any areas they could improve?

Nothing in particular, as the job we tasked them with was definitely in their wheelhouse. I felt very confident in everything that they did for us, so there’s nothing negative in terms of feedback that I could share.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

I think they’re a great agency and partner for anyone who needs an introduction to email and SMS campaigns. They were really helpful in teaching us what we needed to do, so for anyone who’s just starting out with that type of partner agency, that’s exactly how I would promote and recommend them.

Budai Media's work process and strategies are doing pretty much fine for our customers. We will keep sending more e-commerce customers to them because we know they are doing an excellent job for us.

When an e-commerce business is at the beginning stage, it might not be worth it with a small email list. If their list is over 20,000 or 30,000 people, they can start working with an agency.

They work very closely with their clients, so we could be fairly hands-off. I highly recommend Budai Media to those companies which are result-oriented and don’t want to get lost in the details.

Probably their pricing is a bit high but they did a lot of work for us.

Budai Media's team has excellent project management; we have monthly meetings to discuss our marketing campaigns. We typically communicate through Skype and email.

Budai Media's personal approach really sets them apart. Their team is also very transparent about their work — I understand and am involved in every aspect of the project. 

When I provide feedback because a campaign isn't working, they solve the problem quickly. They also ensure that feedback is reflected in the final products.
